I had the same problem.
I have installed the NVidia drivers and can only select my desired screen
resolution through the nVidia settings app. Then it will be available in the
display properties app.
I think there is a conflict between these two apps and that may be a part of
the problem.

I just played around a bit. No matter if I enable or disable wobbling or
cube (in desktop-effects), no matter if I use d-e or terminal (with
--indirect-rendering) to start compiz, it's totally nondeterministic:

I've just discovered that xvinfo does this too (though it worked before
so it should be a new but similar issue). From Xorg.log:

Ok, so a strange thing happened. It turned out that I hadn't checked the
integrity of the discs (it was late!). The DVD was fine, but still hung at the
same place; the CD had an error on it so I burned a new copy. This also stopped
at the same series of error messages. I had to split the screen

True. I believe this may be planned for the Amarok 2.0 release, using
Qt4.0 and KDE4. I remember seeing this bug before, but I can't find it
on either launchpad.net or bugs.kde.org
I think it's on the minds of the developers, though.

Rimas if it doesnt work there is a problem ubuntu doesnt have colorzilla
in repos because we dont support it. i know there was major issues with
it upstream i dont know where they have gotten with it. we can not

The -1 and -2 is written in a alsa-base config file (I think so) becouse it's
not used for normal soundcards but only tv cards I think - but I'm not sure.
I'm now not under my system but I will post my results with blacklisting soon.

Just to clarify: in my previous comment I really meant pressing the volume keys
(they have an indication + or - on my keyboard), I did NOT mean + or - keys on
the numpad of the keyboard and the focus is NOT on the slider. Sorry for the
possible confusion.
