After pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace the desktop clears to just the
background image. Occasional hard-disk activity (judging by LED
flashes), Caps-Lock, Scroll-Lock, Num-Lock don't respond - LEDs don't
toggle, cannot switch to virtual console using Ctl+Alt+F1

using the unpatched server (bug 126425). Changing from the old 6.6.193
to the new 6.7.191 driver and nothing else causes compiz to be dead

Had a reply from Gigabyte - yes, it *is* a BIOS bug, and the BIOS upgrade fixes
it. The kernel bug was rejected as invalid (because it's a BIOS problem, not a
kernel problem).
I'll give full details below, because this wasn't quite straightfoward to fix,
and hopefully it will help someone else.
with a Gutsy (tribe4) fresh install :
- I open a web page needing flash plugin (I never installed any flash plugin
since the installation)
- Firefox give me the choice between Adobe flash plugin (non free) and Gnash
- I tick Gnash and Apply
-Then Nothing happend ... Firefox search and search

MOTUs probably wouldn't have to do too much work to make this happen...
Also, I second (third?) the motion, as screenlets + Compiz makes for

This is what I am experiencing with the latest updates in Kubuntu. I
have translucency enable which again make use of OpenGL functionality I
believe. glxgears works fine and other OpenGL applications. I didn't try
any games since I am not much in to that. I tried installing compiz for
KDE.
If I make the last line default:= $(MAKE) -C $(KDIR) SUBDIRS=$(PWD)
modules I get an error make: *** No targets. Stop.

I can reproduce on gutsy.
Installing azureus_2.5.0.0repack1-0ubuntu1.1~proposed1 fixes this
problem on gutsy also. I have tested the proposed package continuously
for the last two months and the crash has not recurred (and azureus has
been shut down unsafely *many* times).

The system-wide sound settings *should* be read from
/etc/sound/events/gnome-2.soundlist, but Gutsy Tribe-5 isn't accessing
that file.
With an inotify watch on the file in a virtual terminal prior to log-in:

When ever trying to load/update number of web sites one or more
konqueror browser windows reports an error. I'm not sure if this happens
based on order opened, size of page or just randomly.

I'm hoping the desktop team will give this a high priority, because
although it is only an aural cosmetic touch, I think the Ubuntu brand
recognition is very much tied to the distinctive login sounds.
Unless The Gnome developers upstream deal with it quickly, there are 2
options:

I have the same problem. My problem affects large external hard drives
(Western Digital 200GB, Maxtor OneTouch III TB). Small devices like
flash drives work for me most of the time. Unloading ehci_hcd always

because I think the problem resides in some kind of dvi-ps conversion
package.
The problem has to do with .eps graphics in a .dvi file produced from
LaTeX . The graphics shows

This is about 2 weeks or more so don't remember which archive it
was which made xarchiver crash. You could either close down the bug or maybe I
can try if the bug triggers again with some archive. If it does happen will
