often a partition was mounted and when it was last checked with fsck,

The original developer and packager Vincent Danjean has disappeared from
Launchpad. I have rewritten the man page (attatched) but have no skills
when it comes to building packages. The man edit came from 'sudo apt-get
source showfsck' so i have all the debian stuff which is also in the
branch.
Unfortunately I am no export when it comes to Ubuntu, thus i try to
explain what i did try. Perhaps you can point me to additional tests
that i could try:

I tried the amd64 livecd for hardy alpha 1 with interesting results. The
initial screen with various options came up with no problem and I was
able to navigate options with arrow and function keys. However when I
selected *any* particular option using enter on the keyboard the cd
light started

Same problem here:
Two soundcards (1. onboard Intel (HDA), 2. PCI SB Audigy (CA0106)); after
rebooting, Gnome sound settings (almost) always sets back HDA as the default
sound mixer. Whats interesting, it only Default Mixer Track that is not saved
- Audio Conferencing settings (right above)
I have the same problem. I observe the same behavior at Gutsy (Linux kernel
image for version 2.6.17 on x86/x86_64, system is fully updated.).
Everything is fine if the CD is inserted during boot, in other case it freeze.
