Not sure about the patch. I don't think it pertains to the actual serial
module but rather irsend and lircd.
To prove this I recompiled the serial module (did not install) and replaced

The font *really* is unreadable.
Only 3 pixels high, on my Sony XBR4 (40 inch 1920x1080).
After setting display size in the monitor section of xorg.conf, it got better.
It is readable now, but still way too small.

shortcut text as already indicated.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back on this...I upgraded. I found
out later that the gutsy upgrade tended to have some problems; took me a
good three hours to get X even to come back up on my old graphics card.

Resolution settings losses its settings every time I reboot
I'm amazed that it could be so simple! There are some rough edges though:
after performing this trick, it seems libdvdcss2 doesn't work any more. So it
is almost impossible to watch commercial dvd's.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could

I realise that point. My purpose was sort of a friendly reminder that this

I think this is linux kernel problem.Installing the latest Fedora didn't
do any good , the drive kept clicking all the way through the
installation , increasing by about 500 in an hour or so , after the
install -without laptop-mode- it kept increasing at about ~1 per minute.

So I unloded snd-atiixp and reloaded it with ac97_codec=0. And it works!
I created a file /etc/modprobe.d/atiixp with the content:
