I've discovered what's happening here. On the Debian etch development
box that these steps worked, the IP address is set statically, outside
the normal DHCP range. On the Ubuntu 8.04 workstation that I performed
the above, the IP address was set dynamically.
I discovered that I could work around

driver+upsd+upsmon, or a net slave requiring only upsmon.

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion dv6747. It has an Intel HDA Chipset and I have
had the same problem but followed stereoit's instructions and got it
working.
What I did was dble click on the volume control which opened the task bar. Only
the play back tab was avalible.

I am having this problem as well, specifically with sites like
www.nu.nl. It looks so bad, it almost hurt my eyes;-) (check the
attachment) I think it has to do with the screen resolution as well
(1920 X 1200) on my Dell Precision M4300 with an nVidia Quadro FX 360M
graphics card. When I check

I have the same problem, I can't find a workaround for polkit-gnome-
authorization. If it helps, you can revoke the blocks using the command-
line, which will stop polkit-gnome-authorization from crashing, although
it obviously doesn't fix the underlying problem. You run polkit-auth

root privileges to eject the device, i.e.

you can configure the boot options by pressing escape at the grub count
down, pressing e to enter the edit mode, then edit what you wish. Pressing
b when you are done will boot the kernel with your modified options. That

I've using only my OS as usual. This bug never happened in Ubuntu 7.10
nor Debian SID (since I using it). The bug appeared when I was listening

It was due to the Lightning extension. I had the version 0.7 of

don't you force the compiz version and prevent synaptics from continuing to
update your compiz, until the problem is fixed? I
I just tried this with fglrx without 3D-accelaration and it seems to work
better. It won't leave artifacts, but guide line is still continous.
With open source Ati driver guide line leaves artefacts even with
3D-acceleration disabled.
With fglrx 3D-accelaration enabled and xorg.conf option

I'm glad to report that this issue has been resolved in Hardy Heron.
The latest LTS release has been a huge success as far as I'm concerned.

Oh yeah, me too. Namely updating Ubuntu Studio 7.10 to 8.04. I had to
remove audacious, audacious-plugins and audacious-plugins-extra to
get it to work at all. After dist-upgrade I did a reinstall of
audacious (whitout the -extra). Now they dont work or something, I
really dont know much

/etc/samba/smb.conf

I'm using a Hardy amd64 fresh install and this happens as well. I did,
however, set monitor to sleep after 5 min in power management. I just
put it to Never and will check if this still happens.
Also, Hardy can't seem to suspend properly here, but I'll report this
elsewhere.
