you only need to delete the sqlite files in your profiles directory.

I am having the same problem here. It seems that Synaptic/UpdateManager
resolves in this order: http_proxy(env) - .synaptic/conf - gconf
It seems that gksu sets the incorrect http_proxy env variable and UpdateManager
ends up using this. Even though gconf has the right configuration.

Hi. With a ThinkPad X61 Tablet, I encounter the same issue: no sound and no
error (logged or while playing music in any software). The only logged message
I get about hda is in dmesg:

nvidia-settings report a GPU temperature (during normal compiz enabled desktop

I tried the suggestion posted earlier, http://mailman.alsa-

This did not yield positive results: the audio is still silent.
These are the steps
To fix that, just comment out two lines in two files in /etc/pam.d:
commented line in common-auth:
#authoptionalpam_smbpass.so migrate
commented line in common-password:
#password optional pam_smbpass.so nullok use_authtok use_first_pass
All my 8.04 servers have now this lines

I had this same problem, but I fixed it installing the nvidia package version
169.12.
It does not work after installing the drivers, so, i looked at this post

and disabled the nv and nvidia_new modules in the

Pete, concerning the apport not reporting this crash correctly issue,

I think that's wrong. It is probably affecting Skype since it began to
do video under Linux. The problem is very ancient (since years) and the

In Xubuntu 7.10, happens the same: when i try to run xscorch server, the
program crashes. I have tryed this from the graphical interface (game menu) and
from console (xscorch --server).
