After a clean install of Ubuntu 8.10 AMD 64 on a Thinkpad T61 CTO-7658,
there is a constant internal clicking noise, which appears to be coming
from the hard drive, at various intervals: 10 seconds, 20 seconds,
etc...The problem does not appear if upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10.

This particular bug has been resolved in the new 8.10 release.
-Since the NVidia Legacy driver is nolonger supported, there is no
problem with it anymore.
-The problem with the atheros wireless card driver (ath_pci) was simply
resolved as documented in Intrepid's release notes:

Actually the new xrandr tool, while it has limitations, is already
substantially better in this regard than displayconfig with a modern X.org.
The main limitation is that total display area needs to be rectangular so the
two displays need to be set at the same resolution.

I see this same problem with a newly upgraded Ibex, but with both the
wired and wireless connections. Even attempting to run wpa_supplicant
by hand on the command line won't work. I have to reboot the machine to

I'm not sure if this is related or not, but my Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.11
bootable CD doesn't work now. The CDs bring up the install menu, but
once I select "Install", it starts to the load the Ubuntu progress bar,
and then the progress bar freezes. My alternate 8.04 install CD isn't
recognized as a boo
To my surprise, it actually asked me multiple times how I wanted to
update the menu.lst; the first time, I chose the merge, yes; after that,
I just had it rewrite the automagic section. I have to add a statement
to the kernel options to get my touchpad to work, but I didn't consider
it a huge prior

I have a dv9000 and I have the same problem. It is a strange issue
though. The boot will hang unless I hold down a key on the keyboard
until it gets to the point of running init scripts. If I boot with

Happened to me again... However, it never came back, but I was able to
ssh into the machine remotely and run a dmesg. Doesn't appear to be any
messages. The keyboard is completely locked out, but the mouse works.
This is rather annoying, 4th time today it has done this.
