I do get input from sudo cat /dev/input/mice. I tried the xinput set-
button-map Logitech USB Trackball 1 8 3 4 5 6 7 2 9 command, which
worked, so I decided to make the change to the mouse-wheel.fdi file to

Looks like my system simply ran out of memory, and I didn't notice
(because the page cache was still ~1 GB).
(Well, I did notice that it started using the disk more heavily, and
blamed background cron jobs, and then two days later the system suddenly
started thrashing so hard I had to reboot.
Ah, forgot to mention: this morning I saw the same wifi-related page
allocation failures. Since I was running out of memory, this is not
surprising and not a bug at all. (What is a bug is that memory leak in
compiz.)

Hi shemgp, and thanks for your effort writing this patch. It doesn't solve the
issue for me though, the terminal now starts, but closes immediately, without
crashing nautilus though. Valgrind reveals no illegal operations, it seems like
a triggered assertion.

Am I missing some reason that we would want to call the hal methods via
dbus instead of just calling pm-* directly? If there isn't a reason for
this, then I think we should just call pm-{suspend,hibernate} directly
for simplicity's sake.

Jaunty: after install the
I re-installed the system, so now I have a fresh installation of Ubuntu
9.04.
There's been a small improvement but it doesn't work properly yet, now
the following (mostly useless) resolutions are detected:
- 320x240
- 400x300
- 512x384
- 576x432
- 640x480
- 680x384
- 800x600
- 1024x768

I am a beginner when it comes to Ubuntu, so I just click on every update
that the update manager presents, not knowing that it might disable one
or two of my hardware. In this case the sound seems to be the setting
affected by the update. I know it's because of the update
