My best guess is that buffering is the problem, because driver seems to
read CD every 30 seconds before continue playing CD. How the CD player

An easy way to reproduce this is to just do:
printf \003\n\x1A\n
This shows than when receiving these characters, gnome-terminal tries to
print them, instead of ignoring them.
When doing: printf ##\003##\n, gnome-terminal (and thus also
terminator), will print 2 hash characters, then the unicode

I'm having probably the same problems with Ubuntu 9.10 on my eeepc 900.
I wanted to use the alternate ISO to get full disk encryption with LVM
to work (live installer doesn't support these).

Make sure you don't have the kill switch on the side of your
machine cut on. That could be your issue..if the rfkill switch is on then
wireless isn't going to work.
I wish I could tell you something. But as mentioned
before I have the exact same 5350 card
