specific driver r8101 V 1.020 which I have just downloaded. I will give it a go

i got the same problem after update from 10.10 to 11.04 ... black screen

quickfix:
1) press ctrl+alt+f1 and log in
2) delete file xorg.conf (sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf)
3) create new empty xorg.conf (sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf)
4) paste this in xorg.conf:
Section "Device"
