It looks like the IPI to wakeup the CPU at boot is not getting through.
Just to sanity check things, can you also test with just the kernel
parameter: noapic and see what happens. The output from

I noticed this slight oddity while installing Ubuntu 12.10 to replace
Windows 7.
Some background info. I had three partitions as follows:
/dev/sda1 (NTFS, 100 MB, W7 special partition)
/dev/sda2 (NTFS, 65 GB, W7 system partition)
/dev/sda3 (NTFS, 400 GB, user files)

3.5? or only 3.6/3.7? Will this be an Ubuntu patch for the 3.5 kernel?
I'm basically just trying to ask whether I'll see this in the official
kernel for 12.10 at some point?

I just upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 via the update manager. Everything
went smoothly untill reboot. After reboot, I have no window manager, and
no unity interface (I don't know if they're the same thing). To be
