My guess is its not the ringtone. Based on the log and the symptom that
sometimes you hear the ring briefly and it stops, I am assuming some
scenario where multiple threads are running and there is a race
condition as to whether you hear the ringtone or not. How that condition

text mode or Unity with /etc/rc.local marked executable. I can ssh to
the affected machine when /etc/rc.local runs, however, and my
application started there, which uses internet connectivity is up and
working fine.
