Just discovered that this crash goes away if python-gobject-dbg is installed... in other words, there is no problem as long as python2.7-dbg is able to find the debug version of the module. However, if only the standard version of the library exists, then python2.7-dbg seems to fall over. **

It turns out that the python2.7-dbg crash goes away as long as the python-gobject-dbg package is installed. Hopefully, the package will now build in natty if we add Build-Depends: python-gobject-dbg. I have created LP: #727649 to deal with the bug in python, but it should no longer hold us back.
