Having reviewed the logs, it is clear that I was doing something dumb in
trying to install grub on /dev/sda1 (a partition) instead of /dev/sda
(my first hard disk) (See last line of comment #3).
However, I would still expect the installer to handle this gracefully,
without crashing, so this bug

Live CD installer
I had what appeared to be exactly this problem.
When I toggle the fn-f2 key the wirless connection would appear to be
enabled but as soon as I click the 'Enable Wirless' option it would
disappear and the 'wireless connection disabled by hardware switch'
message would come up.
Whilst reading this
I may have the same problem. I've noticed that I can usually interact
with the desktop for several seconds before the lock screen shows up
when I come back to my locked computer. The problem seems more severe
when the system is under high load.

I am seeing this as well on natty. Like dtalk, it happens without
suspending. It seems to happen randomly about once every other day for
me. I don't know what is the difference between the times it locks the
screen saver vs when the screen saver login works fine.

I have the exact same problem and it seems to occur for me with
2.6.38-11 but not 2.6.38-10 as often. It does not occur with 2.6.35.

I'm having a similar issue with every torrent client I've tried (Deluge,
Transmission, and Azureus). I think I've found a workaround though.
Apparently having an encrypted home directory is interfering with
torrent downloads somehow. When I moved the download folder to an

I have also been having the scrollbar issue in Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit with
the repository package install of eclipse (3.5.2). Surprisingly, this
bug also caused screen artifact issues when scrolling the screen on the
project list. Lines would appear from elements previously rendered in

I've found a less than satisfactory, but acceptable solution until this
bug is fixed. When I log in, the first thing I do is issue the command
xset -dpms to turn off the energy star features (standby, suspend,
off). This means I can now have my screensaver active and close the lid

I tried your suggestion with xset. No dice. The problem is that I
can't enter that command within the session where the screen locks, I
have to change to a session other than TTY7 (where the X server is
running) in order to have interaction with the display. That means when

My screen locks to screensaver after 5 minutes. No problem. I can
unlock it and go on. However, after 15 minutes, the display is put to
sleep. That is when the screen locks. Mouse and keyboard don't work

One additional comment on my issue. If I lock the screen before closing
my laptop (I set my system to blank the screen when the lid is closed)
then I'm okay. On the other hand, if I just close the lid without
locking the screen, then the screen will freeze when the screensaver
tries to start.
Okay, one final comment on my issue. As it turns out, lock the screen
before closing the lid or not, it will most likely freeze the screen
once the screen is blanked or suspends. With blanking, there seems to
be a time issue: the longer the lid is closed, the more likely the
screen will freeze.
I am also experiencing this. I run dual monitors and created a new
account to test but even that sees the issue. In both cases for me, it
happens when I login on my external monitor (it's a laptop - Ubuntu sees
my internal as primary and I don't have issues on that).

I don't understand how Debian packaging works, but a file called ubuntu-
wallpapers-extra.xml.in has WhiteOrchid.jpg at the top of the file, with
the rest listed below. So for some reason, something is setting the GDM
to WhiteOrchid.jpg because it's the first on the list (probably
something to do
Are we sure this is an nvidia issue? I would assume it's a race
condition because the SSD is so fast.
I also have this issue on an Intel X25-M. I can try Noveau but it's too
slow to use regularly, I think.

So without running Tommy's fix[1], this makes Audacity completely
unusable when using a mouse. Thus, it is a 'medium' bug is it not?
What needs to be done to have this fixed in Maverick?
