I had this problem as well. After trying to install the driver, I
uninstalled all the FGLRX components in gnome-terminal and tried using
Hardware Drivers to install again. It worked (the driver appears as
activated). I restarted and got the proper screen resolution, etc.
That said, I still can't g

Hey Bryce. Yeah, I can give this a shot and see what happens. I'm not
really using that box any more; it's just sitting around, so I can
tinker with it as I wish.
I take it the image you wish me to download and install is this one:

I just noticed this as well. I dislike having two places for pictures,
so I changed the default directory in F-Spot's options to a hidden

That was not my experience this time around. I've used nvidia-settings
in the past to create an xorg.conf that would do what I liked (with a
tiny bit of tweaking of course) and so I became a xorg.conf jedi master.
But with Hardy, nvidia-settings doesn't work at all for me. Not even a
bit. It can't

If that is the case -- and I don't think it is necessarily the case --
then that's something that needs to be changed or worked around. It
feels like working with Windows 95 or something.

Thanks for the reply, I've followed your blog on Ubuntu Planet for quite
a while now especially in regards to the xrandr GUI.
I'm going to have to move back to 7.10 then, as I pretty much need my
setup the way it is (or was, I should say). As it is right now, 8.04
breaks quite a few things for me
Is there any way that this can be resolved without requiring the user to
log in and log out? I, for instance, use Ubuntu because it's stable and
polished and I don't have to restart and log in and log out all the
time. This would be the ideal behaviour.
As it is right now the error it spits out is

One additional comment. I disabled the Ubuntu restricted NVidia driver
and installed the 173.08 Beta driver from NVidia's site.
This fixed the massive corruption of Metacity decorations under Compiz,
but hasn't fixed the TV-out issue, leading me to believe that the issue

I'd like to confirm this bug. I've got an nVidia NV44 [GeForce 6200 LE]

detects the card and monitor properly, but Restricted Manager is pushing
the 'Nvidia-glx-new' driver to me, which does NOT work with this card.
