On an AMILO XI2428 (currently running 9.04 perfectly) I'm not able to
start the current karmic4 live cd.
The screen hangs just after I hit return in the bootmenu selection.
Tried to mingle with kernel parameters (removed quit, splash, used nosplash,
disabled acpi a.s.o.) -
Tried to reboot with debug= ... no change.
The screen freezes with no cpu or disk activity. The original screen as
captured in the screenshot stays, so no more debugging info possible.

this is not a wishlist thing. This is an annoying bug that was/is not
present in 8.04.2 but in Jaunty and 8.10!
The soundcard is incredibly loud and you cannot do anything except

In current jaunty-alpha2 the display does not come up as well -
X starts and fails on DVI-0.
Unfortunately I'm not able to switch to text console - trying to reach a
normal terminal shuts down the display. Thus I cannot provide logs or

Performed a fresh installation of ubuntu 8.10 on the same machine -
worked perfectly until I upgraded to nvidia-177.80 and kubuntu-desktop /
kde-i18n.
Having installed kdm and ubuntu I wasn't able to reboot into graphical
mode.
Solution was to switch back to gdm as default display manager -
These logs were created after reboot into not working graphical mode with
nvidia 177.80 on a freshly installed ubuntu 8.10

a) xrandr --output DVI --mode 1280x1024 in .xprofile
b) a) + driver ati in /etc/X11/xorg.conf
= picture was seen for an instant and disappeared afterwards
c) a) + driver vesa in /etc/X11/xorg.conf works fine

This seems to have changed the situation slightly - starting with vesa
gives a stable but flickering picture, while driver ati yields a picture
for only a second before going black.

It's not an exact duplicate of #272877.
Changing the driver (with alpha6) to vesa or ati gives a correct picture
for approx. 1 second - after that the screen turns black. If I use ati
the screen disappears after moving the mouse.
I attached the log - first change was to vesa, after that to ati.

The thing is that intrepid does not work.
The intrepid xorg.conf is empty - no recognition of screen or display driver is
happening.
I verified this with daily build 2008-09-18 (kernel 2.6.27-3) as

no entrys in syslog during burning or accessing the media.

Since things have not evolved I checked my log dir and found maybe other
useful stuff.
I don't have any terminals right now, which is not very satisfying.

several aptitude dist-upgrades after the major upgrades.

Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: update-manager
Upgrading from 7.04 to 7.10 kubuntu with update-manager -d lets
python-apt_0.7.31ubuntu3 fail.
After that many packages can't be upgraded -
including update-manager-core, update-manager, update-manager-notifier .
