Just wanted to say that I tried on Windows and file transfer is
extremely slow in this phone and the K750i. By slow I mean slower than
half a USB 1.1 connection. A 6MB file can take up to 2 minutes to
transfer. I transferred 1.4GB worth of music to the phone in about 5
hours (!!!). No difference

When trying to unmount from desktop via right click safe eject (sorry,
don't know what's the menu entry in english) it will take a couple of
minutes and then fail, informing me nicely of lots of processes

I have done what Benno (thanks Benno :)) suggested and it oubviously
workarounded the problem (adding 20hal restart on rc.local).
Just for the record, I've found that acppi-support is run almost at the
end of the boot process (S99acpi-support), whereas dbus is loaded at the
beginning (S12dbus),

I disagree, Mark. This is a HAL, not a KDE issue. The applet is NOT
misbehaving, it is acting properly. It is HAL itself who fails to detect
CPU capabilities, as per my two last posts - restarting the HAL service
after boot has finished will workaround the issue. Only then will HAL
report proper
HAL fails to report CPU capabilities unless restarted.

I'd say this is a network-manager rather than an applet problem since nm-tool
cannot report any working interfaces.

I've revised the config of several other K/Ubuntu machines of people
around and they all have /etc/network/interfaces populated with relevant
stuff, and they are all default installations of Dapper or Edgy.
As n1ywb, this is going to bite quite a lot of people.

dispatcher and now nm-tool reports correctly my network devices.

Yesterday's update (2007-04-11) borked the whole thing again.
KNetworkManager says that it couldn't find any network devices (even

The applet began reporting 0MHz after I dist-upgraded yesterday (the

I'm having the same problem, on Kubuntu Edgy and stock FF2. I tried not
using my FF profile, but it will randomly crash just as well.
This is not the only application showing this behaviour, but it is the
one in with it is more frequent: Amarok, Konqueror, KWin and Kicker are
others.

I have noticed that if the laptop is powered and is doing something (for
example, amarok's playing a file), performance is also normal.
So there must be some issues in how the acpi thing is allocating
resources when the laptop is powered and mostly idle.
