After further investigation, I discovered a work-around.
The problem appears to be the result of an upgrade from a time where
gnome-online-accounts was used in ubuntu. My google account was added
there, and the ghosts of that addition seem to have echoed into 12.04 --
where that package is no

Adding export DBUS_DEBUG_OUTPUT=1 to the params section of
/etc/default/dbus resulted in the same errors as before, with system
unresponsiveness at the login screen. A hard restart is required to

Is this a hardware level display? IE something that can be displayed
independent of operating system, or current display setting. I think
this is a kernel bug but not sure.
