Also mucked up sound on Totem Xine and Rhythmbox. I've un-installed it

english language to be loaded. It all ready was loaded during the inital
setup. I have seen this issue on more than one install. After I could
not get past this issue, I rebooted, it is at that time I

well I am no expert - but all that has been done here that seems at all
relevant is the big (166 files - ) partial update that was done this
morning. The fact that I have upgraded the cpu also from amd x24200 to a
5000 doesnt make things slower either heheh.

It has occured to me that this problem showed up just after an automated

I'll be happy to test out the Alpha5 build after it is released, but can
you tell me precisely what kernel option or options I should provide to
disable DMA? I understand ide=nodma is deprecated and may even be

Despite all my efforts I could not get DMA disabled on Ubuntu 8.04 using
kernel 2.6.24 and a sparc processor. I tried all the options listed
above (hda=nodma, the obsolete ide=nodma, ide_core.options=nodma, etc.
etc. etc.) and all indications in logs and such were that DMA was
disabled as desired,
Just want to add that reverting to the older 6.06.2 Ubuntu distro with
the 2.6.15 kernel worked fine.

the Keytouch application .

Note: removing the PATA drive allowed the system to boot, but the IDE dvd/cd
burner would run very very
slowly (1.0x). If I use the all_generic_ide parameter on the grub menu.lst,
things would work normally
(including fast dvd/cd burning).
