Hi,
I did an upgrade via terminal yesterday, everything seemed to work fine
but then I noticed very heavy CPU usage by gnome-shell. The problem is
that the UHD card is not fully recognized, so it uses instead llvmpipe,

Taking a look at unity8 in the phone, where the introspection is
actually working, u8 tries to load the library twice and the second
attempt gets the registration error. I assumed that the object could not
be registered because it was already registered.

Since I installed calibre, which brought imagemagick-6-q16 in, nautilus
or firefox opens PDF documents with it, which does not allow me to read

I'm having this problem as well under XFCE. I use CTRL+ALT+ARROWS to move
between my 6 (3x2) workspaces, and each time I move to the desktop having
chromium is only partially refreshed.
I've found that it only happens if I switch on XFCE's Enable display
composition under Settings -- Window

I don't think it's an nvidia problem. My Laptop has an Intel graphic
card (Chipset: Mobile Intel GE45 Express, Card: Intel GMA 4500MHD):

Under Linux Mint 17 (based on Ubuntu 14.04), is still happening.
After arranging all the icons in my favourite positions, I pressed F5
and everything moved to the left in vertical lines of icons :-(

I removed vlc via sudo apt-get --purge remove (put all packages giving errors
when trying apt-get install -f) and then reinstall vlc from scratch, after
finishing the software upgrade which produced the errors. So:
1) Remove all erroneous packages, this might take a few iterations as you need
Clock is back after last update with new kernel, version
3.13.0-24-generic. I am using the default ambiance environment.

Date and time
Same here, upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 and date and time is missing from
the panel. When I go to Time and Date Settings the clock tab is
greyed out, I can see the option to show clock in menu bar but it is
greyed out (marked as display) and all options are unreachable.

How many songs do you have in the collection? I have something like
20.000, and it used to be very smooth before, with the same number.
Also, this machine has a SSD card instead of HD. Not sure what goes on.
If I use ptrace I can only see brk increasing memory slowly ( 0x1000 on
each call ) and
I just tried rhythmbox 3.0.1, from ppa:jacob/media, on top of 13.10, and
it fails exactly the same. I'm not sure if any of the changes in 14.04
will fix it, but I highly doubt it
