Ok, I had given up on this a week ago because nothing would get X not to

else causing the lockup.
Anyway, after I got the network up I updated the system and I tested

There are still kde 3.92 packages in universe (and similar in gutsty-

that pop up on irc lately from people that search adept or synaptic
before reading the kubuntu.org instructions.

This is a problem on hardy currently.
I don't know if it should be defaulted to each screen because with the
usual background art stretched looks ok.
The issue also seems to be that an extra background is drawn on the
display with the login which is redundant and a waste of resources on

Just discovered this same thing here when I noticed my knob was working
on my dell keyboard.

down it turns the bass control up and down.

I removed kmilo (the osd) and set the global shortcuts in kmix for the

gnome volume thing interact with at the system level I guess since the

There is an even simpler solution for this problem. Un-patch firefox so
it does what it's suppose to do and allow it to always be able to
download the latest flash plugin and install it. This gives you what
comment 117 talks about and it does work because it has always worked
with firefox until it
This is still broken on gutsy and the packages won't get updated with
apt-get so I really think they should be pulled from backports.
This problem that is easily fixed means myself and many others I'm sure
ignore the constant update notification in Kubuntu.

Flash player 9.0 r115 crashes nspluginwrapper in Konqueror
I have now tested Brandon's fix on all supported ubuntu platforms.
Some sites have minor issues, but thats down to plugin changes, not the
install package.
Matt,
This does not work on Konqueror (or the non beta Opera) so I have no idea how
you can say there are only minor issues when Konqueror
Ok,
I'm very aware of the other bug because THAT is what the problem is with fixing
this bug. You are intentionally causing another unnecessary breakage that most
likely will never get fixed because it will involve new, untested, and unknown
how stable code it can be for the KDE3 series.
Why
While this obviously is going to fix the md5 check which technically is
the bug here it is also going to break every flash install for people
using konqueror that have a working 9.0.48.0.2+really0ubuntu12 version
installed when this update reaches them.
This is hardly an issue anyway for the
Maybe on Ubuntu but on Kubuntu I know for a fact that when just firefox
is installed (apt-get install firefox) that firefox itself downloads the
macromedia flashplugin, if you click the button that you are presented
when the plugin is missing, and installs it in $HOME/.mozilla/plugins
directory
This was a Kubuntu 7.10 install done just the other day, updated, then
firefox was installed. I had installed the flashplugin-nonfree package
and noticed the md5 error message and firefox didn't have a flash plugin
visible so it didn't work and the drop down info bar or whatever it's
called under
The version 9.0.115 of the flash plugin won't work with konqueror
because it requires XEmbed. 9.0.48 is the last version that will work
which is the default version for gutsy (which this bug was about) but
the fix here seems to be to update to 115 but that still will leave
Kubuntu broken.

This issue is still present which causes a constant upgrade notification
on kubuntu.
The problem seems to be that libxine1 has required: libxine1-plugins or
libxine1-misc-plugins which was or should be a recommend since they
pull in the gnome packages which aren't a default on a kubuntu system.
For those not getting direct rendering, or other issues releated to this
chipset, you need to understand that you can't do 3D with 24 bit color,
there's not enough video ram for this. You have to change the default
depth to 16.
To repeat something else, the default install of feisty is working
I've posted this xorg.conf elsewhere but maybe that bug is closed now.
It works fine here with the default install and this xorg.conf except it
takes a cold start sometimes for the acceleration to be working,
otherwise it paints to the screen really slow. Also I don't think the
savage chips
It does work here. I did remember that I enabled acpi in grub but I
can't recall if this affected X or not. Again, this may not work if you
don't power off the laptop since rebooting doesn't reinitialize the bios
with these laptops. Powering off then starting up again is 100% working
every time
This doesn't happen here on feisty.
Do you have common hardware of some sort or an exact way to reproduce
this 100% of the time? Possibly a particular application that is causing
this?
