This is a high priority bug, you can see it at the top of this page
This command will implement the workaround
sudo wget http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=4HHup7ZF -O
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/indicator-sound.service
then logout and login
to verify it worked run this
md5sum
in that case lets make this long line another 25% longer
Exec=/bin/sh -c 'if [ -n $(ps -U $USER | grep xfce4-panel) ]; then
/usr/lib/indicator-sound-gtk2/indicator-sound-service;else /usr/lib/$(if [
$(arch) == i686 ];then echo i386;else
you have to reapply #5
if the sound indicator packages updates w/out a fix you have to reapply it
there is another solution in #75 it should work better with multiple
desktop environments installed and you have multiple users/sessions

The arrows are extremely small and hard to click due to there size
They are so small if they were any smaller they would become a dot, they are
made of exactly 4 pixels + a shadow effect

Purging gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 and gstreamer1.0-fluendo-mp3 and reinstalling
libmad0 appears to have fixed it in 14.04
as i said downgrading gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 to 0.10.15.debian-1ubuntu1
solved this issue on my 13.10 install
