David Avsajanishvili, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

Yes, Brad's comment on 2010-04-12 and Johnathan's comment on 2010-08-30
both mention BIOS settings that fix this issue.

Can confirm this same bug with a fix for HP Mini 1010nr -- In BIOS
enable Network Boot. I assume this forces something similar to disabling
power save on lan on other machines.

I also have the HP 5310m with the same problem, and Brad's fix worked
for me too. Thanks for the tip :-)

You
Brad, thank you for that info.
Can confirm Brad's fix works - can see eth0 in both gnome network manager and
through ifconfig now (running 64 bit lucid updated to RC)
Some more info... Tried booting into windows 7 (pro, 32bit) and the
ethernet didn't show up there either when not connected. But
I'm experiencing these same issues on my new HP 5310m and using the
above mentioned pci=use_crs has no impact.
I have no problems with wireless but have no ethernet unless it is
plugged in on a cold boot (A restart still results in no ethernet). When
plugged in there is no issues with
For anyone who finds this via google, like me, there is a setting in you
BIOS on your 5310m (Possibly other notebooks as well) to power save the
LAN. I have disabled this and everything now works correctly. YAY!

I can confirm that this also happens on my 5310m with Ubuntu 9.10

System crashes if cable hot unplugged; No interface but lo listed by
Just noticed something strange - when network-manager has already
connected to a wireless network then unplugging and replugging the
network cable works correctly. Steps:
1. Start machine with wireless networks in range (already configured in
network-manager) and network cable unplugged.
2. Log
Looks like this bug is fixed in karmic-proposed, there is also a
workaround using pci=use_crs as a kernel parameter. Details here:

I've got a HP Probook 5310m with Kubuntu 9.10 with the gnome networkmanager
applet (otherwise I can't get my secure wireless to work). And have exactly the
same problems. When booting without cable no networkcard is listed. When
booting with cable no probs (using it right now). But when I
Hi, Steven!
No, I couldn't solve this problem. Every time I need LAN I have to reboot my
netbook. Also, I discovered, that if I suspend the operating system (by closing
the netbook), unplug cable and resume, the system is not crashed: it crashes
only if I hot-unplug the cable.
It is definitely
