The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.
There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

Here is /var/log/syslog after unsuccessful startup and subsequent

connect to the network.

While it seemed to work okay for me for a while, after a clean install,
it now seems to work intermittently.
Seemingly at random, when I boot up I sometimes need to ifdown/ifup
cycle my wireless card for it to connect properly.
Using 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP.
All packages are up to date.
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Now that the final version of Feisty Fawn is available we were
wondering if this issue still exists. Thanks in advance.

Because of the manual network configuration in '/etc/network/interfaces'
network manager is ignoring / not managing your network connection.
Subsequently it is currently unaware of its status (whether it is off-
line or on-line), however a patch for that is currently being tested.
Once that new
Thought I'd add that after the last bath of updates everything works
fine for me now.

Same for me. The one curious thing is that the network monitor applet
tells me that I have a working network (which I do) and the network
manager applet tells me that I don't.

I am sorry to be so ignorant, but I do not know what network-manager is
or if I want network-manager to manage my networks. I just want the
network to come up when I boot :-)
In Gnome, I selected System - Administration - Networking and typed in
my root pw to an app identifying itself as
Cay, if you want network-manager to manage your wireless connection you
will need to remove the wireless-essid and wireless-key lines from your
'/etc/network/interfaces' file. When network-manager is managing your
interface the essid and wireless-key will be stored in your gnome-
keyring. Using

I have a similar problem with a Thinkpad X60 tablet and a 3945 card.
No network connection on boot, but when I run sudo ifdown eth0; sudo
ifup eth0, I connect with no further problems.
When browsing around, someone else complained that this may be related
to connecting to a non-broadcast SSID.
