I set the screen saver to blank and had the same problem, however I
ran apt-get update and it fixed it. No idea what package caused it but
apparently it is resolved.

It crashed on my edgy up to date system.
If I run evince from a terminal I get this when the error happen:

Forget the previous comment. I hadn't noticed that I had answered a mail
sent by the bug subscription system. I guess that if Pavel Mlčoch had
solved his problem, he wouldn't post here. ;)

I am using dapper, as stock an installation as I can manage. I'll
upgrade to edgy when it's released, though.
I'll attach a particular photo that doesn't get detected; camera info
and whatnot should all be in the EXIF tags.

It is still annoying but I have found/made a workaround. I have changed the
permissions of /proc/acpi/sony/brightness with chmod 666
/proc/acpi/sony/brightness so that every user can change brightness. This has
to be done on every start so /etc/rc.local is a good place for it. If there are
i also got a crash of ssindex, but i was doing something completely
independant on the computer, so i'm 99% certain that beagle called it on
one CSV file on my HD while indexing, and then it crashed.
i'll attach the crash report, it's probably the same bug than the
original reporter found.
to crash ssindex, run
ssindex -i empty file.csv

OK, now I updated my dapper to edgy and it works. maybe it didn't work
only when using X/compiz on the liveCD? will mark the bug as rejected.
