or so, i hear a tick or a double tick, and my load cycle count is

Another forum gave me an idea. I dual boot from Vista, but if I
shutdown, then unplug the power cord, boot to Kubuntu, then plug the
cord back in, the sound **seems** to work. I've only reproduced this
twice so I'm not ready to call it a workaround but it does seem to
have merit. The reasoning

The most annoying thing that this has worked in Edgy Eft. It broke in
Feisty, then it's still broken in Gutsy.
My only 'workaround' was to either:
1. unplug the USB device from my USB hub and plug it directly into my machine,
skipping the HUB. But I need the HUB because I have many USB devices
it's a shame this fix you provide really solve the problem :

Ok, turned out to be broken cable. I replaced it, here's the output of
these commands:
