I also just stumbled upon this problem, it is annoying especially if you are
using a smaller application font size than the default one (e.g. 8 instead of

Is the "Show Actions menu" option enabled in gdmsetup? Seems like this
option is somehow linked to the logout window options: the "Shut Down"
and "Restart" buttons do not get displayed if this option has been
turned off. At least that is the case on my laptop with Hardy installed.

I can confirm that this bug exists, and I concur with Tobias
Gruetzmacher that the cause is the 'mode=' mount option in the casper
script.
The fix is to unpack the initrd.gz file, edit the file 'scipts/casper'
(to remove the 'mode=755' from the mount cowdevice line for the

I upgraded to Kubuntu 8.04 from 7.10 on two machines with NVIDIA. I
deleted the xorg.conf and rebooted, still worked fine. Except that I was
of course back in NV-drivers. So I used the restricted manager to enable
the proprietary NVIDIA driver. It as said created a xorg.cong described

have a similar problem: my kill-switch is working, i see and can connect
to my wireless-network, recieve an ip-address from the dcp server but

For anybody else having this annoying problem here is the way I usually
help myself.
* open terminal
* type n - TAB, bash-completion will respond with a list of command starting
with n
* copy numlockx and paste it into the console twice with a space in between
* delete everything but the o from t

I just booted up again - didn't get that crash message and everything
appears to be working fine - including Update Manager when I launch it
from the System menu. Update Manager is working very slow but I'm sure
that's because the entire planet is upgrading to 8.04 today. :)

I've been trying to reproduce this problem for the last 48 hours and I
cannot get it to crash. I'm thinking the latest gvfs update did the

Nautilus Hangs if Open For an E
Hi,
Does it appear as "Database Server (postgresql-8.2)" in the list, sorted
under D.
Is it listed there. It would seem to make more sense that it's called
PostgreSQL. First we need to find out if it really is totally missing,
or just filled under a strange name.

So it looks very much like it is the wireless card drivers... and to
reinforce the annoyingly inconsistent nature of this, it followed
streaming 'high qualify' video from the BBC website (and doing more DNS
lookups) without problems for about an hour before it locked up. This

I noticed exactly same problem with Totem, Epiphany and flashplugin-
nonfree. I have Gnash installed but it's not the default in update-
alternatives.
Ask for more infos if needed.

This is still an issue post-release.
One extra note: while the computer is contemplating waking up (which it
does reliably, just slowly most of the time), I see some console output
at the top of the screen. First it starts out with a blinking underline
cursor, then usually says that it's reloading
Confirmed - without libflashsupport Firefox doesn't crash and Flash
works. However, when playing sound in VLC/Totem/... I cannot hear sound
in Flash without first closing down these programs. When playing sound
from Flash (e.g. Youtube), I cannot hear sound from other programs
without first restart
Same cause, we just split up the loading of the low memory ranges a bit more.
Note that this is caused by Ubuntu security defaults, not by Wine, and it's not
an error but a warning. Use the workaround described above.

i have the same problem. i got 10 hdds, all ide, but only 3 of them are
connected to the mainboard, the rest are connected to two promise ultra
ata133tx2 conntroller cards. in setup all drives ar designated as scsi
drives, install completes ok but when i start i get grub 1.5 error 22 or
