The immediate problem turned out to be a stray file in
/var/lib/locales/supported.d, namely a typescript file that got there from
one of my attempts to debug something else. It also turns
out that locale-gen looks at all files in that directory, and its filters don't
catch that a typescript is

I have my library on a CIFS share, and when I want something deleted, I
would like it deleted, but Move to Trash fails (for reasons above)
silently. Surely this should be detected and presented to the user, so
that he can take the choice either to leave the file as-is, or delete it

the noxcb libx11 works fine but Compiz does not work anymore. Compiz
depends on libx11-xcb1. The noxcb libx11-xcb1 package contains nothing
(except the normal doc files). So compiz.real complains that it cannot
find libX11-xcb.so.1. I have tried to recompile compiz. But it complains
about

I'm having the same issue. I can reproduce the behavior every time
though. I have a panel with a firefox launcher. I'm also using compiz
(so the when I click on a launcher the icon does the zoom and fade out
thing) It's easier to reproduce the bug when compiz is enabled.
To reproduce the problem:

I confirm this bug. It happens both in KDE3 and KDE4 and yes, the
background of the rectangular area is the same of the KDE system window
background. Look at the attachment to see how widgets are rendered in my
case.
