This seems to be what is happening to me about every 30-60 minutes on

I'm running the backport modules, and it has not helped at all.
The only issue I am having here, is that I can get the error to happen
on the alt+ctrl+f1 screen, however, it is larger than the screen, so I

Hello,
Ubuntu 8.0.4 crashed while opening a .mpg in totem player. it was a hang, no
response to keyboard, the mouse was moving but not response to clicks.
Ctrl+Alt+F1, etc did not open a console.
On a reboot, the system did not come up. Neither did rescue mode. Rescue mode
I have since discovered that HP's latest BIOS for this machine is
causing the fan to remain on all the time. This is not an OS issue.

OK, during boot up is fine now, no breaks or crashes.
The problem now is that the usplash does not show up during shutdown. Instead

I've added this patch locally and filed it upstream. In the future, try

If Ubuntu is about community and Freedom, it seems a bit ironic to me that a
user's first experience with the newly installed/upgraded Intrepid Ibex will be
a EULA that is long, confusing, and screams proprietary software.

I admit, I *love* having the branded firefox in ubuntu, but if it comes
at the cost of an EULA, I'd much prefer iceweasel or an equivalent.
EULA's should not be in programs distributed in main. I know people get
used to them in windows world, but when I installed skype from medibuntu
and an eula
Dump firefox. The elua is a bad idea. Switch to new free-of-
restrictions version of a browser.
Do not force via automatic updates or via an install hidden licenses.
Break the current upgrade path.

System Monitor uses the correct units. The bug is in GVFS, not System
Monitor. The K = 1024 convention is unfamiliar to users (especially in
metric countries), and it is officially deprecated. See the Linux
Programmer's Manual for an explanation.

executables. What happens if a significant fraction of these start
requiring an "I agree" on installation/upgrade/execution?
Personally I think it would be completely appropriate to strip the
"Mozilla" and "Firefox" labels off of
