[Bug 666180] [NEW] KVM does not boot Ubuntu i386 10.04 minimal sever images
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm After upgrade from 10.04 - 10.10 all the libvirt domains did not boot and the cpu usage went 100%. Trying to isolate the problem I found that kvm on maverick is unable to boot ubuntu 10.04 i386 virtual minimal setup. Other guests versions booted just fine. I even moved the image to another computer with also maverick edition and tried to boot the images there with no success. I then tried to make a new guest installation using 10.04.1 i386 server iso with 'minimal virtual' option ON. The setup went just fine but trying to boot the fresh install ended on the same thing. Trying to do the same with a debian guest worked with no problems. The actual effect is that when KVM boots the disk images, grub is executed and after that, black screen (on guest) and 100% cpu usage on host. Notice: All hosts and guests are i386. I made the same tests through libvirt and by directly using kvm to boot the images from the terminal. [Bug 651134] Re: apache crashes with *** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/apache2: double free or corruption (fasttop): 0x00007f8b5c8fdac0 ***
I am not sure if this is even related. I have received in the past the above error verbatim. But the last few weeks I've been getting various errors that start out: *** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/apache2: usually what this results in is apache delivering a blank page (until I restart apache) or like the above - it segfaults but still delivers pages however I have an increase in processes until it's out of control and I have to kill them and restart apache. [Bug 666144] [NEW] 10.10 / drives not recognized / Marvell / DriveXpert
Public bug reported: Think there is a Linux kernel bug. I have an Asus P5Q Premium with SIL5723 and I guess Marvell drivers (61xx / 88se6121). Everything was working nice when running 10.04. After installing 10.10, Ubuntu would not recognize disks on the SIL5723. I have part of a Raid 6 on these connectors. ICH10 disks no problems. Disks are recognized by BIOS and I see disks (DriveXpert when starting the PC. When booting it takes a lot of time and then I get message about raid not mountable. Started 10.10 with kernel 2.6.32 and raid mounted and working perfect. Guess 2.6.32 is long term stable release. However with this kernel I'm not able to run Gparted and there might be other problems as well. Guess 2.6.32 was available for booting as I upgraded and did not do a fresh install. Looks this is a Linux kernel (2.6.35) problem. I'm not able to find Marvell drivers to install. Not keen on going back to 10.04 either. When running “lspci” I find the 88SE6121 both for 2.6.32-25.44 and 2.6.35-22.35. I have attached “dmesg” for both runs (in the same file). Disks on DriveXpert are recognised when running 2.6.32 but there are no reference to that controller when running 2.6.35. [Bug 634624] Re: Suspend/Hibernate fails / not available in Maverick Beta
Hello, In Ubuntu, pm-utils is responsible for getting the system into a state where it can be suspended or hibernated, and handling any cleanup after resume. So it definitely has to be installed on your system for suspend/hibernate to work. I have it installed on my machine, that first was a Maverick beta and then was upgraded to the final release. So the problem sounds like a bad installation on your machine. Perhaps something went wrong during the installation/upgrade, or the media you used had defects. I'll mark this issue as invalid, because It seems not possible for you to perform the installation again and get to the same state. So this problem is not going to be reproducible and the developers are not going to be able to get the information they required to fix it. However, if you or someone else manage to install the system again and it doesn't have pm-utils, it will be really useful for us if you reopen the bug and add any information you might find useful. [Bug 666049] Re: the search function with nautilus does not work properly with Ubuntu 10.10
When you do a search it searched in the directory you were in when you hit the search button. For example if I open nautilus and go to the /bin folder and search for skype, it will be searching for files with the word skype in the /bin folder. The search will not go into any other folder like /etc , /home , /lib. It *can* search into other folders located within /bin though. [Bug 624043] Re: Avahi needs to be restarted after boot to broadcast netatalk services
Hi All, Trent Lloyd here - one of the authors of the Avahi project The cause of this situation is relatively simple, in all cases I have seen it is caused by a faulty network driver. You will find after you restart Avahi - services work for a few minutes and then they fail again - here is the cause = When Avahi starts, it broadcasts out to the network services exists = Machines discover the service and add it to the list of available services = Once it nears the expiry time, a query is sent out for the services = No response is received, because multicast functionality in the network card driver is broken.. multicast queries never reach the avahi daemon = Avahi detects this as a Passive observation of failure and removes the services from the service list (Mac OS X Bonjour does the same) The fix is to get a different network card with a working driver support for multicast - or fix the network card driver - it would be useful to post your lspci outputs to the issue to identify what kind of network cards you have and mention which one it is (ethernet or wireless) Is most common on wireless but does occur on some ethernet drivers as well. -- Avahi needs to be restarted after boot to broadcast netatalk services https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/624043 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi Thanks for taking the time to check with me. The neglected system was an older machine that I was trying to update for my grand daughter. It has been decided now to reload the netbook with Meerkat. So due to Jaunty now being unsupported Please close this bug. Thank you again On Thu, Oct 21, 2010 at 5:39 PM, Clint Byrum cl...@fewbar.com wrote: Hi Peter, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help us make Ubuntu better! Can you elaborate a bit more on updating a neglected system. What we need is information to help reproduce this problem. Given that jaunty support will be ended in 3 days, its hard to justify much effort to reproduce the issue, but maybe if you can show the exact sequence that led to this situation, we can reproduce on newer supported releases and fix the issue. [Bug 657509] Re: DRM: Invalid EDID Checksum - External Monitor DVI -D not recognized by Kernel / Intel Graphisc Driver
It seems that the VGA connections does not work properly either. Maybe this is a separate problem, maybe not? When trying to attach a 1600x1200 Samsung SyncMaster 204Ts i get: Oct 25 09:15:48 legato kernel: [ 179.148134] i915 :00:02.0: VGA-1: EDID block 0 invalid. I can only choose from some low resolutions, not the 1600x1200. When connecting this panel to the DisplayPort (trough the DP to dual- link DVI adapter), i get again: Oct 25 09:28:11 legato kernel: [ 920.293647] i915 :00:02.0: DisplayPort-2: EDID block 2 invalid. So not exactly the same message about an invalid checksum that I get when I connect the 2560x1600 panel, but I assume related to the same bug. -- DRM: Invalid EDID Checksum - External Monitor DVI -D not recognized by Kernel / Intel Graphisc Driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657509 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 665045] Re: Logout, Restart and Shutdown actions not working in Kubuntu Lucid Lynx
yes, as I've written I can reboot from the terminal, but the workaround is not satisfactory, since in this way I loose the current session (which I can't save even using dbus). On Sat, Oct 23, 2010 at 5:28 PM, Fabio Marconi marconifa...@ubuntu-it.orgwrote: Hello Have you tried to rebbot from terminal? sudo reboot Fabio -- Logout, Restart and Shutdown actions not working in Kubuntu Lucid Lynx https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/665045 You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. Status in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This could seem similar to bug #250506, but I suspect it's actually different, since in that only shutdown and restart didn't work, and here instead it's impossible to logout. On Ubuntu (kubuntu) Lucid Lynx 10.04.1 LTS amd64 (installed from scratch, and kept updated), the Logout, Restart and Shudown buttons from the Leave menu don't produce any visible effect. The confirmation dialog doesn't appear and the logout/reboot/shutdown doesn't happen. I've tried to disable notification sounds, disabling also the logout notification sound, and all possible combinations with no results. I've also tried to disable the confirmation dialog in the system preferences, but the system doesn't logout (or restart/shutdown). I've tried to use the shutdown applet from the task bar, but even that does nothing. Disabling/enabling compiz (with Alt+Shift+F12) doesn't change anything. (For a short period of time, after the installation, everything worked fine, then for no apparent reason the menu buttons stopped working.) The only way I can shutdown/restart is through the command line. I've tried without success to save the session before rebooting from the command line, using: $ dbus-send --dest=org.kde.ksmserver /KSMServer org.kde.KSMServerInterface.saveCurrentSession $ sudo shutdown -r now but at the subsequent boot the ancient session from the last time Restart worked is restored. For the record, I'm using a hand-written /etc/X11/xorg.conf (since I'm using three monitors on two cards), but I don't think this can be related, since also the last times it worked I had the same setup. Please let me know if I can provide further details.
