[Bug 700347] [NEW] Does Files, Folders and Documents need to be a distinct chapter
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xubuntu-docs As the files-and-docs.xml file appears now, it only provides links to other sections in the documentation and does not provide any unique substantial information. The file is formatted as a chapter and when it is rendered in yelp or in a browser, it gives the impression that Files, Folders and Documents will be a substantive chapter, I felt misled upon reading it and only discovering links to other chapters/sections. Perhaps files-and-docs.xml could be integrated could into another chapter/section, since it is curt. ** Affects: xubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: lucid maverick natty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/700347 Title: Does Files, Folders and Documents need to be a distinct chapter -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: When logging in ubuntu natty 11.04 alpha1 (with both unity and the classic Desktop (gnome-panel)), the desktop background is showing normally but there are no launcher, no files and no display of the mounted disk,as one would normally expect (see attached screenshot). [Bug 294977] Re: not clear how to configure with pam-auth-update
The common-account created by pam-auth-update when configuring for cached credentials is failing on my stock Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 install. The common-account created by pam-auth-update is: # here are the per-package modules (the Primary block) account [success=2 new_authtok_reqd=done default=ignore]pam_unix.so account [success=1 default=ignore] pam_ldap.so # here's the fallback if no module succeeds account requisite pam_deny.so # prime the stack with a positive return value if there isn't one already; # this avoids us returning an error just because nothing sets a success code # since the modules above will each just jump around account requiredpam_permit.so # and here are more per-package modules (the Additional block) account requiredpam_krb5.so minimum_uid=1000 # end of pam-auth-update config However, this fails because neither pam_unix.so nor pam_ldap.so can succeed when the machine is offline. This makes all offline logins fail: u...@host:~$ sudo login user Password: You have been logged on using cached credentials. Authentication failure u...@host:~$ If using cached-credentials, common-account needs to be adapted to ignore failures against pam_unix and if the ldap server cannot be reached. My proposed amendment is to amend the criteria for success to the pam_ldap module to: account [success=1 authinfo_unavail=1 default=ignore] pam_ldap.so This should ensure that the module passes if the LDAP server is unavailable. A better solution would be to implement the account method for pam_ccreds, which would allow differentiation between a machine that's online but unable to reach the LDAP server, versus a machine that's genuinely offline and relying on cached credentials. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294977 Title: not clear how to configure with pam-auth-update -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just got around to checking this out. Thank you. Your response is correct. I had been compiling grub 0.98 for use on an embedded system and must have mistakenly installed to the boot drive of the laptop. Reinstall Grub2 solved the problem. I have moved up to using Grub2 so if I make this mistake in the future.. Thanks again. Selected the default 'N' to not create the file. Your bug report shows that this system was initially installed as Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, which uses grub2 by default, but that you have subsequently removed the grub2 package in favor of grub1 without configuring it. Saying 'N' here means that you are declining to configure it, leaving your system with no way to update a boot loader config for the newly- installed kernel. You need to have a configured bootloader, either by configuring grub1 here or by reinstalling grub2 with the following command: 'sudo apt-get install grub-pc'. (The correct default answer to the grub prompt is 'no' because there are other steps you must take to configure the bootloader - such as making sure that the corresponding version of grub is installed to the actual boot block of your boot device.) ** Changed in: grub (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a direct subscriber of the bug. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/694886 Title: package linux-image-2.6.32-27-generic 2.6.32-27.49 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Status in “grub” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: grub Was prompted about a missing /boot/grub/menu.lst. [Bug 613303] Re: Zim Desktop Wiki description is confusing
Hi Jaap, what do you think of the following? I've written it to contain the word 'wiki' while briefly describing how a wiki works for those user unfamiliar with the term. Zim is a graphical text editor which allows the user to maintain a collection of wiki-style interconnected notes. The text of each note can have certain important keywords highlighted with a link that provides a connection to another note named after the highlighted text. This new note can provide details on the meaning of the highlighted text, and can even contain links of its own. . Uses of Zim include: • TODO lists • Taking notes during meetings • Drafting blog entries and emails • Brainstorming -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/613303 Title: Zim Desktop Wiki description is confusing -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 700378] [NEW] Unable to mount root ext4 filesystem - kernel oops
Public bug reported: This bug report was taken from the 10.10 live cd as I can no longer boot my system. One morning when turning on my system it was suddenly unable to boot past the initram filesystem. When the scripts attempted to mount the root ext4 filesystem there was a kernel oops with the ext4 functions listed in the stack trace. When booting from the live cd it also attempts to access the partition (and I don't know how to stop it). I get the stack trace as show in the attached report (with __percpu__counter_sum in EIP). At this point I cannot do anything the that partition because all the tools report that it is locked or in use (e.g. fsck, mount etc). I tried booting from ubuntu 8.something and got a similar kernel panic as 10.10. I also tried a Mandriva live CD from 2008 and got similar. At this stage it seems I am unable to repair as everything kernel panics and I can't see how I will re-install because by the time the live cd gets to the partitioning stage it's already done this panic. This is actually my dad's PC so I have only sporadic access so if there is more I need to investigate it might not be a fast turnaround. [Bug 671457] Re: Hard freeze on resume after suspend to ram, Atom D525
This bug is not distribution-specific I see the same problem with various kernels on the ga-d525-tud booting a gentoo system. Kernels I tested included 2.6.35,2.6.36 and 2.6.37 (all directly from kernel.org). I always tried to suspend with no drivers loaded and insided the shell of an initial ram disk. I had the same problems: kernel panic on resume, nothing from debug traces. The problem is the same either on bios-version f1 which I had before and on Version f3 which I flashed just now. I am running the system via serial console too, which has so far not helped, sadly. I found another reference to this problem on: http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-pm/msg22828.html Any hint is welcome. [Bug 587601] Re: No Logon screen after 'switching user', only an Ubuntu logo and the computers name
Ok, I got my gdm stable again. = in the /etc/gdm/custom.conf I added in the past manually some settings. More specific, I added two parameters: IncludeAll=false Include=user1,user2,user3 (where user1,... where the users I wanted to be used by gdm to show in the login screen). At some point there was an issue in gdm that is was showing all users on the login screen. Apparently this got fixed at some point. I now excluded these two setting and now gdm is stable again. The issue is no longer happening. I can now run again Ubuntu for weeks without rebooting and having multiple users using it. In itself this issue is solved. If some developer wants, he can of course investigate further why gdm could become instable when these two settings are used. enjoy, Walter -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/587601 Title: No Logon screen after 'switching user', only an Ubuntu logo and the computers name -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
