Thank you all for your reply's. I didn't have time to test the upstream
kernel, but I did try what Ben suggested: update the bios. I don't know
how I haven't noticed this before when searching for a solution to the
fan-issue. I updated the bios to the 1.43 version and as a positive
surprise

Setting the executive bit for files on devices needs that the exec flag is set
by mounting the device. Otherwise using chmod command dos'nt work and can not
set the execution right to the file.

To fix that and not loose settings use HistoryMaster addon.
Set pick list to 0, Apply.
Next set pick list to 10, Apply.
And done, recent list is back.
