three days the version requested by Grib must be minimal 4.0.1

I found a way to work around the issue:
$ xrandr --addmode VGA1 1280x1024
$ xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1280x1024
but I have to do this after every reboot which is not a good solution. I also
found out that EDID information is not detected correctly by the i915 drm

I have just installed XUbuntu 12.04 on an Asus G55VW and have the same
problem. None of the current work arounds of setting boot params or
changing xorg.conf have fixed the issue for me.

trying to directly manipulate /sys/class/backlight ... I have tried
adding Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1 and
changing the kernel boot params but with no success.

gammu source ships with personal information. I have informed the person
to contact upstream about the shipping file, but if we could remove this
as requested by the person, that would be swell

When the screen goes off because the system is idle, it does not resume
back, it just stays black. Only way of getting the system back is
restarting lightdm and logging in again.
