[Bug 669808] Re: Nagios3 checks not scheduled after clocks change from DST

2012-10-29 Thread jon
Another daylight savings change has just happened, and once again our
Nagios monitoring system silently failed to run any checks after the
change, needing to be restarted.

Why does nobody out there care that the repositories for an LTS release
of Ubuntu STILL only offer the same buggy version of Nagios (3.2.0) -
They are up to 3.4.1 now and the bug was fixed a LONG time ago!!

Clearly LTS means absolutely NOTHING whatsoever.

[Bug 1072813] [NEW] puppetd hangs/slow downs - already fixed in upstream

2012-10-29 Thread Markus Peter
Public bug reported:

A bug in puppet, which was already fixed upstream in 2.7.11, can cause
occasional hangs in one-time mode and slow downs in general, caused by a
bug in the file
lib/puppet/util/instrumentation/listeners/process_name.rb

Upstream bugs describing the problem
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/12588 and
http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/12310 lead to a fix in 2.7.11: The
file was simply removed from puppet 2.7.11 as it was only an example for
a new API anyway.

Unfortunately, the Debian/Ubuntu puppet distribution still contains the
file, as patches/debian-changes re-adds the file. I suppose this was
simply a small mistake during the merge of the upstream release.

The file should be removed from the Debian/Ubuntu puppet distribution to
fix the mentioned problems.

[Bug 1072899] [NEW] vpn dns server addresses - host lookups fail if first server is not reachable

2012-10-29 Thread Glenn Coombs
Public bug reported:

I tried to report this bug using ubuntu-bug dnsmasq-base but that
process repeatably crashes :-( I've filed a separate bug report on that
issue but therefore there is no information automatically appended. The
output of lsb_release -a is:

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04
Codename: precise

and I am happy to append any further information that may be required.

I connect to my work network via VPN. The config has been working well but
stopped working recently. The symptoms were that the VPN connection still
succeeded but that DNS lookups of machines on the VPN failed. I have these
lines in the syslog:

Oct 29 20:47:11 mini NetworkManager[1071]: info Internal IP4 DNS:
192.168.15.221
Oct 29 20:47:11 mini NetworkManager[1071]: info Internal IP4 DNS:
192.168.5.221
Oct 29 20:47:11 mini NetworkManager[1071]: info DNS Domain: 'kl.imgtec.org'

which shows that 2 DNS servers were reported when the VPN connection was
established. If I attempt to lookup the IP address of my machine:

% host glenn.kl.imgtec.org
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

then it times out. If I tell it to use the second server:

$ host glenn.kl.imgtec.org 192.168.5.221
Using domain server:
Name: 192.168.5.221
Address: 192.168.5.221#53
Aliases:

glenn.kl.imgtec.org has address 192.168.17.88

then it works as expected. It seems that the 15.221 server is down (I
cannot ping it) but the 5.221 server is fine. I would have expected the
DNS lookup to fall back to the second server when it failed to receive a
reply from the first server instead of just giving up.

The nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf file only shows information relating to the 1st
server - it seems to have totally ignored the 2nd server:

$ cat /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf
server=/kl.imgtec.org/192.168.15.221
server=/79.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221
server=/200.9.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221

Auto-update is disabled in the ubuntu downstream package which is just a
wrapper (script to download the dropbox client from upstream). You'll
have to do gksudo dropbox update in a terminal or Alt+F2 to get the
latest release. I did it and it is working very well.

[Bug 1068555] Re: Quantal upgrade says no package named `libjbig0' is installed, cannot configure

2012-10-29 Thread Andre
@Mike: you have obviously problems with other packages in your system
too. Can you please try to uninstall 'libqtgui4:i386' and/or
'libtiff4:i386'? This will at least reveal the packages which triggered
the installation of them. (I suspect a proprietary application, e.g.
game.) Don't necessarily execute the remove, just investigate what
packages are holding these problematic packages in your system.

[Bug 1063354] Re: Sudden Read-Only Filesystems

2012-10-29 Thread rybu
I'm having the same problem, on a Lenovo W530 running the 64-bit kernel.
Is there anything I could provide, or do you have all the information
you need? In a week of running 12.10 on my laptop 24-hours a day, this
has happened twice.

[Bug 988509] Re: setoption.pl is not executable

2012-10-29 Thread Javier P.L.
I don't know why it isn't available as .deb file in
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/pending-sru.html

I was unable to installed from -proposed, however I've downloaded the
patched version and rebuild it in a pbuilder environment, and then test
it in Ubuntu 12.04 and it works

$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS \n \l

$ zless /usr/share/doc/samba4/changelog.Debian.gz | head

+ Executable setoption script. LP: #988509
+ Create sysvol share if it is missing. LP: #930370

Not sure, what need to be done to move it to -proposed so more people
could be able to test it.

Have a nice day, and thank for the fix Jelmer

[Bug 1068662] Re: webapps are not working :(

2012-10-29 Thread Devin
Okay, good to know. What that means is that the
EditPreferencesGeneralDesktop Integration is another thing which
randomly appears (the other being some of the queries for installing
webapps that show up on sites sometimes only during page loads). In
fact, I just started up the preferences window several times, and the
first time the Desktop Integration was the first thing on the list of
General Preferences, the rest of the following times it was on the
bottom like in your picture, matachi. Already I mentioned that I also
have experienced no option for Desktop Integration, and the following
times after that computer session showed it normally. Now it is jumping
in different places; weird.

Re: [Bug 1070939] Re: Libreoffice- writer crashes at save command

2012-10-29 Thread Ibrahim-hammad
Dear Bryan,

Thank you.

I've just tried the same operation and all went well. I didn't face any
problem, noting that after the crash took place once I need to open any
Libreoffice document , even New document it will open a recovery window
then will open the new document. But this also had gone as well.

Thank you again, and appreciated.

[Bug 237941]

2012-10-29 Thread Fq-carlo
I can confirm this old bug in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:16.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/16.0
Yesterday I had a colleague of mine complaining about this lack-of-feature, so
I recalled this bug and noticed it had not been fixed. Regarding competitors:
Chrome behaves like Firefox, while Opera searches also for folder names. FX
should copy Opera's, IMHO.

[Bug 237941]

2012-10-29 Thread 2dmartin
The lack of this function, as well as the removal of names from
separators (long time ago - eg bug 404983) helps to keep Firefox's
handling of bookmarks firmly in the 'stone age'. I had not realised
that Opera searches on folder names. Pretty please, let Firefox do that
too!! Maybe even before this bug celebrates its 5th birthday?

[Bug 1085]

2012-10-29 Thread Abekonge
There are actually two extensions that provide this functionality in
different ways:

AddressContext
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/addresscontext/

RecipientBox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/recipientbox/

Unfortunately, they are both so outdated that AddressContext only works
for versions up to TB2 (although a user comments that (s)he was able to
get it to function for TB5 with a workaround), and RecipientBox has been
disabled by an administrator while only working for up to TB3.

In order to be able to use at least one of these great and very useful
extensions, I am still using TB3.

Will someone please incorporate this functionality into Thunderbird?

[Bug 1072578] [NEW] Network Manager: eth0 and ppp0 together do not work

2012-10-29 Thread pramathesh ambasta
Public bug reported:

I have set up a small LAN in our office. The LAN uses a switch to
connect computers, some of them Ubuntu desktops/laptops, with each other
to share files and printers.

The LAN switch is connected to a broadband router which acts as a
gateway to the internet for all machines connected to the LAN. So it is
possible in normal situations for computers on the LAN to connect to
each other *and* the internet without any problems.

Additionally, these Ubuntu desktops/laptops are also configured to
connect to the internet using a broadband USB modem when necessary. This
option is used in one of two situations:

1. If the laptop is out of office and therefore not connected to the LAN
2. If the broadband router collapses due to some technical snag and is unable
to offer any internet services.

It is situation 2 that I am bothered about. In this situation Network
Manager offers us the possibility of working either on the LAN or on the
internet via the USB modem but not both. So if you want to surf the web,
you have to disconnect from the LAN. If you want to use the LAN
resources you have to disconnect the USB modem.

This should not happen. I have installed wvdial and gnome-ppp on the
machines. By setting the defaultroute and replacedefaultroute options in
/etc/ppp/peers/wvdial-pipe and /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial and not setting any
DNS entry in the eth0 configuration, I am able to access both the LAN
resources and the internet. This is the way it should be.

In my view, Network Manager (or Modem Manager) is unable to replace the
default route when it connects. In my experience, this has been a long
standing problem in various Ubuntu releases ever since Network Manager
took over the network resources in lieu of /etc/networking/interfaces.

So my suggestion is that Ubuntu should use wvdial/gnome-ppp, take the
pain away from setting setuid permissions from wvdial and configure it
to replace the default route at the time of installation. Network
Manager could simply be a wrapper around wvdial to do this instead of
trying unsuccessfully to reinvent the wheel.

[Bug 1051665] Re: [USB-Audio - SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro, playback] Underruns, dropouts or crackling sound

2012-10-29 Thread Kirsanov Vitaliy
Yes, it does, I can control the sound volume. And, indeed, e.g. in alsa-
mixer I don't see any lever to influence my sound card.

But again, how is sound volume control connected with sound problems?
And what possible ways could be to solve the problem?

[Bug 1072580] [NEW] proxy with uppercase HTTP causes postinst to fail

2012-10-29 Thread Tobias
Public bug reported:

Line 39 in postinst script fails because it doesn't match
HTTP://corp-proxy:8080/
egrep -q 'https?://[[:alnum:]][-.[:alnum:]]+(:\d+)?/?' \

The fix is trivial. Just add -i on the line:
egrep -iq 'https?://[[:alnum:]][-.[:alnum:]]+(:\d+)?/?' \

and the script works again

[Bug 405340] Re: Conky background uses gtk_color_scheme's window background color, at random

2012-10-29 Thread ngc2997
This issues still seems to be around on Ubuntu 12.10 - conky would
randomly turn its background into some light grey. Most of the time this
happens shortly after logging into the desktop, with conky being
autostarted through a ~/.config/autostart entry. In very rare occasions
though, the grey background returns to normal after some time, without
any noticeable trigger.

Conky window is configured as:

own_window yes
own_window_type override
own_window_hints undecorated,below,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager

[Bug 517997] Re: grub update gets wrong UUID after disk change

2012-10-29 Thread Anthon
I got the same problem trying to add a 12.4 distribution to a working 9.10

I end up hand editing the grub.cfg file after running update-grub.
This is a nuisance as the machine is in basement some 500km away and I have to
call someone to change the default menu
entry of grub if the 12.4 doesn't boot again because of the wrong UUID.

[Bug 1019395] Re: At random times NM applet menu stops responding

2012-10-29 Thread Ryan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 930563 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/930563

Can confirm that this affects me as well (12.04 up to date as of today)

@matteosistisette I have been been launching nm-applet from the alt+F2
run dialog so that I don't have to keep a terminal open, give that a
try.

2012-10-29 Thread Karma Dorje
peshte, do not hijack this bug, start a new bug. I dont' want to be rude, but
this isn't a support forum.
If you need support you can open the new bug or ask help in
https://answers.launchpad.net/. It may be that there is already an answer to
your question.

[Bug 1019621] Re: Abiword flickers hard when scrolling (regression)

2012-10-29 Thread Julien Lavergne
I backported abiword package from quantal to precise, you can test it to see if
the result is better. It's available in Lubuntu Devs staging PPA :
https://launchpad.net/~lubuntu-dev/+archive/staging
I'm not sure it will be suitable for a SRU, but if we can confirmed that the
new version is working on precise, that would be nice.

[Bug 1071288] Re: No multiple monitors

2012-10-29 Thread Berend De Schouwer
I've found a probable cause.

xrandr won't enable LVDS1 unless VGA1 is off. So I have to plug in
VGA1, and then run:

xrandr --output VGA1 --off
xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1366x768
xrandr --output VGA1 --auto
xrandr --output VGA1 --primary

I have to turn VGA1 off, then I can turn LVDS1 on, and then VGA1 on.

The xrandr error message is cannot find crtc for output LVDS1

A bit of googling shows that this happens to more people, with different
video cards, on all sorts of versions, with all sorts of Linux
distributions.

Possibly related, possibly off-topic: I make VGA1 the primary display,
because if I don't I can't resize beyond a certain size even though VGA1
is 1920x1080. This may be because VGA1's resolution is higher, and
windows are stuck on LVDS1's size.
