[Bug 1072813] [NEW] puppetd hangs/slow downs - already fixed in upstream
Public bug reported: A bug in puppet, which was already fixed upstream in 2.7.11, can cause occasional hangs in one-time mode and slow downs in general, caused by a bug in the file lib/puppet/util/instrumentation/listeners/process_name.rb Upstream bugs describing the problem http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/12588 and http://projects.puppetlabs.com/issues/12310 lead to a fix in 2.7.11: The file was simply removed from puppet 2.7.11 as it was only an example for a new API anyway. Unfortunately, the Debian/Ubuntu puppet distribution still contains the file, as patches/debian-changes re-adds the file. I suppose this was simply a small mistake during the merge of the upstream release. The file should be removed from the Debian/Ubuntu puppet distribution to fix the mentioned problems. [Bug 1072899] [NEW] vpn dns server addresses - host lookups fail if first server is not reachable
Public bug reported: I tried to report this bug using ubuntu-bug dnsmasq-base but that process repeatably crashes :-( I've filed a separate bug report on that issue but therefore there is no information automatically appended. The output of lsb_release -a is: No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS Release:12.04 Codename: precise and I am happy to append any further information that may be required. I connect to my work network via VPN. The config has been working well but stopped working recently. The symptoms were that the VPN connection still succeeded but that DNS lookups of machines on the VPN failed. I have these lines in the syslog: Oct 29 20:47:11 mini NetworkManager[1071]: info Internal IP4 DNS: 192.168.15.221 Oct 29 20:47:11 mini NetworkManager[1071]: info Internal IP4 DNS: 192.168.5.221 Oct 29 20:47:11 mini NetworkManager[1071]: info DNS Domain: 'kl.imgtec.org' which shows that 2 DNS servers were reported when the VPN connection was established. If I attempt to lookup the IP address of my machine: % host glenn.kl.imgtec.org ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached then it times out. If I tell it to use the second server: $ host glenn.kl.imgtec.org 192.168.5.221 Using domain server: Name: 192.168.5.221 Address: 192.168.5.221#53 Aliases: glenn.kl.imgtec.org has address 192.168.17.88 then it works as expected. It seems that the 15.221 server is down (I cannot ping it) but the 5.221 server is fine. I would have expected the DNS lookup to fall back to the second server when it failed to receive a reply from the first server instead of just giving up. The nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf file only shows information relating to the 1st server - it seems to have totally ignored the 2nd server: $ cat /var/run/nm-dns-dnsmasq.conf server=/kl.imgtec.org/192.168.15.221 server=/79.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 server=/200.9.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 server=/5.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 server=/6.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 server=/7.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 server=/14.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 server=/15.168.192.in-addr.arpa/192.168.15.221 -- Glenn ** Affects: dnsmasq (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: dns vpn -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072899 Title: vpn dns server addresses - host lookups fail if first server is not reachable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/1072899/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1068662] Re: webapps are not working :(
Okay, good to know. What that means is that the EditPreferencesGeneralDesktop Integration is another thing which randomly appears (the other being some of the queries for installing webapps that show up on sites sometimes only during page loads). In fact, I just started up the preferences window several times, and the first time the Desktop Integration was the first thing on the list of General Preferences, the rest of the following times it was on the bottom like in your picture, matachi. Already I mentioned that I also have experienced no option for Desktop Integration, and the following times after that computer session showed it normally. Now it is jumping in different places; weird. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068662 Title: webapps are not working :( To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-chromium-extension/+bug/1068662/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I had not realised that Opera searches on folder names. Pretty please, let Firefox do that too!! [Bug 1085]
There are actually two extensions that provide this functionality in different ways: AddressContext https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/addresscontext/ RecipientBox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/recipientbox/ Unfortunately, they are both so outdated that AddressContext only works for versions up to TB2 (although a user comments that (s)he was able to get it to function for TB5 with a workaround), and RecipientBox has been disabled by an administrator while only working for up to TB3. In order to be able to use at least one of these great and very useful extensions, I am still using TB3. [Bug 1072578] [NEW] Network Manager: eth0 and ppp0 together do not work
Public bug reported: I have set up a small LAN in our office. The LAN uses a switch to connect computers, some of them Ubuntu desktops/laptops, with each other to share files and printers. The LAN switch is connected to a broadband router which acts as a gateway to the internet for all machines connected to the LAN. So it is possible in normal situations for computers on the LAN to connect to each other *and* the internet without any problems. Additionally, these Ubuntu desktops/laptops are also configured to connect to the internet using a broadband USB modem when necessary. This option is used in one of two situations: 1. If the laptop is out of office and therefore not connected to the LAN 2. If the broadband router collapses due to some technical snag and is unable to offer any internet services. It is situation 2 that I am bothered about. In this situation Network Manager offers us the possibility of working either on the LAN or on the internet via the USB modem but not both. So if you want to surf the web, you have to disconnect from the LAN. If you want to use the LAN resources you have to disconnect the USB modem. This should not happen. I have installed wvdial and gnome-ppp on the machines. By setting the defaultroute and replacedefaultroute options in /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial-pipe and /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial and not setting any DNS entry in the eth0 configuration, I am able to access both the LAN resources and the internet. This is the way it should be. In my view, Network Manager (or Modem Manager) is unable to replace the default route when it connects. In my experience, this has been a long standing problem in various Ubuntu releases ever since Network Manager took over the network resources in lieu of /etc/networking/interfaces. So my suggestion is that Ubuntu should use wvdial/gnome-ppp, take the pain away from setting setuid permissions from wvdial and configure it to replace the default route at the time of installation. Network Manager could simply be a wrapper around wvdial to do this instead of trying unsuccessfully to reinvent the wheel. [Bug 1071288] Re: No multiple monitors
I've found a probable cause. xrandr won't enable LVDS1 unless VGA1 is off. So I have to plug in VGA1, and then run: xrandr --output VGA1 --off xrandr --output LVDS1 --mode 1366x768 xrandr --output VGA1 --auto xrandr --output VGA1 --primary I have to turn VGA1 off, then I can turn LVDS1 on, and then VGA1 on. The xrandr error message is cannot find crtc for output LVDS1 A bit of googling shows that this happens to more people, with different video cards, on all sorts of versions, with all sorts of Linux distributions. Possibly related, possibly off-topic: I make VGA1 the primary display, because if I don't I can't resize beyond a certain size even though VGA1 is 1920x1080. This may be because VGA1's resolution is higher, and windows are stuck on LVDS1's size. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071288 Title: No multiple monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1071288/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
