[Bug 1584042] Re: IPV6 resolving fails via udp (not tcp) from other server

2016-05-22 Thread Frédéric Druilhet
Just to add a point about how I noticed the bug. It as one important
information.
I have 3 nameservers, all ipv6/4. No particular problem.
Problem occurred when I added a 4th Ubuntu server. This one installs fine as I
set ip IPv4 first with the 3 nameservers ipv4 address. But, when I added the
ipv6 interface, and all 3 nameservers with their ipv6 address, it failed. I
spent a lot of time checking network, Ipv6, reinstalling Ubuntu till I end up
notifying that as a real bug.

In fact, adding 3 ipv6 nameservers address changes the resolv.conf and the 3
nameservers stack is filled with ipv6 adresses. So, it leads to a non
responding resolution.
I made some tests on my nameservers and noticed that they are in the same setup
but, and thats the important discovery, they get a response with ipv6 when then
request themselves. Server1 doesn't get a response from server2 et 3, but it
does with server1. That's one I didn't noticed the bug because each nameserver
has it's own address in the resolv.conf so requests end with responding

To Bypass the bug, each interface has only ipv4 nameserver addresses
except on each nameserver where I left it's own ipv6 address in the
interface setup

[Bug 1584407] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS --> Kernal --> ACPI Errors: Namespace lookup failure and 1 table load failures

2016-05-22 Thread SunBear
Christoper,

I reviewed my syslog concerning all Kernel-->ACPI logs via:
cat /var/log/syslog | grep kernel | grep ACPI

I have 2 questions and hope you can help me understand:

1. ACPI loaded the 8 SSDT tables. I assume these equate to the ssdt1.dat
to ssdt8.dat files obtained from acpidump. However, ssdt9.dat to
ssdt12.dat were not shown to be loaded. Why did it not report 4 table
load failures but 1 in the ACPI Error? Below are the relevant tables
reported in my syslogs?

[Bug 1584575] [NEW] /lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service file has no [Install] clause

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Public bug reported:

This concerns lightdm 1.18.1-0ubuntu1 in Xenial.

The /lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service file lacks an [Install] clause.
Meaning, that if you do

# systemctl disable display-manager

to prevent LightDM from starting, running

# systemctl enable lightdm

does not restore the /etc/systemd/system/display-manager.service
symlink, and thus does not re-enable LightDM to run at the next boot as
intended.

[Bug 1564219] Re: Ubuntu Xenial Installer hangs after a couple of minutes on Gigabyte MP30-AR0 (APM X-Gene 1)

2016-05-22 Thread Ronald Maas
Successfully able to install and start Ubuntu 16.04 on the MP30-AR0
board using the following work-around. Note a serial console is
required:

1) After starting the installer using UEFI shell command
FS1:\EFI\BOOT\BOOTAA64.EFI, select 'Install' menu item and click 'e' to
invoke the Grub editor

2) Change the Grub menu entry:

setparams 'Install'

set background_color=black
linux/linux acpi=off clk_ignore_unused console=ttyS0,115200 --- quiet
clk_ignore_unused console=ttyS0,115200
initrd /initrd.gz

3) Type Ctrl-X to boot the kernel and start the installation process

4) After the installation completes, reboot the system. Now UEFI should
automatically boot the kernel, and after a few error messages, the
familiar Linux logon prompt should appear

[Bug 1583088] Re: Randomly corrupt characters in text rendering, mainly in Unity8 window titlebars

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It's only certain characters that are sometimes corrupt. So it's the
typography renderer at fault and not the shell.

Here's a pair of screenshots showing the glyph '4' is corrupt for me
today, and what it looks like when the clock changes from '11:43' to
'11:44'.

And a completely different screenshot of the same bug. Here it's kind of
more obvious that the glyph renderer is using an incorrect buffer
stride/width.

[Bug 1510386] Re: RGBX windows become discoloured (more white or translucent) and corrupt in the Unity8 window switcher

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Any window with a non-1.0 (less than 0xff) alpha or X channel gets discoloured
when alt+tabbing:
  mir_demo_client_egltriangle -b 0.2 -- --desktop_file_hint=unity8

And you have to keep in mind that the 'X' byte might be uninitialized, so
another good test case is:
Xmir :0 -rootless -flatten -sw --desktop_file_hint=unity8
  env DISPLAY=:0 gedit
and then Alt+Tab.

Observed: Parts of the window in the switcher are discoloured/whiter. This is
Unity8 treating the uninitialized X byte as an alpha byte. Although even RGBA
windows get discoloured with low values of A.
Observed: In the background the fullscreen blur is also faulty -- it's clearer
and not blurred in the same regions as are affected by the first issue.

[Bug 1584407] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 LTS --> Kernal --> ACPI Errors: Namespace lookup failure and 1 table load failures

2016-05-22 Thread SunBear
Christopher,

I have updated the bios with Z170M-PLUS-ASUS-1803.CAP.
$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
1803
05/09/2016

The same ACPI failures still appears in my syslog. See below. Thus, the
updated bios did not fix the failures/bugs.

May 23 10:43:10 Eliot kernel: [0.22] ACPI: Core revision 20150930
May 23 10:43:10 Eliot kernel: [0.017217] ACPI Error:

(20150930/dswload-210)
May 23 10:43:10 Eliot kernel: [0.017220] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND,
During name lookup/catalog (20150930/psobject-227)
May 23 10:43:10 Eliot kernel: [0.017248] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND,
(SSDT:xh_rvp08) while loading table (20150930/tbxfload-193)
May 23 10:43:10 Eliot kernel: [0.022535] ACPI Error: 1 table load failures,
8 successful (20150930/tbxfload-214)

I ran the same acpidump commands and got the same findings, other than
ssdt6.dat now contains the instructions to return information
concerning the USB Port Capabilities _UPC and Physical Location of
Device _PLD of \_SB.PCI0.XHC.RHUB.HS11 instead of ssdt5.dat and there
are now 12 ssdt files instead of 7.

Like to clarify that I created a new report because I was asked to.

What is the next course of action to fix this issue?

[Bug 1258245] Re: syslog user can't write to serial or terminal devices

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Generalized the title to include terminal devices (e.g. Linux virtual
terminals) as well.

I'd like to see a better way to set this up. Yes, you can add the syslog
user to the dialout and/or tty groups, but that grants access to *all*
serial/terminal devices respectively. This can have security
consequences if the syslog user is compromised, given that serial
devices can include modems, and terminal devices would encompass tty-
mode user login sessions.

The current situation is particularly awkward because
/etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf contains a commented-out rule that
directs logging to tty8. No mention is made of any permission issues. I
wanted to do basically that, and was puzzled for a few minutes as to why
nothing was appearing on the configured virtual terminal.

** Summary changed:

- syslog user can't write to /dev/ttyS0
+ syslog user can't write to serial or terminal devices

[Bug 1582471] Re: Add focus/unfocus event passing for Xmir non-rootless mode

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
"Windows" losing focus is seemingly not a sensible problem to worry
about.

In windowing/desktop mode you are expected to have a physical keyboard.
So there is no OSK that should ever be displayed. And no OSK to hide.

In phablet touch mode, you do occasionally need an OSK. But we SIGSTOP
apps when they lose focus, so telling the app it has lost focus in
pointless -- it's frozen and will never notice it lost focus until it
regains focus and gets unfrozen (SIGCONT).

[Bug 1582471] Re: Add focus/unfocus event passing for Xmir non-rootless mode

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unless... opening the switcher means an app loses focus before it
gets SIGSTOP'd. Then the request is plausible, but still not sensible.
Not sensible because the Unity8 shell should be smart enough to
automatically hide the OSK when the switcher opens.

I don't yet see any logical way forward for this enhancement request.
It's either useless or should be implemented by Unity8 itself.

[Bug 1564219] Re: Ubuntu Xenial Installer hangs after a couple of minutes on Gigabyte MP30-AR0 (APM X-Gene 1)

2016-05-22 Thread Ronald Maas
I tested with latest Xenial arm64 Mini ISO from http://ports.ubuntu.com
/ubuntu-ports/dists/xenial/main/installer-
arm64/current/images/netboot/mini.iso (dated 20-Apr-2016) and the same
issue occurs again. Freeze occurs roughly 1 - 10 seconds after I started
the installer.

When I passed kernel parameter acpi=off, this seems to resolve the
freeze issue. Together with kernel parameters console=ttyS0,115200 and
clk_ignore_unused I was able to finish the complete installation
procedure.

[Bug 1564216] Re: USB keyboard is not working in Ubuntu Xenial installer for Gigabyte MP30-AR0 (APM X-Gene 1)

2016-05-22 Thread Ronald Maas
I tested with latest Xenial arm64 Mini ISO from http://ports.ubuntu.com
/ubuntu-ports/dists/xenial/main/installer-
arm64/current/images/netboot/mini.iso (dated 20-Apr-2016) and USB
keyboard was not working.

Is there a more recent arm64 ISO available which I can test?

[Bug 1497105] Re: Clients can't get high resolution input in Unity8

2016-05-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Yes, I think in the long run we want raw input being passed to clients
and then to rely on the toolkits to do the right thing.

However I won't flick that switch until Qt's input resampling is usable
for us. That might be possible after we do frame notification, and have
more accurate and steady frame timing independent of nesting.

I have only just discovered this bug report after going around this loop
again 4 years later in 2016 with a Garmin GPS 96. The Gpsbabel support
team were not happy Linux distribution were still going out with this
problem in their hotplug. They claim its been a source of constant
support demands on them to provide patches and work arounds for the last
10 years.

In order to use the discrete GPU, in Xenial you can prefix any command with
`DRI_PRIME=1`. However, with this device, doing this crashes the device.

I tried installing a backported kernel that Alberto provided [2] and
even though the computer does not crash anymore, it still won't show
anything (but the process launched will take 100% of the CPU and cannot
be stopped nor killed, it looks...).

I tried with the following commands:

  glxinfo
  glxgears
  DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo
  DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears

Once, I managed to get some output from the `glxinfo` command, with and
  without `DRI_PRIME=1` prefix:

  $ glxinfo | grep -i "opengl"
  OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD KAVERI (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.10
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
  OpenGL core profile extensions:
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.30
  OpenGL context flags: (none)
  OpenGL extensions:
OpenGL ES profile version string: OpenGL ES 3.0 Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL ES profile shading language version string: OpenGL ES GLSL ES 3.00
  OpenGL ES profile extensions:

  $ DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep -i "opengl"
  OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD ICELAND (DRM 3.1.0, LLVM 3.8.0)
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 11.2.0
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.10
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile

So it looks like the discrete GPU is used, but so far I couldn't really
use it to run anything 3D-demanding.

Attached is a Zip with a lot of logs, hope this will help!

[Bug 1584089] Re: Segfault of __thread varaible in Linux/ARM due to bug of LLVM ARM code generation

2016-05-22 Thread Geunsik Lim
https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=27836

** Bug watch added: LLVM #27836
   https://llvm.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=27836

** Description changed:

There are four thread local storage (TLS) models in Clang/LLVM as following:
  1) global-dynamic TLS model
  2) local-dynamic TLS model
  3) local-exec TLS model
  4) initial-execTLS model
and emulated-TLS (for Android S/W platform)??

Even though, We can build run normally with the static relocation method
by selecting the initial-exec TLS model instead of global-dynamic TLS
model (by default) , We need to run the clang application code with
global-dynamic (or local-dynamic) TLS model in order that we support
some applications is working with dlopen(3) library call.

We have found the appropriate solution for some clang/LLVM applications
including 1) __thread variables and 2) -O2/-O3 of the clang language.
Could you apply this patch to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
  repository?

[Bug 1584557] [NEW] Seagate external drive causes SCSI bus resets when UAS enabled

2016-05-22 Thread Ian Turner
Public bug reported:

Seagate STEA1000400 external USB hard disk (USB ID 0bc2:2322) causes

[Bug 1570335] Re: MusicBrainz integration

2016-05-22 Thread James Henstridge
I'm not sure how well MusicBrainz would work at taking the existing
file's metadata tags and improve them. When I've updated my own music
using Picard, to get good results I've had to pass it a collection of
music that is part of the same album and occasionally choose something
other than its first guess. I'm inclined to use the tags in a file as
is if they're available and just tell users to update the files tags if
they think they're wrong.

We don't want a system where the mediascanner "corrects" the tags to the
wrong release and the user can't fix it.

On the other hand, if we have a file with no metadata tags at all,
perhaps it'd make sense to make use of their AcoustID muisc
fingerprinting system to look up metadata. I'm not sure how common this
scenario is though, or how likely we are to get a useful match though.

When I looked into this kind of thing 4-5 years ago, the open source
services weren't anywhere close to commercial services like EchoNest
(which has since been bought out by Spotify). Things might have changed
since then though. I think MusicBrainz was on a different
fingerprinting system back then, for instance.
