[Bug 1634005] [NEW] linux treats first partition on sdcard as much bigger than it really is?

2016-10-17 Thread Chris Cheney
Public bug reported:

For some reason Linux (dd/mkfs.vfat/mkfs.ext4) treats the first
partition of my sdcard as 16GB regardless of what fdisk says it should
be. dd sees the other partitions as the correct size.

Also if I run mkfs.vfat on the first partition it is treated as a fuse
filesystem when mounted, it seems very strange. The whole card has been
zeroed out so it shouldn't be an issue of some other weird data on the
card. Pulling and reinserting the card after partitioning makes no
difference. I have also included the fdisk bootsector dump at the end of
this message.

2016-10-17 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We understand the difficulties you
are facing, but it is better to raise problems you are having in the
support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are
uncertain if they are bugs. You can also find help posting your problem
in the support forum of your local Ubuntu's community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at http://askubuntu.com. For help on
reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1634005] Re: linux treats first partition on sdcard as much bigger than it really is?

2016-10-17 Thread Chris Cheney
Taking the first sector output and decoding it shows:

00 - 00 01 01 - 0c - 3f a0 00 - 00 08 00 00 - 00 00 10 00
00 - 00 81 01 - 83 - 3f 20 00 - 00 08 10 00 - 00 00 10 00
00 - 00 01 01 - 83 - 3f 20 00 - 00 08 20 00 - 00 00 20 00
00 - 00 01 01 - 83 - 3f e0 3f - 00 08 40 00 - 00 f8 79 03

Which looks correct, so I'm not sure whats causing it to think partition
1 is 16GB, is there some kind of special casing for sdcards?

[Bug 1634009] [NEW] Trash on external HDs inoperative

2016-10-17 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

Deleting files on the internal drive moves file into Trash can.
The Trash icon changes (buldge) indicating files to be expunged.

On external HDs this is not the case.
Files get moved to the Trash folder but the icon does not change and the menu
item to empty trash is inactive.
Thus, deleted files on external drives cannot be deleted via the GUI.
Deleting from command file (in the .Trash folder) is possible and currently the
only way to delete files on external HDs

[Bug 1536331] Re: Precise to Trusty live migration failing

2016-10-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thanks Robie, I didn't realize that .28 is still blocking.
Thanks for pining on it - I hope Ryan still has the test env to get this
unblocked.

And yes, I was only able to create tasks >=X - thanks to point me where
to ask for it.

2016-10-17 Thread Thatoo
Hello,

I didn't tested that patch following that way,
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#Testing_a_newly_released_patch_from_upstream
, but I did test the pacth by building my own 4.8 kernel
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BuildYourOwnKernel) with the Ubuntu-
lts-4.8.0-25.27_16.04.1 kernel.

Sincerely,

Thatoo

[Bug 1634017] [NEW] usb mouse and keyboard freeze after login

2016-10-17 Thread Peter Pan
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I have a usb logitech wireless mouse and keyboard connected via an aten usb
switchbox to my computers (desktop and laptop). With release 14.04 I did not
have any issues. I have now upgraded my desktop to 16.04 and did a clean
install on my laptop with 16.04. Now I have the following phenomena:
Mouse and Keyboard are working fine when I have the login screen. However after
login in my desktop (gnome) comes up and my mouse pointer is shortly (1s)
disappearing and reappears.
Then I have an approximately 2min freeze time for mouse and keyboard (meaning
no response to the usb mouse and keyboard). After that everything is working
fine. On my laptop there is no interruption using my internal touchpad and
keyboard. This happens on both computers. Switching back and forth is seamless
unless the period from switching from one computer to the other takes to long
(can not specify the exact time here maybe 1 hour). Then I have the above
phenomenon.
I have already asked the question and checked the ubuntuforum with no success.
Best regards

s390/mm: fix gmap tlb flush issues

__tlb_flush_asce() should never be used if multiple asce belong to a
mm.

As this function changes mm logic determining if local or global tlb
flushes will be neded, we might end up flushing only the gmap asce on all
CPUs and a follow up mm asce flushes will only flush on the local CPU,
although that asce ran on multiple CPUs.

The missing tlb flushes will provoke strange faults in user space and even
low address protections in user space, crashing the kernel.

[Bug 1615474] Re: Network Indicator / Connectivity-API is not accessible

2016-10-17 Thread Michael Mess
Last weekend the telephone froze (after turning off hotspot). And I had
to hard-reset it using the power button.

Then the strange behaviour began:

On startup, only one sim card (without pin) was working.

Also I was unable to unlock the pin protected card (there was no dialog asking
for the password).
Even wehen trying "Unlock" from the configuration didn't do any action.

The icons to start applications didn't work, but it was possible to scroll
through them, only starting an application was not possible.
But from the slider on the left side it was possible to start an application.

Rebooting didn't solve the issue.

A workaround for the pin-locked SIM card was to disable the PIN and then
enable it again. That unlocked the SIM card, so that I am able to use it
now.

Using df via ssh didn't show a full disk, maybe the file system was
corrupted during hard reboot.

This seems to be the case as not only the network indicator was broken
but also the application which asks for the SIM PIN and the launcher.

Probably we should have a look on how configuration files are written by
applications and how corrupted configuration data is handled. Broken
configurations should not leave the applications in an unusable state, I
would prefer that instead a user notification is sent and the
configuration is reset to the last known working state or to useful
defaults.

[Bug 1634050] [NEW] Please enable CONFIG_VFIO_NOIOMMU

2016-10-17 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

Hi,
for certain cases a user might want to use VFIO in NO IOMMU mode.
This only enables it to be an option, it doesn't change things unless
"enable_unsafe_noiommu_mode" is set. See this reference:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/7906971/ for more details.

This is used for some setups of DPDK see this http://dpdk-
guide.gitlab.io/dpdk-guide/setup/binding.html#vfio-no-iommu

Usually the reason to pick vfio over uio is the isolation. But there are
some cases where vfio is required for extra features but can't work
unless NO-IOMMU mode is used.

I watched the topic a while checking if there is some major "oh crap
what have we done" but there was none. An since by only enabling it in
the kernel it shouldn't change a lot I wanted to ask if you could enable
this config in the kernel for Z*.

Technically it would be nice to get it in Yakkety as well, but I think
we should be fine only working forward and enabling it in the Z release.

[Bug 1407928] Re: [phone] Does not auto-switch to available, known WiFi

2016-10-17 Thread Michael Mess
I have noticed this issue as the backup via backuppc works only when the
mobile device is available in the local network.

Then I have to manually reconnect the mobile device before a backup can
take place.

This has worked well before.

By the way, I have experienced a similar issue on my Thinkpad that does
not always connects to the network when it is available. Restarting
network-manager one or more times used to solve the issue or connecting
manually to the network.

On other computers the issue seems not to occur.

Could this be a broken-configuration issue?

[Bug 1634059] [NEW] indicator-datetime-service devours memory rendering system useless

2016-10-17 Thread Krister
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1633319 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1633319

Public bug reported:

Upon upgrading to 16.10, yakkety yak, I cannot load Unity because the
indicator-datetime-service devours memory at an incredible pace before
being automatically killed, and restarting to devour all over again!

The workaround I found is to open a virtual terminal and
then log into unity while quickly switching back to the the F1 terminal.
I then repeatedly do "killall -KILL indicator-datetime-service" until it
stops coming back.

This is a major bug in that it renders the entire system unusable. It
happened on both my laptop and my desktop after upgrade to 16.10.

[Bug 1359689] Re: cryptsetup password prompt not shown

2016-10-17 Thread SamuelColvin
I think it's very likely this is (at least in some cases) related to
nvidia drivers.

I first got this problem while trying to fix a problem with ubuntu
freezing after initial login described
[here](http://askubuntu.com/a/760935/207604). I did "update" > "upgrade"
> "upgrade nvidia drivers" as per the answer I've highlighted.

Unfortunately this upgraded the kernel from .36 to .38 as well as
upgrading nvidia drivers from 364 (I think) to 370, so I don't know
which caused the problem.

For anyone else with this problem: the only solution/work-around I found
was to set

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

in "/etc/default/grub", then "update-grub". Not sure if both are
required but that worked and I'm not touching it any more.
