I tried that and got an error message telling me I have to get and
install 'python-apport' before it can be run. That being the case I'm

Nope. It's more like the other way around.
I clicked on a window (opened by an application) but it shot only the
application main window rectangle, even if it was partially covered. See
attached screenshot.
