I can confirm the issue.
I see that importance is "undecided". Since it is no more possible to import
photo with digikam, importance should be quite high.

Has anyone a ppa with an operational version ?

[Bug 1647133] [NEW] Network-manager 1.4.2-2ubuntu4 brakes network connection (Zesty)

2016-12-04 Thread Harry
Public bug reported:

Network-manager will make my network connection immediately lost after updating
to the newest version 1.4.2-2ubuntu4.
However, downgrading to the previous version 1.4.2-2ubuntu3 the network
connection is back again and fine. If, with this version, I remove the file
(link) /etc/resolv.conf the network is broken again. Rebooting solves this, as
network-manager creates a new resolv.conf file.

The newest version 1.4.2-2ubuntu4 also creates the very same kind of
file, but no network.

I have the latest (Gnome-shell DE) updates installed and of course all packages
that network-manager depends on. But not the ones it only recommends or
suggests.
Should I have resolvconf installed? I think not, as isc-dhcp-client only
suggests it.

[Bug 1527053] Re: Tab names unreadable in GTK3 in Ubuntu

I am still getting this issue in Ubuntu 16.10 with Radiance and Ambiance
themes, LO 5.2.3.2 (Build ID: 1:5.2.3~rc2-0ubuntu1~yakkety1).

For example, if I close LO, switch themes from and then back to
Radiance, start LO the text color in the tabs are black (which is good).
In Impress I then select a line > right mouse > Line..., the text in the
tabs switch to white.

Sorry for the absence. Yes, I may have changed the BIOS settings because I had
to fight with the system to virtualize a DOS system and to install a serial

For my Xubuntu 16.04, the missing files is available in
usr/lib/syslinux/modules/bios. Just copy them to the root (/) of your
usb. This solution worked well for me when I try to test Trinity Rescue

hitting Tab and type what appear on the screen).

[Bug 1377653] Re: HDMI sound output not detected / NVIDIA optimus laptop

2016-12-04 Thread Rudi Daemen
I am not sure this is an alsa-specific bug. Looks to be more of an issue
with the Nvidia card and the way it handles HDMI audio. This also
affects a BTO 15CL76 notebook (I7-6700HQ / GTX1060) set in DISCRETE
mode. No HDMI audio device shows up at all. The active nvidia driver (as
of writing) is nvidia_367. No bbswitch/bumblebee installed as Hybrid
mode is disabled.

Suggestions on the nvidia forum are to shutdown your X environment and
then run the following commands as root:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/609790/linux/no-hdmi-sound-w
-optimus-in-linux/

rmmod nvidia
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/\:00\:01.0/remove
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/rescan

This also had no effects - the Nvidia device comes back online but
without the audio device showing up.

Here's the output of lspci -H 1:

[Bug 1647159] [NEW] Steam can't install/update itself or any games (zesty)

2016-12-04 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
Public bug reported:

Today I've noticed that Steam can't install/update anything. For instance, when
running steam for the first time I'm getting:
> Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network
> connection and try again.

I've seen DNS-related updated recently, they might be a reason for this
issue.

I don't have any issues in browsers though.

Workaround is to change `127.0.0.53` to `8.8.8.8` in `/etc/resolv.conf`
manually.

I'm connected to the Internet via router using Ethernet cable and I've
manually specified DNS servers `8.8.8.8` and `8.8.4.4` in nm-applet's (I
believe it is an applet) GUI.

[Bug 1647168] [NEW] /dev/ashmem and /dev/binder not usable inside confinement

2016-12-04 Thread Simon Fels
Public bug reported:

I have a snap which starts an entire Android system in a LXC container
similar to how we do it on Ubuntu Touch. The LXC container itself works
fine in devmode, confinement is not yet considered and left completely
aside.

The Android system needs access to the two nodes /dev/ashmem and
/dev/binder from the host system. They are both available in the snap
execution environment and are bind mounted into the LXC container
environment. Inside the container both nodes are accessible and can be
used.

However certain mmap calls to memory allocated via /dev/ashmem fail with
a permission denied error and also binder IPC calls fail. These problems
are not occurring when the LXC container is started outside of the snap
execution environment, so it can be already ruled out as a problem here.
The container configuration is also the same.

The problem can be fixed by executing the container management process
via

$ aa-exec -p unconfined -- $SNAP/bin/container-manager

which then uses liblxc to start the container.

I don't really understand why this is required as AppArmor shouldn't
prevent any use of /dev/ashmem or /dev/binder when the snap is installed
with --devmode and dmesg doesn't show any denials, just that it allows
all calls.

I am opening this bug here to start tracking the problem and get some
more visibility and thoughts from others.

I should have said that the headers for 0.5.2 cannot be included in any
program being compiled as the API is broken is the head of 0.5.2.
Unsure why this wasn't caught by the package maintainers before but it's
causing serious issues wit people using yank-cop. (The entire ROS
community) trying to upgrade to 16.04 from 14.04.

[Bug 1644335] Re: Do not know

2016-12-04 Thread Paul White
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:

1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Please also change the title of the bug to something more meaningful.

Thanks!

[Bug 1634990] Re: Hard Disk Health warning for removed HDD (Ultrabay)

2016-12-04 Thread Bzzz
As there is no option to "remove" a hard disk drive in dolphin or the
usual USB notifier, I unmounted all partitions and sent the device to
sleep (gnome-disks), which causes a spin-down of the drive itself. Then
one can remove the disk in a relatively safe manner.

The message did not appear again after the smartmontools command above,
and it also did not appear after a reboot. So I reckon restarting
smartmoontools via a user-friendly button is enough to get rid of the
annoyance.

[Bug 1530405] Re: NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#0 stuck for 22s! [kerneloops:814]

2016-12-04 Thread Roberto Longobardi
I am affected with 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-51-generic.

The only way I could make my system work has been to install initial
Ubuntu 16.04 and not upgrade any single package since installation.

I used to have hangs even before login, so I enabled auto-login without
password and things got better.

I still have lockups during shutdown, so I need to hard-shutdown the PC
every time, but at least the working sessions go smooth.

My system is an ASUS K550V, Intel Core i7-6700HQ, NVIDIA Geforce GTX
950M.

2016-12-04 Thread Júlio Maranhão
This bug seems to be included (duplicate?) in #1510570.

The following seems to solve my problem:

1) remove /lib/udev/rules.d/50-bluetooth-hci-auto-poweron.rules

2) change /etc/bluetooth/main.conf: uncomment [Policy] and uncomment/set
AutoEnable=true

The dmesg error also desappeared:
[ 17.566030] usb 2-6: device descriptor read/64, error -110

--

#1510570 is much more actively commented and there are other "solutions"
I did not tried. Maybe the above one is not the correct one, so stay
tuned with #1510570. But after many reboots, connects and disconnects I
am just happy with the result. M$ mouse 3600 works on xenial.

[Bug 1609063] Re: Pcmanfm Search Tool does not clear fields after closing

2016-12-04 Thread LStranger
The requirement for * is obvious - if you want to find files that begin
from 'a' and asterisks will be added implicitly then you will get a lot
of unwanted files in search even if you type a* - it will search for *a*
in that case. Although it might be viable to add asterisks only in case
if there is no wildcards in search but if that is the case then you
again aren't able to do exact search for some file, it will show all
similar named files. So in short, it might be possible to make mentioned
behavior, but only as an optional feature, and probably it should be
noted in the search window.

As for field for search - that behavior was requested, and that's how
many other file managers which have a search feature usually behave. So
again, clearing the form might be added as a feature option.

[Bug 1620110] Re: vlc leaks memory

2016-12-04 Thread Sasa Vilic
Sorry, I can't remember if I had libva-vdpau-gl1 installed. (I also had
additional problems with system, like X server consuming 100% CPU and
then application stops responding to key strokes, but when if finally
recovers, then it keeps generating those strokes. Typical scenario was,
I edit something in writer and it blocks. When it recovers, I have two
page of a, sort of thing.)

But since I am the only one reporting this issue and I don't have it
after fresh installation, I guess we could simply reject this bug?

[Bug 1647142] [NEW] usr.bin.chromium-browser terribly outdated

2016-12-04 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

when using the Chromium Browser, the screen (LXDE) drowns in warning
messages because of heaps of apparmor profile violations. Unusable
without intense manual modifications.

For some strange reason /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.chromium-browser is over
a year old

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8243 Sep 3 2015 usr.bin.chromium-browser

and part of the apparmor-profiles and not of the chromium-package (where it
would belong to).

It seems as if the chromium browser is continuously developed and re-
compiled with new library versions, while the apparmor profile is frozen
and noone takes care about, thus things are diverging more and more.

IMHO the profile should be

a) part of the chromium browser package
b) maintained (tested) by the same package maintainers

[Bug 1647166] [NEW] systemd-networkd Lost wlan0 carrier although it is always there and strong

2016-12-04 Thread jean-christophe manciot
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.10 4.8 with systemd 231-9ubuntu1

Wlan0 carrier is lost now and then although there is no apparent reason:
the signal which is broadcasted by the nearby AP remains always strong
just a few feet away.

All the related logs are attached.

What could trigger the error message "systemd-networkd[2940]: wlan0:

[Bug 1647184] [NEW] Ubuntu should install mach_kernel and System directory in boot/EFI like Fedora 24 and fallback.efi for EFI-32

2016-12-04 Thread Jack Howarth
Public bug reported:

While looking at the various Linux distributions as a replacement OS on
a MacBook Pro 2,1 with EFI-32, I was pleasantly surprised that Fedora 24
could produce a bootable system on an internal disk which was
partitioned as MBR with just a single spare partition of empty space.
The ability to boot the installed Fedora without retaining an OS X
partition with rEFind installed is due to Fedora installing their own
fake mach_kernel file and populated System directory in the /boot
partition. The Fedora 24 installer appears to be implementing the
approached described in

http://askubuntu.com/questions/563401/efi-boot-ubuntu-14-04-on-a-mac-
without-refind

automatically for the benefit of Mac owners who have legacy hardware
that they wish to repurpose since the OS support has lapsed from Apple
itself.

The second issue here is the fact that the x86_64 Fedora 24 is capable
of booting on an EFI-32 Mac. This seems likely to be due to the presence
of a failback.efi file but I will check with the Fedora developers to
confirm that is the fix they used. This would be useful not only to Mac
owners but any PC owners who have motherboards with only EFI-32 support.
