This is incorrect; the choice of UEFI or BIOS is entirely up to your

** Description changed:
strongSwan is effectively incompatible with iOS 10+ and macOS 10.11+
devices. Dead peer detection does not work for these devices and they
continually re-establish security associations (SAs) as a result. Please

I can perform the bisect for you and post test kernels. I'll perform a
"Reverse" bisect between v4.11-rc5 and v4.11-rc6 since -rc6 fixes the
bug. That will tell us the commit that fixes the bug, which we can then
SRU to the affected Ubuntu kernels.
I'll post a test kernel shortly.

You
@Joseph Salisbury,
Hi.
It looks as if the Ubuntu kernel source has diverged from stable in a
significant way. In particular,
as has already been noted, on 3/10/2017, Canonical cherry-picked several
patches from 4.11-pre, apparently relating to:
http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1671613
Public bug reported:
Grub cannot be repaired to allow boot
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04
Package: ubiquity 2.21.63.3 [modified:
lib/partman/automatically_partition/question]
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.8.0-36.36~16.04.1-generic 4.8.11
Uname: Linux 4.8.0-36-generic i686
I tried replacing device uuid with /dev/sdx in /etc/crypttab as "asgard2
(kamp000x)" suggested, but the problem persists. I'm using plain LUKS.

I can confirm that the `strongswan-5.5.1-1ubuntu3` source package from
17.04 compiles without issue on 16.04. There is one missing build-dep
`libsystemd-dev` however. I've experienced no functionality or stability
issues so far.

you said not fixed in 4.10.0-20

You will need to modify that patch (as it is particular to power) and
the need for this is across most archs. Particularly via ACPI APEI ERST
on Intel boxes.
