[Bug 1701832] [NEW] installer on Dell 9560 (2017 XPS 15) fails to find existing EFI partition

2017-07-01 Thread Derek Wilcox
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
Release:16.04

After shrinking the windows primary data partition and following
https://github.com/rcasero/doc/wiki/Ubuntu-linux-on-Dell-XPS-15-(9560).
I proceeded with the install to put Ubuntu along side Windows. The
installer was connected via wifi and told to update as well as
proprietary software. parted correctly found the EFI system partition.
Ubuntu 17 can install fine but other suspected video issues prevent me
from using it.

[Bug 1701648] Re: app never starts in Ubuntu 16.04.2 due to missing python-cairo module

2017-07-01 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
I've made a patch which adds python-cairo and python-gi as dependencies.
That way it should be impossible to install smartshine without also
pulling in these libraries. At the same time, I took the liberty of
sorting the dependencies alphabetically to make it easier to see which
were included.

** Patch added: "patch.debdiff"

** Changed in: smartshine (Ubuntu)

[Bug 843431] Re: Logitech camera microphone does not work / makes "chipmunk" sound

2017-07-01 Thread Jaap de Haan
A hint: I switched from a USB 3.0 to one of the few USB 2.0 ports I
still have... and magically the issue disappears. Can this really be
related to the use of a USB 3.0 port?

[Bug 1566222] Re: [xenial] USB camera MIC: no input or high pitch until pavucontrol is opened

2017-07-01 Thread Jaap de Haan
Another important hint. I switched from a USB 3.0 to one of the few USB
2.0 ports I still have... and magically the issue disappears. Can this
really be related to the use of a USB 3.0 port?

[Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner)

2017-07-01 Thread dualshock3nerd
The latest pulseaudio update fixed this for me on 16.04.

After the update, just to see if something changed, I reverted the
changes made by my workaround in comment #20, rebooted, tested it for a
day and I didn't encounter this bug ever since.

My current pulseaudio version is 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.3 from xenial-updates
My sound card:
-(aplay -L): PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC898 Analog [ALC898 Analog]
-(lspci): Audio device: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
Kernel version: 4.4.0-83-generic

In case someone wants to double check this and did previously apply my
workaround in comment #20, just run hdajackretask, click "Remove boot
override", install the latest pulseaudio update and reboot.

[Bug 1508146] Re: alt + left/right arrows switch between tty consoles, cannot disable

2017-07-01 Thread Christian Paul
I'm affected on Ubuntu 17.04 on a Thinkpad X230 with a German keyboard
and en_CA as the system language.

Alt + Left showed me the gnome-shell lock screen. After successfully
logging into the session again Alt + Up showed me my password plain
text.

$ sudo kdb_mode -s

(as recommended by ahayzen) works for me too.

[Bug 1566222] Re: [xenial] USB camera MIC: no input or high pitch until pavucontrol is opened

2017-07-01 Thread Jaap de Haan
I made a recording with pulseaudio and slowed down the speed by a factor
3 (tempo x 0,333) then on playback the sound seems to be normal.

Maybe this factor 3 is a helpful information to track down the bug for
some experienced programmer in that area.

[Bug 1627828] Re: iwl3945 crashes randomly

2017-07-01 Thread John Pilkington
After much fruitless experiment I loaded an SL7.3 KDE live disk. The dmesg |
grep firmware response had only one line of 'vpd r/w failed' (which seems to
have been around for a long time) followed by a successful load of the iwl3945
firmware. But still no wifi connection - until, on editing the config
security, I was asked to grant access to the Kwallet.

Once I had done that, it all started working. So it isn't the hardware problem
that I had feared; but I'm not clear how to translate it to kubuntu.

[Bug 1701028] Re: Jacksum -h option missing source help_en.txt

2017-07-01 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for providing the additional information.

I've also forwarded this to the Debian maintainer, see the attached bug
watch.

If jacksum 1.7.0-2 on Ubuntu 14.04 it is likely the issue was introduced
since then, which should help pin-point exactly what is causing it.
Since the version in 14.04 works, I've removed the trusty tag (the tags
represent which releases contains the issue)

This is all very well and true, but it's not what this bug is about.
Upstream OpenSSH doesn't yet support Include for sshd_config at all, so
there's no possibility of making the distribution-shipped sshd_config
include a .d directory. This bug is about ssh_config instead.

[Bug 1701823] [NEW] I was installing some Kali Linux tools and then, my computer said "nmap : Depende: liblua5.3-0 pero no va a instalarse"and now my Ubuntu has many problems to update

2017-07-01 Thread Ivan Sammet
Public bug reported:

I was installing some tools from Kali Linux because I want to try them. But,
there was a big problem and the installation was cancelled. Now, even Ubuntu
can't update it by itself. Appears this:
***
Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

This is most likely a transient problem, please try again later.

Re: [Bug 1698772] Re: package clamav-base 0.99.2+dfsg-6 failed to install/upgrade: package is in a very bad inconsistent state; you should reinstall it before attempting a removal

2017-07-01 Thread Bernard Cayeux
Hi Joshua,

Thanks for your input. Pardon my ignorance but I guess I need to place
or extract the downloaded contents somewhere in the root directory after
down load. When I ran the command it first had a message (which I don't
remeber) but meaning it could not locate the files or something.

Then I opted the right-click and open with package installer. It did
initiate until it reached 95% then stalled.

Now that I try the command again it says it's locked [dpkg: error: dpkg
status database is locked by another process]

Any idea to get around this?

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Bernard

[Bug 1701816] Re: Annoying beeps on Lubuntu 16.04

** Description changed:

I have a fresh install of Lubuntu 16.04 on my old Vaio VGN-FS730F and there
are some annoying beeps that sound always in a randomly way. They have no
defined pattern.
I thought it was the pc speaker so I disabled from BIOS but it doesn't change
anything. I realized that the beeps are emitted by the soundcard because when
I can listen it by headphones when I connect them. Sometimes the sound tray
icon blinks at the sound of the beeps.

The patterns of beeps changes randomly at every machine restart.
  -Not beep at all.
  -Beep every minute
  -Beep every second.
-Sometimes the beeps lower their frequency when I play some video in firefox.

Seems to be worst when the battery is low, but this is not a ruler.

If you have problems figuring my situation, check this video of the
  issue https://youtu.be/GetcRSn2OJ4

The same on 17.04 and ThinkPad E570. After this "sudo modprobe -r
psmouse && sudo modprobe psmouse proto=imps" the touchpas works but with

[Bug 1700373] Re: intel-microcode is out of date, version 20170511 fixes errata on 6th and 7th generation platforms

2017-07-01 Thread Török Edwin
On Ubuntu 17.04 zesty the proposed microcode package installs and loads fine:
$ dpkg-query -W intel-microcode
intel-microcode 3.20170511.1~ubuntu17.04.0
$ grep -E 'model|stepping' /proc/cpuinfo | sort -u
model : 78
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6600U CPU @ 2.60GHz
stepping: 3
$ journalctl -k|grep microcode
Jul 01 14:21:47 thunder kernel: microcode: microcode updated early to revision
0xba, date = 2017-04-09
Jul 01 14:21:47 thunder kernel: microcode: sig=0x406e3, pf=0x80, revision=0xba
Jul 01 14:21:47 thunder kernel: microcode: Microcode Update Driver: v2.2.

I have confirmed that it also fixes the original testcase from the OCaml
bugtracker (with the old microcode it was crashing quite soon).
$ eval $(opam config env)
The OCaml toplevel, version 4.04.1
$ while ocamlfind opt -c -g -bin-annot -ccopt -g -ccopt -O2 -ccopt -Wextra
-ccopt '-Wstrict-overflow=5' -thread -w +a-4-40..42-44-45-48-58 -w -27-32
-package extprot test.ml -o test.cmx; do echo "ok"; done
ok
ok
ok
ok
ok
...

Running the perl script posted on the Debian mailing list shows all OK too:
cpu 0: Your CPU is affected, but your microcode is new enough
cpu 1: Your CPU is affected, but your microcode is new enough
cpu 2: Your CPU is affected, but your microcode is new enough
cpu 3: Your CPU is affected, but your microcode is new enough

Note: I've been using the 20170511 version of microcode using the
package from artful for about 6 days, and haven't noticed any problems.

[Bug 1701648] Re: app never starts in Ubuntu 16.04.2 due to missing python-cairo module

2017-07-01 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I can confirm that smartshine 0.36-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu Artful refuses to
start if python-cairo isn't installed. While testing, I also discovered
that python-gi is another undocument requirement of this package. These
should be added to the Dependencies field in the control file to resolve
this issue. I haven't checked thoroughly, but there might be more
undocumented dependencies.

As a workaround, run `sudo apt install python-cairo python-gi` to
install the necessary dependencies to run smartshine.

Btw, could you please run the following command in a terminal to gather
additional debug information (only once):
apport-collect 1701648

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1701068] Re: motd.ubuntu.com currently shows media item (HBO's Silicon Valley using Ubuntu)

2017-07-01 Thread Nicola Heald
@Dustin

> Moreover, the HBO link wasn't even an advertisement!

I think the thing that made me feel uneasy is that the motd read like an
advertisement. And so did parts of the article, specifically saying that
we should watch Silicon Valley. I appreciate that it was not meant that
way though.

But maybe people are so sick of seeing clickbait advertorial content
when they browse the internet that the message brought up some bad
reactions. Perhaps people thought that, when the linked article told
them that they should watch Silicon Valley, that it was promoting
Silicon Valley. Which is a great show on HBO. If you haven't seen it,
you should! (This is not a promotion of Silicon Valley.)

[Bug 1678306] Re: Touchpad on HP Pavilion x2 12 doesn't work

2017-07-01 Thread doniks
No, that doesn't seem to work right:
- the touchpad does not react to any input (single tap, multi tap, swipe left,
up)
- the screen resolution is wrong (everything is huge, looks like 800x600 or
something)

There were some errors when installing. See below:

[Bug 1701790] [NEW] Joule caspa/gumstix camera support

2017-07-01 Thread Fnoop
Public bug reported:

The 'official' caspa/gumstix hd/4k cameras aren't quite working in ubuntu
dekstop joule spin. It's very close, but there seems to be some v4l subdevices
missing which then fail the camerahal. RefOS kernel produces 4 subdevices
which aren't available in the Ubuntu joule kernel (4.4.0-1003-joule #8-Ubuntu):
/dev/v4l-subdev14
/dev/v4l-subdev10
/dev/v4l-subdev11
/dev/v4l-subdev12
/dev/v4l-subdev13

Bit more information in the conversation here:
https://communities.intel.com/message/484549#484549

The kernel patches are here:
https://github.com/01org/meta-intel-camera/blob/master/recipes-kernel/linux-yocto/linux-yocto_4.4.bbappend

I assume the latest ubuntu joule kernel must have added some support for these
cameras as all these dozens of v4l devices/subdevices popped up, and the kernel
can see the camera:
[dev] [mav@maverick-joule /var/tmp]$ v4l2-ctl --all -d /dev/video41
Driver Info (not using libv4l2):
Driver name : intel-ipu4-isys
Card type : ipu4/Broxton B
Bus info  : pci::00:03.0
Driver version: 4.4.67
Capabilities : 0x84203001
Video Capture
Video Capture Multiplanar
Video Output Multiplanar
Streaming
Extended Pix Format
Device Capabilities
Device Caps : 0x0421

Sorry, I cannot work out how to find out which patches have been applied
to the ubuntu joule kernel.

[Bug 1701788] [NEW] /usr/bin/plasmashell debug symbols are not provided by plasma-workspace-dbgsym

2017-07-01 Thread Simone Gaiarin
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to debug a crash of plasmashell and for generating a useful
crash report I need to install the debug symbols.

plasmashell is part of the package plasma-workspace, so I installed the
package plasma-workspace-dbgsym, but also in this case when the crash
happen it complains that the debug symbols for /usr/bin/plasmashell are
not installed.

So there must be a problem with the package plasma-workspace-dbgsym.

I've also installed the following packages but nothing changed:

sudo apt-get install \

May be i get time and install the whole linux newly some day.

best regards and thanks for your work.
