[Bug 1701832] [NEW] installer on Dell 9560 (2017 XPS 15) fails to find existing EFI partition
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release:16.04 After shrinking the windows primary data partition and following https://github.com/rcasero/doc/wiki/Ubuntu-linux-on-Dell-XPS-15-(9560). I proceeded with the install to put Ubuntu along side Windows. The installer was connected via wifi and told to update as well as proprietary software. parted correctly found the EFI system partition. Ubuntu 17 can install fine but other suspected video issues prevent me from using it. [Bug 1701648] Re: app never starts in Ubuntu 16.04.2 due to missing python-cairo module
I've made a patch which adds python-cairo and python-gi as dependencies. That way it should be impossible to install smartshine without also pulling in these libraries. At the same time, I took the liberty of sorting the dependencies alphabetically to make it easier to see which were included. ** Patch added: "patch.debdiff" https://bugs.launchpad.net/smartshine/+bug/1701648/+attachment/4907462/+files/patch.debdiff ** Changed in: smartshine (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => In Progress ** Tags added: patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1701648 Title: app never starts in Ubuntu 16.04.2 due to missing python-cairo module To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/smartshine/+bug/1701648/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1585084] Re: Volume notification keeps popping up constantly (the notify-OSD bubble on top-right corner)
The latest pulseaudio update fixed this for me on 16.04. After the update, just to see if something changed, I reverted the changes made by my workaround in comment #20, rebooted, tested it for a day and I didn't encounter this bug ever since. [Bug 1627828] Re: iwl3945 crashes randomly
After much fruitless experiment I loaded an SL7.3 KDE live disk. The dmesg | grep firmware response had only one line of 'vpd r/w failed' (which seems to have been around for a long time) followed by a successful load of the iwl3945 firmware. But still no wifi connection - until, on editing the config security, I was asked to grant access to the Kwallet. Once I had done that, it all started working. Hi Joshua, Thanks for your input. Pardon my ignorance but I guess I need to place or extract the downloaded contents somewhere in the root directory after down load. When I ran the command it first had a message (which I don't remeber) but meaning it could not locate the files or something. Then I opted the right-click and open with package installer. It did initiate until it reached 95% then stalled. Now that I try the command again it says it's locked [dpkg: error: dpkg status database is locked by another process] Any idea to get around this? [Bug 1697829] Re: Upgrade Redpine WLAN/BT driver to ver. 1.2.RC16
** Description changed: Upgrade the Redpine WLAN/BT RS9113 driver in Ubuntu Xenial kernel to ver. 1.2.RC16. This version is supposed to be a production candidate release. This is the latest version of the driver provided by Redpine. For now, this driver is enabled only on x86, x86_64 architectures. [Bug 1701648] Re: app never starts in Ubuntu 16.04.2 due to missing python-cairo module
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I can confirm that smartshine 0.36-0ubuntu2 on Ubuntu Artful refuses to start if python-cairo isn't installed. While testing, I also discovered that python-gi is another undocument requirement of this package. These should be added to the Dependencies field in the control file to resolve this issue. I haven't checked thoroughly, but there might be more undocumented dependencies. As a workaround, run `sudo apt install python-cairo python-gi` to install the necessary dependencies to run smartshine. Btw, could you please run the following command in a terminal to gather additional debug information (only once): apport-collect 1701648 When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu- bug' and the name of the package affected. [Bug 1701068] Re: motd.ubuntu.com currently shows media item (HBO's Silicon Valley using Ubuntu)
@Dustin > Moreover, the HBO link wasn't even an advertisement! I think the thing that made me feel uneasy is that the motd read like an advertisement. And so did parts of the article, specifically saying that we should watch Silicon Valley. I appreciate that it was not meant that way though. But maybe people are so sick of seeing clickbait advertorial content when they browse the internet that the message brought up some bad reactions. Perhaps people thought that, when the linked article told them that they should watch Silicon Valley, that it was promoting Silicon Valley. Which is a great show on HBO. If you haven't seen it, you should! RefOS kernel produces 4 subdevices which aren't available in the Ubuntu joule kernel (4.4.0-1003-joule #8-Ubuntu): /dev/v4l-subdev14 /dev/v4l-subdev10 /dev/v4l-subdev11 /dev/v4l-subdev12 /dev/v4l-subdev13 Bit more information in the conversation here: https://communities.intel.com/message/484549#484549 The kernel patches are here: https://github.com/01org/meta-intel-camera/blob/master/recipes-kernel/linux-yocto/linux-yocto_4.4.bbappend I assume the latest ubuntu joule kernel must have added some support for these cameras as all these dozens of v4l devices/subdevices popped up, and the kernel can see the camera: [dev] [mav@maverick-joule /var/tmp]$ v4l2-ctl --all -d /dev/video41 Driver Info (not using libv4l2): Driver name : intel-ipu4-isys Card type : ipu4/Broxton B Bus info : pci::00:03.0 Driver version: 4.4.67 Capabilities : 0x84203001 Video Capture Video Capture Multiplanar Video Output Multiplanar Streaming Extended Pix Format Device Capabilities Device Caps : 0x0421 Video Capture Streaming Extended Pix Format Sorry, I cannot work out how to find out which patches have been applied to the ubuntu joule kernel. ** Affects: linux-joule (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1701790 Title: Joule caspa/gumstix camera support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-joule/+bug/1701790/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1701788] [NEW] /usr/bin/plasmashell debug symbols are not provided by plasma-workspace-dbgsym
Public bug reported: I'm trying to debug a crash of plasmashell and for generating a useful crash report I need to install the debug symbols. plasmashell is part of the package plasma-workspace, so I installed the package plasma-workspace-dbgsym, but also in this case when the crash happen it complains that the debug symbols for /usr/bin/plasmashell are not installed. So there must be a problem with the package plasma-workspace-dbgsym. I've also installed the following packages but nothing changed: sudo apt-get install \ libkf5plasma5-dbgsym \ libkf5plasmaquick5-dbgsym \ libplasma-geolocation-interface5-dbgsym \ libplasma3-dbgsym \ plasma-dataengines-addons-dbgsym \ plasma-desktop-dbgsym \ plasma-desktop-dbgsym \ plasma-discover-dbgsym \ plasma-framework-dbgsym \ plasma-framework-dbgsym \ plasma-integration-dbgsym \ plasma-nm-dbgsym \ plasma-pa-dbgsym \ plasma-runner-telepathy-contact-dbgsym \ plasma-runners-addons-dbgsym \ plasma-scriptengine-javascript-dbgsym \ plasma-widgets-addons-dbgsym \ plasma-workspace-dbgsym \ plasma-workspace-dbgsym \ sudo apt-get install \ libqt5core5a-dbgsym \ libqt5gui5-dbgsym \ libqt5quick5-dbgsym \ libqt5widgets5-dbgsym \ libqt5gui5-dbgsym ** Affects: plasma-workspace (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1701788 Title: /usr/bin/plasmashell debug symbols are not provided by plasma- workspace-dbgsym To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-workspace/+bug/1701788/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks a lot for the time you all spent to try reproduce it. it's not allways (not after each update that is aviailiable). And yes, on other Ubuntu installations i own it has never happend to me too. I have no idea what's going wrong with that 1 installation. May be i get time and install the whole linux newly some day. best regards and thanks for your work. byobu is still great at all -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1604750 Title: Byobu not clearing update numbers after updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/byobu/+bug/1604750/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
