So I've enabled secure boot on my Intel NUC's and have *not* used to
workaround in #36, and the machines deployed just fine (that is, they
pxe boot off MAAS and they are told to load the shim). The same scenario
is when using workaround in #36.
That said, the interesting bit is I remember testing
this is definitely not a bug in casper but a mix of different issues. It
is currently under investigation and this bug is used as a placeholder
to track the problem. Specific bugs will be filed as causes are
identified.

Problem solved by:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall tk
That has not solved this bug! This is a bug report not a help forum.
Bug still exists in Xenial.
