[Bug 1574349] Re: gitlab install fails on missing gem file
This is a pretty serious bug: it's in an LTS release, breaks a completely clean install, and the workarounds involve going around the package manager and negating the distribution. So potentially all it would need is a sync of this Debian minor version to resolve this. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1574349 Title: gitlab install fails on missing gem file To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gitlab/+bug/1574349/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1752857] [NEW] 3rd party kernel modules fail to build due to incomplete /usr/src/linux-headers-4.1x.y install?
Public bug reported: I've been building my own mainline/stock kernels on Ubuntu (technically, Kubuntu 14.04) for years, using `make-kpkg` from the kernel-package package. All I had to do after installing the linux-image and linux- headers packages was to correct the /lib/modules/4.x.y/{source,build} symlinks so they pointed to the /usr/src/linux-headers-4.x.y directory instead of to the source tree (which I'd trash because HUGE). Last kernel I did this with was 4.9.30. Doing the same with 4.15.7 and 4.14.23 works for some 3rd party modules (for instance, ZFS 0.7.6) but not with others, like the driver for the RTL8812au WIFI adapter (or even the host kernel extensions from VirtualBox 5.2.8-121009~Ubuntu~trusty installed from Oracle' own PPA). There, I'm seeing make errors like this: ``` make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/4.14.23-ck1-mainline-core2-rjvb/build M=/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-headers-4.14.23-ck1-mainline-core2-rjvb' test -e include/generated/autoconf.h -a -e include/config/auto.conf || ( \ echo >&2; \ echo >&2 " ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid."; \ echo >&2 " include/generated/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing.";\ echo >&2 " Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it."; \ echo >&2 ; \ /bin/false) mkdir -p /path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/.tmp_versions ; rm -f /home/bertin/work/src/Scratch/RTL881x/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/.tmp_versions/* make -f ./scripts/Makefile.build obj=/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git make[2]: *** No rule to make target `/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/core/rtw_io.o', needed by `/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/8812au.o'. Two explanations (both of which probably have some truth): 1. the tree installed in /usr/src/linux-headers-4.1x.y* is somehow incomplete 2. something has to be changed in the 3rd party extension module I'd go with 2) were it not for the fact that apparently at least one of the various 8812au driver repos builds just fine against 4.14 and 4.15, and I must assume that this holds too for VirtualBox. (There are some reports of the error I'm seeing but in an older version, supposedly fixed in 5.2.7 .) The RTL 8812au driver source I'm working with: github.com/RJVB/rtl8812au_rtl8821au . I've already updated to the latest kernel-package version (13.018+nmu1), that didn't solve the issue. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS, with all LTS updates I'm aware of. ** Affects: kernel-package (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752857 Title: 3rd party kernel modules fail to build due to incomplete /usr/src /linux-headers-4.1x.y install? [Bug 1752835] [NEW] gbutils ARM bug (programs freezes)
Public bug reported: Dear gbutils developers, Thank you very much for such excellent set of tools! I would like to supply a bug in ARM architecture. I found the bug in gblreg program, but I think, that it affects all the utils. Step to reproduce: Ubuntu 16.04 ARM. Run gblreg program on any dataset with any options (except -h) and the program hangs. The origin of the bug: ARM architecture, by default treat char as unsigned variable, so loop while((opt=getopt_long(argc,argv,"v:hF:M:O:w",gb_long_options, _option_index))!=EOF) will be infinite as EOF is -1 and opt is not negative value by the definition. Possible solution. 1) add -fsigned-char option to compiler. The easiest way, but can affect the rest of the code possibly creates new bugs. 2) Change char opt to signed char opt. 3) The best way from my point of view is to change char opt to int, as getopt function returns native. HI, I confirmed that I can override ssh_pwauth value with user-data. But, it's does not fit for my use case. Since deploing VM is done by user, I can't control user-data. Norbert, it is *extremely* inappropriate to edit the bug description to publicize your workaround. I have reverted that change. ** Description changed: READ ME FIRST = This is a cosmetic issue. The warning message is just that— a warning. [Bug 1752831] [NEW] memcached should disable UDP by default
Public bug reported: Memcached is currently involved in some massive ddos attacks, see e.g.: https://blog.cloudflare.com/memcrashed-major-amplification-attacks-from-port-11211/ The UDP protocol of memcached can be abused for very effective DDoS amplification attacks and should therefore be considered dangerous. Upstream memcached has reacted to this by disabling UDP by default: https://github.com/memcached/memcached/wiki/ReleaseNotes156 In Ubuntu memcached by default only listens to 127.0.0.1, but enables UDP. While the localhost-only protects default settings, it's still only a minor change away from creating an effective DDoS tool for a protocol that is hardly in use today. I recommend that Ubuntu backports the upstream change and disables UDP by default. ** Affects: memcached (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752831 Title: memcached should disable UDP by default To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/memcached/+bug/1752831/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As [1] says this module is DDR4 I suspect the version of lshw in Ubuntu needs both these patches. @dgrosvenor could you try building lshw in rescue mode to confirm? sudo apt install git gcc make git clone https://github.com/lyonel/lshw.git make sudo ./lshw -xml > lshw.log [1] https://www.micron.com/parts/modules/ddr4-sdram/mta72ass8g72lz-2g3 [2] https://github.com/lyonel/lshw/commit/0ea2e95b3ccdeb3834bec6fe22d0794a65e8c37a [3] https://github.com/lyonel/lshw/commit/ab43c697ebaff3e5138c43a39a17f69859cde87d -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752440 Title: Lshw incorrectly detects amount of RAM in system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1752440/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
