[Bug 1734147] Re: corrupted BIOS due to Intel SPI bug in kernel

I have a desktop that has problems with EFI booting from CD (e.g. for

I have Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H with F8 bios. sudo efibootmgr -v gives:

2018-03-02 Thread Leonardo Müller
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I have noticed that the network stopped working on my desktop after I've
  suspended the system and woke it up. On dmesg there are messages like:

  [  150.877998] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): enp1s0: link is not ready
  [  150.944101] do_IRQ: 3.37 No irq handler for vector
  [  150.944105] r8169 :01:00.0 enp1s0: link down
  [  150.944180] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): enp1s0: link is not ready

  When using Xenial (from a different install), this problem is not
  happening. This is happening on Bionic.

  There are only two ways to restore connectivity:
  1) Reboot the system;
  2) Remove the r8169 module and reinsert it with modprobe.

  The motherboard is a AsRock H55M-LE and the Ethernet controller is:

[Bug 1574349] Re: gitlab install fails on missing gem file

2018-03-02 Thread David Banks
This is a pretty serious bug: it's in an LTS release, breaks a
completely clean install, and the workarounds involve going around the
package manager and negating the distribution. According to the
effective 'upstream' -- Debian's Pirate Praveen -- it's been fixed since
his -dfsg10 version. So potentially all it would need is a sync of this
Debian minor version to resolve this.

[Bug 1750174] Re: Update gnome-control-center to 3.27.90

2018-03-02 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

+ FFe Justification
+ -
+ This upgrade was ready a little bit late because we wanted to fix some
regressions identified in testing the new version instead of rushing it in.
+
  News

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/blob/master/NEWS

  To Do
  -

- The app icon was renamed from 'preferences-system' to 'gnome-control-
+ 1. The app icon was renamed from 'preferences-system' to 'gnome-control-
  center'. We'll want to update humanity-icon-theme and the Ubuntu Budgie
  default themes. But there is a naming issue with gnome-icon-theme so
  let's hold off on changing icon themes until that gets resolved:

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/issues/3
+
+ 2. You can't maximize the Settings app (button is there, but doesn't

  Done

  1. Rebase 70_allow_sound_above_100.patch
  (This patch has been somewhat upstreamed. However, the upstream feature is
incomplete without the gnome-settings-daemon patches that haven't been accepted
upstream yet. Also, the upstream gsettings schema for this feature has a
different name than the Ubuntu schema. Didier's plan was to keep using the
Ubuntu schema name until the gnome-settings-daemon patches were accepted. After
that, we'll need a way to migrate the gsettings schema.)

  -> rebasing is done, keeping the same gsettings key than in artful.

- Other Issues
-
- 1. Background panel redesign might get a GNOME 3.28 UI Freeze Exception
- https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=788515
+ 2. Background panel redesign (didn't land for 3.28 so never mind)

- Current patches look like v4 at

+ 3. The default 'faces' (user avatars) were changed and there was an
+ upgrade issue.

- - Not possible to set Lock Screen background
- - Not possible to set a solid color as background
- - It has an "Open Photos app" link at the bottom, but our default photo app
is Shotwell.
-
- 2. The default 'faces' (user avatars) were changed. This breaks existing

- Update: there is a merge proposal for the avatar issue:

  I believe this can be updated independently of gnome-settings-daemon or

[Bug 1752711] Re: cloud-init no longer processes user data on GCE in artful

2018-03-02 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Hello Dan, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cloud-init into artful-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-
init/17.2-35-gf576b2a2-0ubuntu1~17.10.2 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-artful to verification-done-artful. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-artful. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: cloud-init (Ubuntu Artful)

[Bug 1752857] [NEW] 3rd party kernel modules fail to build due to incomplete /usr/src/linux-headers-4.1x.y install?

2018-03-02 Thread RJVB
Public bug reported:

I've been building my own mainline/stock kernels on Ubuntu (technically,
Kubuntu 14.04) for years, using `make-kpkg` from the kernel-package
package. All I had to do after installing the linux-image and linux-
headers packages was to correct the /lib/modules/4.x.y/{source,build}
symlinks so they pointed to the /usr/src/linux-headers-4.x.y directory
instead of to the source tree (which I'd trash because HUGE).

Last kernel I did this with was 4.9.30. Doing the same with 4.15.7 and
4.14.23 works for some 3rd party modules (for instance, ZFS 0.7.6) but
not with others, like the driver for the RTL8812au WIFI adapter (or even
the host kernel extensions from VirtualBox 5.2.8-121009~Ubuntu~trusty
installed from Oracle' own PPA). There, I'm seeing make errors like
this:

```
make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C
/lib/modules/4.14.23-ck1-mainline-core2-rjvb/build
M=/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git  modules
make[1]: Entering directory
\
echo >&2;   \
echo >&2 "  ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid.";   \
echo >&2 " include/generated/autoconf.h or
include/config/auto.conf are missing.";\
echo >&2 " Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel
src to fix it.";  \
echo >&2 ;  \
/bin/false)
mkdir -p /path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/.tmp_versions ; rm -f
/home/bertin/work/src/Scratch/RTL881x/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/.tmp_versions/*
make -f ./scripts/Makefile.build obj=/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git
make[2]: *** No rule to make target
`/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/core/rtw_io.o', needed by
`/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git/8812au.o'. Stop.
make[1]: *** [_module_/path/to/rtl8812au_rtl8821au-git] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/usr/src/linux-headers-4.14.23-ck1-mainline-core2-rjvb'
make: *** [modules] Error 2
```

The builds complete without issue with the source and build symlinks
point my kernel build directory.

Two explanations (both of which probably have some truth):
1. the tree installed in /usr/src/linux-headers-4.1x.y* is somehow incomplete
2. something has to be changed in the 3rd party extension module

I'd go with 2) were it not for the fact that apparently at least one of
the various 8812au driver repos builds just fine against 4.14 and 4.15,
and I must assume that this holds too for VirtualBox. (There are some
reports of the error I'm seeing but in an older version, supposedly
fixed in 5.2.7 .)

The RTL 8812au driver source I'm working with:
github.com/RJVB/rtl8812au_rtl8821au .

I've already updated to the latest kernel-package version (13.018+nmu1), that
didn't solve the issue.

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS, with all LTS updates I'm aware of.

Well, the package now fails with ruby2.5 as default, which was the

not sure if I will be able to do that.

If it continues to fail, I guess I will raise the issue upstream.

[Bug 1730782] Re: [Bug] [KNL] ~5x slowdown of application when attaching by perf on KNL

2018-03-02 Thread Thadeu Lima de Souza Cascardo
A v9 was posted on August 31st, but there is still no progress upstream.
Meanwhile, Peter Zijlstra merged
0d3d73aac2ff05c78387aa9dcc2c8aa3804405e7 ("perf/core: Rewrite event
timekeeping"), which looks like would have helped with this problem.

Can you confirm if the latest bionic kernel, which has this commit,
scales better? If not, what is the plan of pushing this forward
upstream?

Cascardo.

[Bug 1752850] [NEW] bash-completion script prevent direxpand to be effective

2018-03-02 Thread jean paul
Public bug reported:

I am submitting after verifying it is really a bug by asking a question
in askubuntu: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1010931/direxpand-
unexpected-behavior

With the default bash, bash option `direxpand` is unset by default:

shopt direxpand
direxpand   off

So normally when I type:

proc=/proc
ls $proc/

I should see no expansion, but I see

ls /proc/

After investigation it is the bash-completion script which overide
direxpand. I do not know if this could be avoided...

I can confirm after having remove the temporary hack Debian package

issue. The bnx2 firmware files are there and the server comes back up after
reboot with network interfaces working as expected.

Any progress on that issue?

Would it make sense to remove the option `--enable-heterogeneous` until
this is fixed in Open MPI?

[Bug 1752838] [NEW] sometimes neutron-ovs-cleanup runs earlier than ovsdb-server

2018-03-02 Thread Seyeong Kim
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

neutron-ovs-cleanup service runs earlier than ovsdb-server sometimes.

then, neutron-ovs-cleanup service's status remains failed.

that is fine for booting.

but.

If someday upgrade pkgs related to neutron, it runs neutron-ovs-cleanup
again because it is not in active status.

eventually, neutron-ovs-cleanup deletes all ports on running compute
nodes.

[Test Case]

Can't reproduce every time. but it happens in some env.

[Regression]
Changes dependency on
debian/neutron-openvswitch-agent.neutron-ovs-cleanup.service.in
need to reboot if this patch is affected. If this symptom is not affected your
env. no need to reboot.

[Others]
Because there is no reproducer, please consider this dependency changes if it
is proper.

[Bug 1752835] [NEW] gbutils ARM bug (programs freezes)

2018-03-02 Thread Kirill Okhotnikov
Public bug reported:

Dear gbutils developers,

Thank you very much for such excellent set of tools!

I would like to supply a bug in ARM architecture. I found the bug in
gblreg program, but I think, that it affects all the utils.

Step to reproduce:
Ubuntu 16.04 ARM. Run gblreg program on any dataset with any options (except
-h) and the program hangs.

The origin of the bug:
ARM architecture, by default treat char as unsigned variable, so loop
while((opt=getopt_long(argc,argv,"v:hF:M:O:w",gb_long_options,
_option_index))!=EOF)
will be infinite as EOF is -1 and opt is not negative value by the definition.

Possible solution.
1) add -fsigned-char option to compiler. The easiest way, but can affect the
rest of the code possibly creates new bugs.
2) Change char opt to signed char opt.
3) The best way from my point of view is to change char opt to int, as getopt
function returns native.

Sincerely yours,
Kirill Okhotnikov.

[Bug 1522675] Re: Warning messages about unsandboxed downloads

2018-03-02 Thread Norbert
@Adrien Beau (adrienbeau)
you can propose your fix anywhere where you want.
All APT works as root, there is not security hole here. We can trust its HTTP
transport.

By the way Ubuntu developers should understand that annoying bugs should
be fixed as fast as possible as Critical bugs. It does not matter that
such bugs do not result in data loss. Such bugs makes negative
reputation of whole Ubuntu. So they should be fixed.

[Bug 1747705] Re: "ssh_pwauth" always true on CloudStack datasource with password

2018-03-02 Thread Shota Aratono
HI,

I confirmed that I can override ssh_pwauth value with user-data.
But, it's does not fit for my use case.
Since deploing VM is done by user, I can't control user-data.

I think the best solution is cloud-init don't update PasswordAuthentication in
/etc/sshd_config
when ssh_pwauth value is 'unchanged'.
As I wrote before, the root cause is CloudStack datasource overwrites
ssh_pwauth value forcibly.
So I'd like to remove this behavior.

Is it helpful to creating the patch?

[Bug 1752831] [NEW] memcached should disable UDP by default

2018-03-02 Thread Hanno Böck
Public bug reported:

Memcached is currently involved in some massive ddos attacks, see e.g.:
https://blog.cloudflare.com/memcrashed-major-amplification-attacks-from-port-11211/

The UDP protocol of memcached can be abused for very effective DDoS
amplification attacks and should therefore be considered dangerous.
Upstream memcached has reacted to this by disabling UDP by default:
https://github.com/memcached/memcached/wiki/ReleaseNotes156

In Ubuntu memcached by default only listens to 127.0.0.1, but enables
UDP. While the localhost-only protects default settings, it's still only
a minor change away from creating an effective DDoS tool for a protocol
that is hardly in use today. I recommend that Ubuntu backports the
upstream change and disables UDP by default.

[Bug 1752829] [NEW] AMD HAINAN (Radeon R5 M330) Clock speed is 750MHZ while it is supposed to be 1030MHz

2018-03-02 Thread Yassine
Public bug reported:

Kernel source: /drivers/gpu/drm/radeon/si_dpm.c line 2985:

max_sclk = 75000;

instead of

max_sclk = 103000;

Why is that? I changed it and rebuilt the kernel, and I can say that
there are absolutely no issues when using the 1030MHz clock, which is
what it is supposed to be.

Linux Version: 4.13.0-36-generic

[Bug 1424201] Re: Chromium does not use the GPU to decode videos

2018-03-02 Thread Michel-Ekimia
@dino99 : are you working at google on chromium ?

Your argument is pretty wrong, there is Zero impact if this feature is
hidden with a flag that one could enable when deployed.

Today we are stuck because we need to recompile.

Sorry but one could think that google wants to slow DesktopLinux
progress.

[Bug 1752828] [NEW] nfp: fix disabling on hw-tc-offload in flower

2018-03-02 Thread Simon Horman
Public bug reported:

This is a backport request from Netronome for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

This patchset corrects the following behaviour:
1. Add TC filter to hardware while hw-tc-offload is on
2. Switch hw-tc-offload to off using ethtool
3. Filters added to hardware in step 1 are still active but can no longer be
removed.

The upstream solution to this problem is to prohibit switching hw-tc-
offload to off when filters are present in hardware.

The upstream commits, accepted for v4.16, are:
d692403e5cf8 (“nfp: forbid disabling hw-tc-offload on representors while
offload active”)
0b9de4ca853b (“nfp: don't advertise hw-tc-offload on non-port netdevs”)

2018-03-02 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
@Carl - the ddebs help if you need a crash report for example a program
segfaulted.
Then with the ddebs you can get more info of the symbols.
But this BSOD crash is "inside" the guest, the ddebs on the Xen host would hot
add additional information at the moment.

@Carl - stick with .22 - the .23 in proposed is something completely
different.

I was also subscribing SMB as he might have a Xen environment ready to test
things.
@SMB - did you see any regression with the things you usually run?
@SMB - it might need graphics reading "Windows, Live Boot, ..." so if you have
console only guests could you try a graphical one?

[Bug 1752440] Re: Lshw incorrectly detects amount of RAM in system

2018-03-02 Thread Lee Trager
lshw shows two banks of memory but MAAS is still correctly calculating
the output from lshw. There are twelve occurrences of the line 34358689792 which is 384GB. I looked up the part
number reported by lshw, 72ASS8G72LZ-2G3B2. According to [1] each DIM
should be 64G, not 32G. There is a commit upstream [2] which adds
support for DDR4 RAM and another [3] which adds support for larger
amounts of RAM found in DDR4 RAM. As [1] says this module is DDR4 I
suspect the version of lshw in Ubuntu needs both these patches.

@dgrosvenor could you try building lshw in rescue mode to confirm?

sudo apt install git gcc make
git clone https://github.com/lyonel/lshw.git
