I noticed that Gdebi has the same problem, and also the network monitor applet
(which always highlights/selects the IP address).
Maybe worth doing a brainstorming session with the author of these apps, to try

As requested, here are ifconfig and iwconfig run from within dapper.
I've noticed that this has been triaged at a low priority... if the
final version of edgy had this problem, then there would be a few people
who simply couldn't use it. I deleted knot 1 because I couldn't update

I am trying to install Edgy Knot 2 using the live cd onto an intel
machine. When GParted runs as part of the installation it gets stuck
waiting for disks. I looked at the log and it seems that its trying to
read a floppy disk that I do not have.

It is a clean install, on an amd64 machine. I am using the latest
amd64-generic kernel (2.6.17-7 I think). The TTY's don't have anything,

when I use apt, it tells me that a lot of packages (152) are not needed
any longer. Among them are xchat-gnome, mplayer, monodevelop, gazpacho,
glom, abiword, gnumeric and a lot of games. I'd rather keep some of
these :)

I'm on a HP DV2000 laptop, which I think has the same sound hardware. I
can CONFIRM that microphone input does not work for me (despite volumes
being set) and that volume is much lower than windows, just as the
original reporter says.
I wonder what layer this bug is at? Any advice for debugging?
after further investigation i realize it doesn't break things. at one
point i had nautilus removed and i guess i thought it was a direct
effect of removing ubuntu-desktop...anyway i guess this is more of an
RFE or wishlist bug to be able to easily switch between the two. maybe

or did it just stop responding? If the former, can you please attach
/var/log/installer/syslog, /var/log/syslog, and /var/log/partman to this
