[Bug 106958] Re: Network is unstable with Intel 82540EM ethernet card

2007-05-05 Thread Nicolas Dumoulin
Well, my colleague may have found the problem.
It seems that it is a kernel configuration since 2.6.17 that is in cause.
On my machine, and those of my colleague, setting net.ipv4.tcp_rmem works fine.
I've not yet tested on other machines that had similar problem ...

To set this configuration, run :
sudo sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0
Or append net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=0 in /etc/sysctl.conf

It seems (on french forums) that this configuration coulod affect local
wide transfers, in this case, configuration of kernel 2.6.17 is
net.ipv4.tcp_rmem=4096 87380 174760.

[Bug 112528] Re: [Gutsy Merge] krename_3.0.14-0ubuntu1

2007-05-05 Thread Richard Johnson
Hold off on this for the time being. StevenK has brought to my attention
the lack of Debian updates with this package so I have contacted the
original maintainer asking if he would like me to become the Debian
maintainer for this package. If and when this occurs, I will get a new
update into Debian and then request a sync more than likely. Thank you.

[Bug 112535] Alsa fails to detect my audio card

2007-05-05 Thread Thomas Zander
Public bug reported:

[Feisty]

I have a laptop with Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High
Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)

There is a kernel module to support this card named snd-hda-intel

After installing kubuntu I got alsa to detect a sound card; which, well, makes
(proper) sound. But the module was never loaded. And the mixer interface is
totally bogus.
For example; I have just 4 controllers. And the main volume doesn't do
anything. Altering the 'line1' actually makes the main volume change.

I did a 'modprobe' and even put the module name in /etc/modules
but for some reason also stays with the card it found previously. I'm annoyed
that there is no such thing as 'alsaconf' anymore, so I'm stuck.

[Bug 32415] Re: Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard Broken in Dapper/Edgy/Feisty

2007-05-05 Thread Eugene Lazutkin
BTW, it is not Logitech specific --- I have this problem with Miscrosoft
 Bluetooth mouse.

Does it have a broadcomm-based usb receiver?

It uses the built-in Bluetooth module in my notebook.

This working for me just fine.
sudo dpkg -r linux-image-2.6.22-2-386
If you take a look true all discussion you will find many answers you
need. You xserver can't start because you use restricted video_driver
which need restricted kernel module. You can try opensource driver to
make use of this kernel.

[Bug 38538] Re: man pages suggest info pages that don't exist.

Heh, thanks Jon, but I really can't claim to have been doing anything
other than sitting on my butt on this one... I've just been waiting 'til
I had enough time to give it proper attention; Phillip's the one who
went to make an inquiry this time, and it appears that others have also
been working on a solution for a bit now.

But yeah, I'm at least interested in seeing the documentation's
statement as to what the right way is to find the infopage, be the right
thing again :)

[Bug 112538] control arrow keys broken in bash

2007-05-05 Thread gratefulfrog
Public bug reported:

On AMD64, fully up to date.

In a bash shell window.

Normally, control-arrow (left or right) jumps the cursor 1 word. This is
now broken, there is an error beep and this is what I get if I type ls
space -al space toto ctrl-LeftArrow

$ ls -al toto;5D

This problem exists since the upgrade to Feisty. It's very annoying but
not preventing me from appreciating the great work that the Ubuntu team
is doing.

I only wish I could help myself!

Cheers,
GF.

2007-05-05 Thread hadriw
Please forgive my bad explanation, I'm spanish and I'm in London
learning English.. But how you can see...

This is a trick who another mate explained before than me. The trick is quite
simple. After first error is showed on totem. (internal data flow error), the
window remains opened so you can play the movide again but you will get the
same error.
Instead of doing one click on the play button, you can do 3 clicks in one
second. (play - Pause - Play again) and you will be able to watch the film
with the subtitles.

Sorry about my mistake.

Re: [Bug 110724] Re: OpenOffice runs as root for all users

2007-05-05 Thread Matthew Wardrop
:$... Sorry - that is quite embarrassing.

The two you are after are:
1000 8526 0.0 0.0 1712 520 ?S17:56 0:00 /bin/sh
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice -writer -splash-pipe=5
root 8544 5.4 6.1 174012 63372 ?Sl 17:56 0:01
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice.bin.bin -writer -splash-pipe=5

The shell wrapper soffice is being run by me, and then, without any
authentication prompt (in any case), soffice.bin.bin (the actual OOo
process) is being triggered to run as root.

Any ideas?

Kind Regards,
Matthew

[Bug 112544] Click on next or previous email do not work well

2007-05-05 Thread Lonepsi
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Hello,
I am using Evolution 2.10.1 under Ubuntu Festy Faon.

When I click on the button suivant or précédent (French user! ) (that is
next or previous ) while reading an email,
I don't get the next or previous email of my current list sorted per day or per
name, whatever else.

It seems that the next or previous email I get is the next or previous
that has been loaded in the database.

For instance, the first email loaded is the welcoming one coming from Evolution
itself when you launched it for the first time.
when I open this email, the previous button is shaded, the next button is
active whatever the kind of sort used.

The same for the last message I got but the previous button is active,
the next button is inactive.

About sorting par date, it don't work because I loaded the database of
Evolution with several counts and repertories coming from outlook. Then,
the order of the loading is not the order of the date of the messages
(huh ? I am not very clear, isn't it ? Sorry for my approximate
English).

2007-05-05 Thread Václav Čermák

Pokud si ještě pan Čermák a další vůbec vidí do pusy vzhledem ke

spolupracovat. Pokud to nedokážete, zvažte prosím, zda Vaše jednání není v
rozporu s CoC a zda vůbec něčemu pozitivnímu slouží.

Re: [Bug 112465] Re: restricted != nesvobodn ý - uzavřený

2007-05-05 Thread Václav Čermák
Citace z odkazu od pana Tomeše:

The term open source software is used by some people to mean more or less
the same category as free software. It is not exactly the same class of
software: they accept some licenses that we consider too restrictive, and
there are free software licenses they have not accepted. However, the
differences in extension of the category are small: nearly all free software
is open source, and nearly all open source software is free.

  restricted/proprietary/non-free software.

 http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/categories.html

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Free_Software_Definition
 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Source_Definition

jednoho termínu, aby to náhodou nemátlo o několik řádů více užvatelů
anglické verze, a pak to překládejte jedním výrazem i do češtiny.

[Bug 112546] update managfer Could not calculate the upgrade to Feisty

2007-05-05 Thread Frank Murphy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

There are a number of likely duplicates, but from the apt logs, this
does seem like a different problem. This computer has been upgraded
since at least Breezy. I'll attach the needed logs in a second, but I
don't see any errors.

[Bug 112549] entries not removed from 'Applications' menu on uninstall

2007-05-05 Thread John Pye
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: wine

I have used a few different windows binary installers for various
packages. A good example is DocFrac (http://docfrac.sf.net). These
installers work fine, and the uninstall completes without incident, but
the entries in my GNOME 'Applications' menu remain even after the
application has been uninstalled.

Obviously something's broken on not implemented here in the auto-sync of
GNOME menu and Windows Program Manager / Start Menu / whatever.

And how do I force these lurking entries to be removed, btw?

Cheers

  * Unicode cleanups with wnpp Owner: header handling. (Closes: #407122)
  * Update the pseudo-packages list. (Closes: #418759). Note that reportbug

virtual packages to the user's installed kernel (or a choice thereof),
providing more accurate reports than simply falling into the 'kernel'
bucket.

A namíchne ho
to o to samozřejmě víc, když toho udělá více, než všichni ostatní
dohromady.

Martinovi a dalším to zřejmě docvaklo až v těchto dnech, kdy mění svou
rétoriku v konferenci. Proč prostě nepřijde a nepřizná: Dělal jsem to
blbě, šlo to dělat lépe, Petr Tomeš a další měl evidetně pravdu a
myslel to dobře. Téměř veškeré vaše přispění přišlo díky mému
pochybení vniveč při dalších vydáních, kdy Rosetta není schopna dobře
zládnout import řetězců všech balíků z předhcozích vydání a sloučit to
s upstreamem.

Pokud se dokážete zdržet svých urážlivých poznámek, lze s Vámi
spolupracovat. Pokud to nedokážete, zvažte prosím, zda Vaše jednání není v
rozporu s CoC a zda vůbec něčemu pozitivnímu slouží.

No a co kdybychom se všichni sešli u stolu a začli jednat věcně, jak
to řešit. A

vysvětlováním postupu lokalizace upstreamu a vyjednat s ním spolupráci
vůbec schopen vymyslet nějaký postup přispívání a spolupráce. To by
l10, resp. k diskusi nad terminologií a jejím sjednocením a ustálením.

Re: [Bug 112465] Re: restricted != nesvobodn ý - uzavřený

2007-05-05 Thread Petr Tomeš
5.5.07, Václav Čermák [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
Citace z odkazu od pana Tomeše:

The term open source software is used by some people to mean more or less
the same category as free software. It is not exactly the same class of
software: they accept some licenses that we consider too restrictive, and
there are free software licenses they have not accepted. However, the
differences in extension of the category are small: nearly all free software
is open source, and nearly all open source software is free.

nsvobodný bude lepší, tak ať použije standardní prostředky k tomu a
přesvědčí tvůrce, aby to přejmenovali na non-free.

[Bug 89896] Re: [herd-5] no wlan0 device after loading ndiswrapper

2007-05-05 Thread Andreas Gnau
odolühi, use the latest ndiswrapper (currently this is 1.43) and
uninstall the drivers and install the latest drivers from Atheros.

golfbuf, your problem isn't related to this bug, nor is it a bug. You
have to use the correct driver. Use a 32bit-driver if you are running a
32it-Ubuntu (i386). (If you plan to use ndiswrapper under amd64, use a
64bit-driver.)

Garo, your issue sounds more like a network-manager issue, network-manager
sometimes interferes with ifup/down.
Instead of sudo modprobe -r ndiswrapper; sudo modprobe ndiswrapper use sudo
ifdown wlan0; sudo ifup wlan0 and report if this works.

[Bug 91132] Re: screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot

2007-05-05 Thread Thomas Sperre
Finally I have managed to trap more information on this bug. Here is
from my /var/log/messages in the past few days. What you see at the top
of the list is the npviewer segfault, and you can see that this is not
fatal, at least not directly by any means, as the computer kept running
apparently normally for more than three hours afterwards. Then suddenly
at three o'clock in the night, something not usual takes place. I cannot
understand what is going on - but you can also see that when I returned
to the computer the following afternoon I had to restart it to get
something done.

[Bug 112552] Packages containing a tilde are deleted by clean.sh

2007-05-05 Thread Tony Whitmore
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt-mirror

Using apt-mirror on Ubuntu 6.10. I am using apt-mirror to mirror 7.04
AMD64 and i386 repositories. All files are successfully downloaded into
the mirror. The clean.sh file created to remove unnecessary files is
created containing all directories with packages containing tildes,
including acct, cdparanoia, openoffice.org-dictionaries, darcs and many
more. Running the script deletes these files, however they are not
unnecessary as they are re-downloaded the next time apt-mirror is run.

These files are therefore being incorrectly identified for deletion by
apt-mirror (which creates the clean.sh script). The only thing I can see
in common between the deleted files are that they all contain a tilde
(~) in the package name, e.g openoffice.org-hyphenation-
hu_2.0.4~rc1-3ubuntu1_all.deb. This leads me to suspect that packages
containing a tilde are incorrectly identified by apt-mirror as not
necessary, partial downloads or temp files.

** Affects: apt-mirror (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Unconfirmed
