[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server

2008-06-07 Thread Philipp Kaluza
Blueprint changed by Philipp Kaluza:

Whiteboard changed to:

2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks
spec?

21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and
then create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want

13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of
these solutions and have some professional experience in it.

2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project
ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork
called bongo project. However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's
LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution
for SmallBusinessServer.

I have just upgraded to Evolution 2.22.2-0ubuntu1.2 and evolution-data-

[Bug 238062] [NEW] mlocate package doesn't install /etc/updatedb.conf

2008-06-07 Thread Myk Melez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mlocate

According to the list of files in the mlocate package
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/i386/mlocate/filelist, it provides
/etc/updatedb.conf. But after I upgraded from Feisty to Hardy (8.04),
updatedb stopped working, and eventually I figured out that it was
because the mlocate package, which has replaced the previous
implementation of locate, didn't replace the previous implementation's
/etc/updatedb.conf file with its own, and it doesn't understand the old
conf file:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo updatedb

Even when I moved the old file out of the way and reinstalled mlocate,
it still didn't install the file:

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against

[Bug 238061] [NEW] time: Time does not parse its parameters

2008-06-07 Thread Marco R
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: time

This is a cut and paste from a bug reported on the debian bug tracking
system. since this bug hasn't been fixed in about one year and is also
present in ubuntu, I am reporting it here. Maybe someone here will know
how to fix it.

From: Martin Jambor [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: Debian Bug Tracking System [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: time: Time does not parse its parameters
Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2006 16:21:02 +0200

Package: time
Version: 1.7-21
Severity: important

Time does not parse its own parameters and treats everything on the
command line like the program it should run and its parameters.

For example the following works:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp/randwrite$ time bash /dev/null

real0m0.005s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.004s

But this does not:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/tmp time -f %e bash /dev/null
bash: -f: command not found

real0m0.002s
user0m0.000s
sys 0m0.000s

OTOH, I suspect this might be a bash issue because I have just found
out that /usr/bin/time works as expected.

TIA

Martin

You can read the debian bug report page for details. But a simple
workaround is to use the command /usr/bin/time instead of just time.
If it is not corrected, it would at least be nice to mention this in the

[Bug 49613] Re: Flash content always on top of web pages

2008-06-07 Thread jamescridland
As a reporter of a bug marked as identical, I'm concerned that the bug I
reported is not identical.

Take a look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ at the top right-hand side, and
you'll note that the clock has an unpleasant black background (unlike
Windows/Mac). It should be a mostly transparent clock.

To my view, this is immaterial as to whether Flash is on top (don't
care in this case as long as transparency works).

Do I need to report a *separate* bug again?

[Bug 238064] [NEW] can't change screen resolution from GUI after xserver-xgl install

2008-06-07 Thread drink
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xgl

Hardy, xserver-xgl, nvidia-glx-new (currently 169.12)
Try to change screen resolution, either via nvidia-settings or
gnome-display-properties, and get back an error. nvidia-settings says it's not
the nvidia driver. gnome-display-properties says the server doesn't support
XRandR.
You can change the screen resolution by saying
DISPLAY=:0 nvidia-settings
or of course gnome-display-properties. However, the window manager and gnome
theming are on display :1, so the windows are undecorated and unthemed, and
apps seem not to notice that the resolution has changed (for example
avant-window-navigator becomes offscreen if I reduce resolution.)

[Bug 12445] Re: right-click behaviour with gnome menu

2008-06-07 Thread Rich_phoenix
I never used nautilus. I installed it to see if it would deal with my
ftp places in the Places menu and, since I hadn't used it before,
nothing came up (even trying to import an unknown name from an unknown
folder...). I was back to square one. It took hours but I found the non-
nautilus solution.

Places - Network - Bookmarks - Edit Bookmarks - (select the
appropriate one) - Remove

worked great. And yes, a right-click menu would be better than that.

Thanks, it fixed my full screen mode in AisleRiot.

2008/5/30 jamesrldoux [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I had the same problem with gnome-mines, but I solved it manually.
Start up gconf-editor and search for gnomine (assume its the same for
 aisleriot).
Went to /apps/gnomine and unclicked FullScreen and changed height and
width from 1680x1050 (which is full screen for me) to something smaller.
 Fixed the problem for me.

Tested with last kernel 2.6.24-19-generic at hardy-proposed.

Strange, dmesg shows a couple of cx22702_readreg errors, but the card

unloading and loading the modules in a different order again.

I had the same problem. After spending HOURS AND HOURS on it. (partially
finding out that they were REFERED to as Bookmarks, then fighting with the Help
program (refering to how individual Applications deal with bookmarks).
I found the answer.

Places - Network - Bookmarks - Edit Bookmarks - (select the ftp
server you want removed) - Remove

Seems rather common sensical, but yes, I agree, a rightclick would work
alot better,

[Bug 238067] Re: Network/SMB browsing has issues

2008-06-07 Thread Brandon Powers
Correction:

In item #5, you do not see all the share contents as expected. You see
N-1 files/folders, as compared to browsing using the server IP address,
where you see N files/folders, where N is the actual total number of
files/folders in the share.

In one share I'm missing a file, in another I'm missing a folder. There
are no special permissions assigned to these missing items, and they are
not uniquely named.

Hi,

It's been quite a while since this bug was reported, with no activity in
quite some time. I know there were problems in the past related to
toshiba_acpi in Ubuntu. Is this still a problem for you?

[Bug 217908] Re: Images in Firefox are extremely pixeled when zoomed

2008-06-07 Thread ubuntu_demon
I am also affected. I have an intel 945 graphics chipset. I have
attached my lspci -nn.

This issue is known upstream :
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411831

I discovered the upstream bug because it was listed between the known issues
for Firefox RC2 in the Linux and Unix section as a problem with the nvidia
driver :
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0rc2/releasenotes/#issues

I found a comment which is potentially interesting :
from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411831#c101 :

[quote=Luke Hutchison ]
If anybody is wondering why this bug magically fixed itself in their distro
recently, it's because Ubuntu and Fedora have inverted the default behavior of
the XAANoOffscreenPixmaps option.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/182038/comments/111

In case you're trying to debug this, you may need one of the following options
to bring back the broken behavior:

Option XAANoOffscreenPixmaps false
Option XAAOffscreenPixmaps true

Seems like sweeping things under the rug to me :o)

[Bug 238061] Re: time: Time does not parse its parameters

2008-06-07 Thread Mika Fischer
Hi Marco,

thanks for taking the time to report this issue.

This behavior - annoying as it may be - is however entirely expected.

Quoting from the bash manpage:
   Pipelines
A pipeline is a sequence of one or more commands separated by the char‐
acter |. The format for a pipeline is:

  [time [-p]] [ ! ] command [ | command2 ... ]
[...]
If the time reserved word precedes a pipeline, the elapsed as well as
user and system time consumed by its execution are reported when the
pipeline terminates. The -p option changes the output format to that
specified by POSIX. The TIMEFORMAT variable may be set to a format
   string that specifies how the timing information should  be  displayed;
see the description of TIMEFORMAT under Shell Variables below.

So bash has an internal version of time and it only accepts -p as a
parameter.

/usr/bin/time is a separate program, and, as you noticed, it works
correctly if you make sure *it* is called and not bash's version.

If you specifically want to change the output format, the bash variable
TIMEFORMAT may be of use to you. See also question G4 of the bash FAQ
here: http://tiswww.case.edu/php/chet/bash/FAQ

As for documenting this in the manpage, it already is. Quoting from time(1):
Users of the bash shell need to use an explicit path in order to run the
external time command and not the shell builtin variant. On system where time
is installed in /usr/bin, the first example would become /usr/bin/time wc
/etc/hosts

I hope this clears everyhting up :)

[Bug 238040] Re: it's not convenient to use

2008-06-07 Thread Connor Imes
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Switching from one screen to another doesn't work any more

2008-06-07 Thread Kay
I added my Xorg.0.log and xorg.conf.

Commenting out the Twinview horizontal option in the xorg.conf, sets
this option to the default value none. This way the tablet is mapped
to both screen. So I can reach the second screen, but using a 3:4 tablet
on a 3:8 screen is not handy.

Using both, the Twinview horizontal and ScreenNo 1 options,
results in a mapping only to the left screen, as one could expect, but
setting ScreenNo 2 does not map the tablet to the right screen. It
just adds a small displacement of the mapping of about 8 pixels to the
right, so that I can no longer reach the left edge of the left screen,
but the 8 leftmost pixels of the right screen. The same happens if I
comment out the ScreenNo option.

I tried to comment out the ForceDevice ISDV4 which is set by
default, but the problem still remained.

[Bug 223081] Re: Hardy kernel causes overheating

2008-06-07 Thread Janne Moren
Tried 2.6.26-18. It is the worst kernel so far. With -16 I can usually
work for most of a day if I'm a bit careful about what I run (nothing
that will peg the CPU for an extended period). With -18 I have not yet
managed to stay up for more than two hours, and usually much less.

I have by the way also tried shifting between the intel and the i810
drivers. No effect.

This is not the best system upgrade I have experienced to date.

2008/6/7 Fhoex [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

I too use Ubuntu 8.04 - Hardy Heron and aMule 2.2.0 snv 20080218-0ubuntu4
 the error is:

Logger.cpp(269): Error: Impossible to set permissions for the file ...

but! I have a partition in FAT32, despite the mistake let me download
files without any problem because the error appears in part.met.bak
and part.bak but not in it . part, format this partition again
because fat32 I share with the windows with gparted, but the error
 persists, not to be.

Note: if you change the folder to a partition ext3 or ext2 works
wonderfully, but could share with windows and eMule = (

[Bug 132060] Re: [feisty] network-manager-openvpn doesn't work when using x509 and private key file has password

2008-06-07 Thread tjahn
I am using Hardy Heron with network-manager-openvpn
0.3.2svn2342-1ubuntu4. Using a passphrase with blanks did not work for
me. It took me a while to reach this bug report which has drawn my
attention to the blanks in the passphrase. Trying without blanks solved
my problem.

As far as I can see, the problem with blanks in passphrases still
exists.

[Bug 209911] Re: [Hardy] Mousing from one screen to another with tablet doesn't work any more

2008-06-07 Thread Kay
Oh, sorry. I just forgot to add the model I am using. It is the CTE-640,
so it is not the A6, but the A5 Version. I am using Xubuntu, not ubuntu.
We have a second computer here running ubuntu (not xubuntu) with an
older graphire ET-0405A-U, which shows the same problem after the
upgrade to Hardy.

I am new in reporting bugs. Does anything change for me, when you submit
the bug to upstream, or do I still get all information here in
launchpad?

[Bug 139057] Re: Should try given password for next partition

2008-06-07 Thread Florent Xicluna
Hi, i had a similar problem on my laptop:
* I have 2 encrypted partitions: sda5 and sda6:
   /dev/sda5 - swap partition
   /dev/sda6 - mapped to /var (with binding /var/home - /home)
* Both partitions use the same password
* I use uswsusp for hibernate/resume features
* The initramfs step asks me for password at bootup: swap partition only
* Later the init script ask me again for the password of the /var partition

I think it makes sense to decrypt all filesystem in /etc/crypttab at the
initramfs step.
Here is the patch I have tested on my laptop:
* it decrypts all /etc/crypttab partitions at initramfs stage
* it tries to unlock with same password all partitions.
* it works both with usplash and with console bootup

After doing the changes, execute sudo update-initramfs -u

[Bug 238077] [NEW] sorting of I, II, III in file titels

2008-06-07 Thread LAZA
Public bug reported:

instead of:

I found a solution to make my device work under any Hardy kernel

But I could only make it work using wicd, network manager doesn't seem
to connect, but then with wicd it works nearly flawlessy!

[Bug 29560] Re: drag drop improvement: delay bringing window to front until mouse released

2008-06-07 Thread perfran
I think the importance of this bug should be higher than Wishlist because
it's a big usability issue for a such common thing.
Is there anything that ubuntu developers could do to accelerate the resolution
of this bug upstream?
Thanks

Thanks for your comments. This does not appear to be a bug report as
such. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make
more sense to raise your question in the support tracker.

[Bug 238069] Re: user.log

2008-06-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively [WWW]
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
