[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server
Blueprint changed by Stuart Cianos: Whiteboard changed to: 2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks spec? é 21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and then create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want 13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of these solutions and have some professional experience in it. 2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork called bongo project. However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution for SmallBusinessServer. 2008-06-08 (Guy Van Sanden) Citadel seems a very good choice. IT offers many features (including a Jabber server) and is completely GPL'ed. The only caveat is that it does not have LDAP support (yet) 2008-06-19 (Art Cancro) -- yes, definitely go with Citadel. Ubuntu packages are already being maintained, and the project would be delighted to cooperate with the Ubuntu team on integration issues. 2008-06-19 (Todd Hanna) I would also like to give a big +1 to Citadel. They already have the .debs and there is even a connector to use it as an Exchange replacement if you have clients using Outlook. I have run it without issue on Ubuntu server since version 6.06. It's head and shoulders above the rest at the moment.. and it is easy to setup, update, and maintain. 2008-07-08 (Stuart Cianos) - I'll also give major points to Citadel, and have been a longtime user of it. It is the only open-source groupware package that is self maintaining and straightforward to configure. 2008-07-09 (Stephan Buys) - Please also dont forget Kolab (Citadel implements the Kolab v1 format). Kolab has 3 plugins for Outlook, support Horde Webmail, Thunderbird/Lightning and Kontact. 2008-07-09 (Guy Van Sanden) RE Kolab - Kolab is not a full groupware AFAIK, it does not have a web interface. Correct me if I'm wrong. 2008-07-09 (Christian Merlin) Remember also SOGo (http://sogo.opengroupware.org/) it use LDAP for users and PostgreSQL for database. So It could be easy to integrate with Ebox (http://ebox- platform.com/). So Ubuntu can became an'easy and powerfull groupware server like the commercial one. 2008-07-10 (Stephan Buys) Kolab does have a web interface (for admin and email) through Horde (www.horde.org). Calendars, Contacts and Tasks can be shared between Outlook/Kontact/Horde/Thunderbird 2008-07-10 - Personally I prefer bongo, however it is still in its infancy. It has a great UI, and is targeted at being simple to install and use 2008-11-14 - (Guy Van Sanden) Zarafa is becoming an option too. It was AGPL'd recently and offers many features including CalDAV in the upcoming 6.30 release. 2008-11-14 - (Stuart Cianos) Only the server-side components of Zarafa were opened up... There are still numerous proprietary functions that are unavailable in the AGPL version. There are plenty of completely open solutions out there (Horde, Citadel, Kolab, etc.) Personally, I use Citadel (with Funambol for push e-mail) due to its funtionality, reliability, speed and flexibility... They also have a fantastic developer/user community that is supportive and communicative. 2008-11-15 - (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart Cianos Actually most of it seems to be in the AGPL version except for the client license required for Outlook usage. Which is logical, if you are paying for closed source outlook you should also pay for the connector... I know about citadel, have been running it for 2 years but it does have some issues and lacks certain features like LDAP integration. 2008-11-16 (Stuart Cianos) @Guy Van Sanden: Citadel will allow you to authenticate against any service which support the underlying authentication of the operating system (in this case, PAM). I have used this to authenticate users against PAM using modules such as pam_ldap; additionally, it can automatically populate an LDAP directory with information from its global address book for use with external clients. -- Groupware Server https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/groupware-server -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

It appears that this problem affects me as well. I have Intrepid Ibex 2.6.27-7-generic kernel. Since upgrade to Intrepid, I cannot access samba folders. My samba server is 2.0 (shipped with OpenWrt). I am mounting with simple fstab line: //asus-router/torrents /mnt/torrents smbfs user, username=user, password=** 0 0 Like the initial reporter, I can mount and browse share fine, but cannot read/write files (all other rights are OK). [Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down
@Max-Ulrich Farber I disagree and I don't think you can speak for others like that. Considering the Linux kernel and Samba itself are shared between hundreds of Linux distributions and that Samba is basically the same (in this context) on other operating systems such as FreeBSD etc., it is clear that its the responsibility of the distribution especially considering scripts existed already and were simply executed at the wrong stage of the shutdown sequence. 'Who' wants to take responsibility is kind of irrelevant here considering fixes are available and we are only asking for 1 of these to be committed as opposed to 'someone take the blame will you'. -- CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/211631 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 297675] Re: catalina.policy and bootstrap.jar should be copied on soft linked
Eclipse uses installed tomcat, but create in fact it's own user instance, e.g. it creates separate server.xml, catalina.policy, catalina.properties, context.xml, tomcat-users.xml and web.xml configuration files. So, when configure installed runtime, it can be pointed to system installation (unpacked zip). There are also can be system configuration, but in Eclipse it might be redefined, so it can use another port, another polices and so on. One condition it requires a valid tomcat installation. When creating server runtime in eclipse, it requires bootstrap.jar in bin. When deploying application it requires catalina.policy file which used as initial catalina.policy for user installation. What i can say: - i don't need any specific parameter to boot, i'm just waiting about 20 seconds - when i start my desktop, all is ok and the led on the ethernet port is on (green light), then boot process start and AT THIS TIME the led turn off (so, no more net). - booting in verbose mode (without quiet and splash), i see that boot process hang when it try to identify eth0, but can't because ethernet port is off, ... waiting about 20 seconds, then the led move to 'orange light' and the boot process goes on. It seems that something is wrong with the modules load order. i've filled a bug about some of them: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/296710 ** Attachment added: kern.log http://launchpadlibrarian.net/19688062/kern.log -- System freezes during boot, unless I hold a key down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/272247 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 285604] Re: P4M90-M4 motherboard not well supported
Hey there everyone. The part about which I am uncertain is the after a failed autodetection. As I mentioned, I altered my xorg.conf file shortly after installing Hardy, and Intrepid was an upgrade via Update Manager, so I believe it remained as I left it. The graphics work now, that's all I can say, so I imagine that it is autodetecting properly now. [Sound is still a bit sketchy, but I don't know if that is the motherboard or recent bugs involving ALSA.] In any event, the file you requested does exist, and I am attaching it here, but I don't know if it will help you at all. [Bug 298619] [NEW] please ship amd64 kernel for i386 architecture
Public bug reported: I just installed Intrepid on my Core 2 Quad system. Core 2 has AMD64 support (or EM64T as Intel calls it). As a developer of software, I'm interested in being able to build my programs in 64bit to check for portability. For this reason, I tried out the 64bit Intrepid. There were a lot of issues and headaches with that, so I decided to go back to 32bit. I still wanted to be able to build and run 64bit binaries though, so I had the idea of installing the appropriate libc/gcc packages for amd64 (which exist) and then installing the appropriate kernel image (which does not exist). I was able to download linux- image-2.6.27-8-generic_2.6.27-8.17_amd64.deb from the mirror and install it using dpkg --force-architecture. I booted, and everything is copacetic. Even the initramfs was generated properly (with what I assume is a mix of 32bit userspace utilities and 64bit kernel modules). I don't have any hardware that requires restricted modules, so I didn't need to worry about that — if I did, perhaps things wouldn't be so happy right now. I've heard that there are some specific issues with running a system like this (for example, that the usbfs interface doesn't have the correct 64/32bit thunks in place) but I've yet to encounter a single issue. Certainly it's working well enough to be useful. The problem seems to be this: the appropriate icons are misplaced either by design (it would be an upstream problem then) or during compiliation on Ubuntu. The appropriate icons are installed to: /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/l10n/hicolor/rkward.png (the same for other icon sizes: 64x64 and others) while they should go to /usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/rkward.png If you move the icons to the right place, they appear in the menu. Also the there are two other icons missing in the UI: One for „dataset“ and one for „script file“ I guess the problem with those icons is, that they are generic KDE icons and not those installed with rkward (in KDE3 they look like source.png and spreadsheet.png, though I may be wrong too), and when installed on KDE4 they are not found somehow. -- No menu icon https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186451 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 298632] [NEW] marking/highligting files in Gnome-Comander 1.2.6 is seriously broken!
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-commander I am using latest Gnome-Commander 1.2.6 in latest Ubuntu 8.10. This has a set of very serious usability bugs: a) the files that you see on the screen as marked/highligted are not necessarily the ones that are internaly marked and then processed by gnome commander. Here is a sample scenario: I downloaded archive files from the internet. In Gnome Commander, I click on one of these archive files with the right mouse button and from the context menu, I choose to extract the files (only one file is in the archive) inside. The file will be extracted (good) and now I want to delete the archive, as it is no more needed. The archive is still highlighted, so I just click F8, to delete the curent highlighted file. However, not the highlighted file is being deleted, but the *extracted* file. I can correct this, when I move the cursor to the next file and then back to the previous file between the extracting and the deletion by pressing f8. Also in otehr cases it seems that gnome commander internaly thinks that other files are marked than those that are visualy marked on screen. b) When you press insert repeatedly, you would expect that file by file the files are marked, one by every key press, without gap. However, instead, the file marking will happen with serious (unwanted) gaps between the files. Also in other cases, it is not always sure that files are marked that one wants to mark. c) The combination of a+b makes it very dangerous to delete files with gnome commander. GC is the only program that gives me pain with Ubuntu (I dont want to install KDE, because I don't like KDE4) and I have to suffer a lot with it because of these errors in the last few days, but the event which finaly drove me to write this bug report is that a combination of a+b just resulted in that I lost a precious collection of some GB of files. Error a+b would have a milder effect, if Gnome Commander would delete to the recycle bin, however, they delete without any chance to recover the files. So, on top and independent of a+b, I sugest that you also offer an option to delete to the recycle bin and switch this option on by default. Thank you Kaibuntu ** Affects: gnome-commander (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- marking/highligting files in Gnome-Comander 1.2.6 is seriously broken! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298632 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 294610] Re: [intrepid]rkward 0.5.0b-2 in Intrepid Ibex starts but doesn't work. No icons no starting page
I had the same problem, and it just disappeared yesterday, perhaps after the latest kde updates and reinstall of rkward... do not know why. But here is my try to explain: If you compile rkward from source using the command sequence cmake . make make install Rkward gets installed in /usr/local/ and all the menu items and start page are visible. However, if I try to install it to /usr by following the install instructions and build it with cmake . -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$KDEDIR I get it installed in / instead, however weird it might sound. And I get the problems described here: missing menu items and no start page so I did echo $KDEDIR and got an empty string then I rebuild rkward with cmake . -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr and everything was fine again. So I can simulate the problem, but it does not help me to explain, why did the problem suddenly go away. -- [intrepid]rkward 0.5.0b-2 in Intrepid Ibex starts but doesn't work. [Bug 298619] Re: please ship amd64 kernel for i386 architecture
Two things worth noting (for sake of documentation): 1) Currently amd64 is at -8 but i386 is at -7. This means that (by luck) there is no problem putting the amd64 kernel on my i386 system. Of course, this is probably not usually the case. 2) One problem with this: autoconf looks at uname -m and guesses that my build (and therefore host) system is x86_64. This results in the wrong thing happening in a lot of cases, unless I override it with --build=i686-unknown-linux-gnu. I suspect this to be an autoconf issue. -- please ship amd64 kernel for i386 architecture https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/298619 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
