[Bug 298680] [NEW] samba restart broken in intrepid

2008-11-16 Thread c.bubel
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: samba

Hello, I found a strange Bug in Intrepid today. When i try to restart my
perfectly working samba I get the following:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# /etc/init.d/samba restart
 * Stopping Samba daemons
  [ OK ]
 * Starting Samba daemons
  [ OK ]

but samba status says:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# /etc/init.d/samba status
 * nmbd is running.
 * smbd is not running.

The log shows this:

[2008/11/16 12:51:42, 0] smbd/server.c:main(1213)
  smbd version 3.2.3 started.
Copyright Andrew Tridgell and the Samba Team 1992-2008

[2008/11/16 12:51:42, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_connect(68)
Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost:631 - Connection refused

After a full reboot of the machine samba works again.

This seems to be the same problem: http://ubuntu-
ky.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=970160

And to ensure my smb.conf is not messed up:

[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server

2008-11-16 Thread Stuart Cianos
Blueprint changed by Stuart Cianos:

Whiteboard changed to:

2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks spec?
é
21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and then
create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want

13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of
these solutions and have some professional experience in it.

2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project
ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork
called bongo project. However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's
LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution
for SmallBusinessServer.

2008-06-08 (Guy Van Sanden) Citadel seems a very good choice. IT offers many
features (including a Jabber server) and is completely GPL'ed.
The only caveat is that it does not have LDAP support (yet)

2008-06-19 (Art Cancro) -- yes, definitely go with Citadel. Ubuntu
packages are already being maintained, and the project would be
delighted to cooperate with the Ubuntu team on integration issues.

2008-06-19 (Todd Hanna) I would also like to give a big +1 to Citadel.
They already have the .debs and there is even a connector to use it as
an Exchange replacement if you have clients using Outlook. I have run
it without issue on Ubuntu server since version 6.06. It's head and
shoulders above the rest at the moment.. and it is easy to setup,
update, and maintain.

2008-07-08 (Stuart Cianos) - I'll also give major points to Citadel, and
have been a longtime user of it. It is the only open-source groupware
package that is self maintaining and straightforward to configure.

2008-07-09 (Stephan Buys) - Please also dont forget Kolab (Citadel
implements the Kolab v1 format). Kolab has 3 plugins for Outlook,
support Horde Webmail, Thunderbird/Lightning and Kontact.

2008-07-09 (Guy Van Sanden) RE Kolab - Kolab is not a full groupware
AFAIK, it does not have a web interface. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2008-07-09 (Christian Merlin) Remember also SOGo
(http://sogo.opengroupware.org/) it use LDAP for users and PostgreSQL
for database. So It could be easy to integrate with Ebox (http://ebox-
platform.com/). So Ubuntu can became an'easy and powerfull groupware
server like the commercial one.

2008-07-10 (Stephan Buys) Kolab does have a web interface (for admin and
email) through Horde (www.horde.org). Calendars, Contacts and Tasks can
be shared between Outlook/Kontact/Horde/Thunderbird

2008-07-10 - Personally I prefer bongo, however it is still in its
infancy. It has a great UI, and is targeted at being simple to install
and use

2008-11-14 - (Guy Van Sanden) Zarafa is becoming an option too. It was
AGPL'd recently and offers many features including CalDAV in the
upcoming 6.30 release.

2008-11-14 - (Stuart Cianos) Only the server-side components of Zarafa
were opened up... There are still numerous proprietary functions that
are unavailable in the AGPL version. There are plenty of completely open
solutions out there (Horde, Citadel, Kolab, etc.) Personally, I use
Citadel (with Funambol for push e-mail) due to its funtionality,
reliability, speed and flexibility... They also have a fantastic
developer/user community that is supportive and communicative.

2008-11-15 - (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart Cianos Actually most of it seems to be
in the AGPL version except for the client license required for Outlook usage.
Which is logical, if you are paying for closed source outlook you should also
pay for the connector...
I know about citadel, have been running it for 2 years but it does have some
issues and lacks certain features like LDAP integration.

2008-11-16 (Stuart Cianos) @Guy Van Sanden: Citadel will allow you to
authenticate against any service which support the underlying
authentication of the operating system (in this case, PAM). I have used
this to authenticate users against PAM using modules such as pam_ldap;
additionally, it can automatically populate an LDAP directory with
information from its global address book for use with external clients.

[Bug 296349] Re: logwatch replaces hostname with number

2008-11-16 Thread Nathan Crawford
Logwatch.pl in version 7.3.6.cvs20080702-1ubuntu3 has a typo around line
940:

This causes syntax errors in the rest of the file.

The closing bracket for the unless statement should be a )

[Bug 255368] Re: ebox: Depends: libapache-authcookie-perl but it is not installable

2008-11-16 Thread Anton Roeder
So, how can the proposed FF exception be accomplished?

I agree that taking eBox out completely would be a pity, since it is
quite prominently advertised in the Server Guide. Integrating the new
version as soon as possible seems to be the way to go then. Would give
the chance to update the somewhat buggy documentation in Server Guide
too.

I am afraid the problem is that in this case nobody really feels

of the cifs Kernel module (Linux general) or a Samba bug? Who has got to

As long as nobody feels responsible there is not much hope indeed.

[Bug 210741] Re: no way to read and write files on mounted samba share on hardy

2008-11-16 Thread Oleg
It appears that this problem affects me as well.
I have Intrepid Ibex 2.6.27-7-generic kernel. Since upgrade to Intrepid, I
cannot access samba folders.
My samba server is 2.0 (shipped with OpenWrt). I am mounting with simple fstab
line:
//asus-router/torrents  /mnt/torrents   smbfs
user,username=user,password=** 0 0
Like the initial reporter, I can mount and browse share fine, but cannot
read/write files (all other rights are OK). Same share works fine with Windows
and Mac OS X.
When I try to read something from share, samba server has this in log:

[2008/11/16 20:46:42, 0] smbd/nttrans.c:map_share_mode(443)
map_share_mode: Incorrect value 8000 for desired_access to file
\Starikam.tut.ne.mesto.2007.DivX.DVDRip_BestVideo.avi

More information on possible issue here: https://dev.openwrt.org/ticket/2865
Looks like CIFS client bug.

[Bug 211631] Re: CIFS/SMBFS shares not unmounted before network is shut down

2008-11-16 Thread flaccid
@Max-Ulrich Farber

I disagree and I don't think you can speak for others like that.
Considering the Linux kernel and Samba itself are shared between
hundreds of Linux distributions and that Samba is basically the same (in
this context) on other operating systems such as FreeBSD etc., it is
clear that its the responsibility of the distribution especially
considering scripts existed already and were simply executed at the
wrong stage of the shutdown sequence.

'Who' wants to take responsibility is kind of irrelevant here
considering fixes are available and we are only asking for 1 of these to
be committed as opposed to 'someone take the blame will you'.

I updated my system last week with synaptic, i was then told a reboot was
required but i did not do that until today. After the reboot my pc would hang

booted with quiet taken out of the boot line and saw that the samba daemon was

recovery mode and typed 'apt-get remove winbind' which also took wine with it.
The next boot i got to my desktop and my course work. After backing up my
coursework i tryed to install wine with 'sudo apt-get install wine'. This
worked, in that wine works but the winbind daemon will not start during the
installation.
This is what happens now when i type 'sudo apt-get upgrade':

[Bug 297675] Re: catalina.policy and bootstrap.jar should be copied on soft linked

2008-11-16 Thread Azamat S. Kalimoulline
Eclipse uses installed tomcat, but create in fact it's own user instance, e.g.
it creates separate server.xml, catalina.policy, catalina.properties,
context.xml, tomcat-users.xml and web.xml configuration files. So, when
configure installed runtime, it can be pointed to system installation (unpacked
zip). There are also can be system configuration, but in Eclipse it might be
redefined, so it can use another port, another polices and so on.
One condition it requires a valid tomcat installation. When creating server
runtime in eclipse, it requires bootstrap.jar in bin. When deploying
application it requires catalina.policy file which used as initial
catalina.policy for user installation.
Now I do as you adviced: create my tomcat user instance, link bootstrap.jar and
copy catalina.policy. It works. But I want to do less work and to work my user
instance out of the box in Eclipse.

[Bug 298613] [NEW] Network-manager is not able to set network eth0

2008-11-16 Thread klop
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi,

I use kubuntu 8.10. My network-manager has version
0.7~~svn20081018t105859-0ubuntu1 and network-manager-kde has version
1:0.7svn864988-0ubuntu1.

Two days ago my network-manager worked fine without any problems but
yesterday during my work on laptop network-manager stopped working. And
it is not able to set my network eth0. Network-manager-kde shows that
network is disconnected. If I try to set eth0 in kde-network-manager
again It makes nothing. I have to set network manually and it works. But
after reboot network-manager again delete my network eth0 settings. I
don't understand why network-manager stopped working.

After reboot network eth0 is again down and if I write ifconfig to see
where is problem I get this:

eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWadr 00:18:8b:d9:e3:0f

Maybe it helps you to find where is problem.

[Bug 272247] Re: System freezes during boot, unless I hold a key down

2008-11-16 Thread dino99
i've upgraded to Intrepid from Hardy and got this bug too.
What i can say:
- i don't need any specific parameter to boot, i'm just waiting about 20 seconds
- when i start my desktop, all is ok and the led on the ethernet port is on
(green light), then boot process start and AT THIS TIME the led turn off (so,
no more net).
- booting in verbose mode (without quiet and splash), i see that boot process
hang when it try to identify eth0, but can't because ethernet port is off, ...
waiting about 20 seconds, then the led move to 'orange light' and the boot
process goes on.

It seems that something is wrong with the modules load order.
i've filled a bug about some of them:

[Bug 285604] Re: P4M90-M4 motherboard not well supported

2008-11-16 Thread ricardisimo
Hey there everyone. The part about which I am uncertain is the after a
failed autodetection. As I mentioned, I altered my xorg.conf file
shortly after installing Hardy, and Intrepid was an upgrade via Update
Manager, so I believe it remained as I left it. The graphics work now,
that's all I can say, so I imagine that it is autodetecting properly
now. [Sound is still a bit sketchy, but I don't know if that is the
motherboard or recent bugs involving ALSA.]

In any event, the file you requested does exist, and I am attaching it
here, but I don't know if it will help you at all. Once again, let me
know if I can some how simulate the problem with LiveCD.

I can't install it as user since the group can't read and no user with
this id exists, and I can't install it as root since wine needs to run
as user. I can't use iso9660, since there are files over 2GB.

The only thing that would work is to change thw owner or the
permissions. Both I can't do.

[Bug 204960] Re: [Hardy] Lirc devinput (linux-input-layer) broken

2008-11-16 Thread Per Heldal
The fix in 0.8.4a-0ubuntu1 is not complete. Exceptions are made for HAL
to ignore a list of known receivers, but there are surely more to come.
A permanent fix can only be made upstream by making HAL able to identify
dev/input IR-receivers in general, or integrate lircd to take events
from dev/input via HAL/DBUS.

[Bug 298617] [NEW] Popularity Contest should be uninstallable

2008-11-16 Thread jan
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: popularity-contest

Popularity Contest is (at least in hardy) enabled by default.
It now has a dependency with ubuntu-standard, and no menu item in services.
This means that switching it off cannot be done via the GNOME UI.
There are several reasons why a user or administrator would like to switch it
off.

I see no reason for the dependency with ubuntu-standard, except in order to
FORCE users to enable it when using Ubuntu.
Making it recommended for ubuntu-standard, instead of a hard dependency would
enable me to uninstall it using synaptic package manager.

[Bug 238487] Re: AntStructure task gives NoClassDefFoundError

2008-11-16 Thread Rodney Lorrimar
Why is it that it's not necessary to put e.g. the JUnit jar in -lib, but
it is necessary to put commons-net? They are both optional dependencies.

The dtd task loads all of ant's tasks and the only one which fails is
ftp, which needs commons-net in the classpath.

Seems like a packaging problem to me. Perhaps there needs to be a
symlink in /usr/share/ant/lib.

[Bug 298619] [NEW] please ship amd64 kernel for i386 architecture

2008-11-16 Thread Ryan Lortie
Public bug reported:

I just installed Intrepid on my Core 2 Quad system.

Core 2 has AMD64 support (or EM64T as Intel calls it).

As a developer of software, I'm interested in being able to build my
programs in 64bit to check for portability. For this reason, I tried
out the 64bit Intrepid. There were a lot of issues and headaches with
that, so I decided to go back to 32bit.

I still wanted to be able to build and run 64bit binaries though, so I
had the idea of installing the appropriate libc/gcc packages for amd64
(which exist) and then installing the appropriate kernel image (which
does not exist).

I was able to download linux-
image-2.6.27-8-generic_2.6.27-8.17_amd64.deb from the mirror and install
it using dpkg --force-architecture. I booted, and everything is
copacetic. Even the initramfs was generated properly (with what I
assume is a mix of 32bit userspace utilities and 64bit kernel modules).
I don't have any hardware that requires restricted modules, so I didn't
need to worry about that — if I did, perhaps things wouldn't be so happy
right now.

I've heard that there are some specific issues with running a system
like this (for example, that the usbfs interface doesn't have the
correct 64/32bit thunks in place) but I've yet to encounter a single
issue. Certainly it's working well enough to be useful.

It's worth it to provide an official package for this, I think.

This deb do not contain ndiswrapper executable file. :(

2008/11/16 sketec [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I was completely fed up with this issue as well, but I found out that
nspluginwrapper is at a newer version 1.1.4 which I found here

 http://freshmeat.net/projects/nspluginwrapper/?branch_id=75051release_id=288070
 .
I installed it from source on my system and the problems went away, so
far at least. Here I built a .deb for you all to use. I didn't know how
to put in a description. I'm sure there is a way to add it, but I spent
hours researching and finding all the dependencies I need to
compile/make nspluginwrapper and I was just too tired to figure that
out. Just uninstall the version currently installed and flashplugin-
nonfree. Then install the nspluginwrapper I provided and then reinstall
flashplugin-nonfree. Restart Firefox and it should be fixed now.

I still can't connect to my WPA network at all, or when I am connected it only

It works OK on enterprise WPA-EAP networks.

Yes, it's needed if we want to backport it to hardy and intrepid.

[Bug 186451] Re: No menu icon

2008-11-16 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I am not sure if it is the same problem, but on Ubuntu 8.10 the KDE4
rkward package (version 0.5.0b-2) menu entry does not have an icon on
the KDE 4 desktop.

The problem seems to be this: the appropriate icons are misplaced either
by design (it would be an upstream problem then) or during compiliation
on Ubuntu.

The appropriate icons are installed to:
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/l10n/hicolor/rkward.png
(the same for other icon sizes: 64x64 and others)
while they should go to
/usr/share/icons/hicolor/128x128/apps/rkward.png
If you move the icons to the right place, they appear in the menu.

Also the there are two other icons missing in the UI:
One for „dataset“
and one for „script file“

I guess the problem with those icons is, that they are generic KDE icons
and not those installed with rkward (in KDE3 they look like source.png
and spreadsheet.png, though I may be wrong too), and when installed on
KDE4 they are not found somehow.

[Bug 298632] [NEW] marking/highligting files in Gnome-Comander 1.2.6 is seriously broken!

2008-11-16 Thread Kaibuntu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-commander

I am using latest Gnome-Commander 1.2.6 in latest Ubuntu 8.10.

This has a set of very serious usability bugs:

a)
the files that you see on the screen as marked/highligted are not necessarily
the ones that are internaly marked and then processed by gnome commander.

Here is a sample scenario:

I downloaded archive files from the internet. In Gnome Commander, I
click on one of these archive files with the right mouse button and from
the context menu, I choose to extract the files (only one file is in the
archive) inside. The file will be extracted (good) and now I want to
delete the archive, as it is no more needed.

The archive is still highlighted, so I just click F8, to delete the
curent highlighted file. However, not the highlighted file is being
deleted, but the *extracted* file. I can correct this, when I move the
cursor to the next file and then back to the previous file between the
extracting and the deletion by pressing f8.

Also in otehr cases it seems that gnome commander internaly thinks that
other files are marked than those that are visualy marked on screen.

b)
When you press insert repeatedly, you would expect that file by file the files
are marked, one by every key press, without gap. However, instead, the file
marking will happen with serious (unwanted) gaps between the files.

Also in other cases, it is not always sure that files are marked that
one wants to mark.

c)
The combination of a+b makes it very dangerous to delete files with gnome
commander. GC is the only program that gives me pain with Ubuntu (I dont want
to install KDE, because I don't like KDE4) and I have to suffer a lot with it
because of these errors in the last few days, but the event which finaly drove
me to write this bug report is that a combination of a+b just resulted in that
I lost a precious collection of some GB of files.

Error a+b would have a milder effect, if Gnome Commander would delete to the
recycle bin, however, they delete without any chance to recover the files. So,
on top and independent of a+b, I sugest that you also offer an option to delete
to the
recycle bin and switch this option on by default.

Thank you
Kaibuntu

[Bug 294610] Re: [intrepid]rkward 0.5.0b-2 in Intrepid Ibex starts but doesn't work. No icons no starting page

2008-11-16 Thread Donatas Glodenis
I had the same problem, and it just disappeared yesterday, perhaps after
the latest kde updates and reinstall of rkward... do not know why. But
here is my try to explain:

If you compile rkward from source using the command sequence
cmake .
make
make install

Rkward gets installed in /usr/local/ and all the menu items and start page are
visible.
However, if I try to install it to /usr by following the install instructions
and build it with
cmake . -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=$KDEDIR
I get it installed in / instead, however weird it might sound. And I get the
problems described here: missing menu items and no start page

so I did
echo $KDEDIR
and got an empty string

then I rebuild rkward with
cmake . -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr
and everything was fine again.

So I can simulate the problem, but it does not help me to explain, why
did the problem suddenly go away.

[Bug 287259] Re: [Intrepid] VMware Server Console failed to start

2008-11-16 Thread Hervé Fache
Looks like VMWare are shipping their own libs for many things, including
Glib/GTK, but fail to include libgio. This fails because their
libglib/libgthread and our libgio are not from the same package AFAICT.

[Bug 298628] [NEW] [8.10 regression] nautilus and sshfs : volumes are detected as 0 bytes-free

2008-11-16 Thread ®om
Public bug reported:

If I mount a directory with sshfs, I can't copy any file in it because no free
space.
sshfs rom-desktop:/ /net/mymount

It works correctly if instead of using sshfs, I use directly sftp:// in
nautilus : free space is unknown instead of 0 byte, so I can copy
new files.

This is not a duplicate of bug 291863 because it works with sftp://, but
not with sshfs.

It worked correctly in ubuntu 8.04 hardy heron.

[Bug 298635] [NEW] Intrepid Freecell card pack sucks

2008-11-16 Thread mancroft
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

I just upgraded to Intrepid 8.10. The new design of the Freecell card
pack sucks. Can we have the old card design back or have a choice of
card designs?

Thank you.

[Bug 298633] [NEW] All my bookmarks have been deleted, it can't open links from other applications

2008-11-16 Thread Martin Božič
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1.
Version of Firefox package: 3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1

I can't really say why it happened but all my bookmarks have been
deleted without my intervention. Also, the behaviour of a default
browser is broken. I click a link in Liferea for example, but it doesn't
get open in Firefox. I can't add new bookmarks (there is no star and
the old way or keyboard shortcuts don't work either), the history
doesn't show up.

[Bug 298619] Re: please ship amd64 kernel for i386 architecture

2008-11-16 Thread Ryan Lortie
Two things worth noting (for sake of documentation):

1) Currently amd64 is at -8 but i386 is at -7. This means that (by
luck) there is no problem putting the amd64 kernel on my i386 system.
Of course, this is probably not usually the case.

2) One problem with this: autoconf looks at uname -m and guesses that my
build (and therefore host) system is x86_64. This results in the wrong
thing happening in a lot of cases, unless I override it with
--build=i686-unknown-linux-gnu. I suspect this to be an autoconf issue.
