2008-12-27 Thread Yann Hamon
Ah, and it seems to affect python processes, too.

[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server

2008-12-27 Thread perspectoff
Blueprint changed by perspectoff:

Whiteboard changed to:

2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks spec?
é
21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and then
create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want

13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of
these solutions and have some professional experience in it.

2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project
ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork
called bongo project. However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's
LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution
for SmallBusinessServer.

2008-06-08 (Guy Van Sanden) Citadel seems a very good choice. IT offers many
features (including a Jabber server) and is completely GPL'ed.
The only caveat is that it does not have LDAP support (yet)

2008-06-19 (Art Cancro) -- yes, definitely go with Citadel. Ubuntu
packages are already being maintained, and the project would be
delighted to cooperate with the Ubuntu team on integration issues.

2008-06-19 (Todd Hanna) I would also like to give a big +1 to Citadel.
They already have the .debs and there is even a connector to use it as
an Exchange replacement if you have clients using Outlook. I have run
it without issue on Ubuntu server since version 6.06. It's head and
shoulders above the rest at the moment.. and it is easy to setup,
update, and maintain.

2008-07-08 (Stuart Cianos) - I'll also give major points to Citadel, and
have been a longtime user of it. It is the only open-source groupware
package that is self maintaining and straightforward to configure.

2008-07-09 (Stephan Buys) - Please also dont forget Kolab (Citadel
implements the Kolab v1 format). Kolab has 3 plugins for Outlook,
support Horde Webmail, Thunderbird/Lightning and Kontact.

2008-07-09 (Guy Van Sanden) RE Kolab - Kolab is not a full groupware
AFAIK, it does not have a web interface. Correct me if I'm wrong.

2008-07-09 (Christian Merlin) Remember also SOGo
(http://sogo.opengroupware.org/) it use LDAP for users and PostgreSQL
for database. So It could be easy to integrate with Ebox (http://ebox-
platform.com/). So Ubuntu can became an'easy and powerfull groupware
server like the commercial one.

2008-07-10 (Stephan Buys) Kolab does have a web interface (for admin and
email) through Horde (www.horde.org). Calendars, Contacts and Tasks can
be shared between Outlook/Kontact/Horde/Thunderbird

2008-07-10 - Personally I prefer bongo, however it is still in its
infancy. It has a great UI, and is targeted at being simple to install
and use

2008-11-14 - (Guy Van Sanden) Zarafa is becoming an option too. It was
AGPL'd recently and offers many features including CalDAV in the
upcoming 6.30 release.

2008-11-14 - (Stuart Cianos) Only the server-side components of Zarafa
were opened up... There are still numerous proprietary functions that
are unavailable in the AGPL version. There are plenty of completely open
solutions out there (Horde, Citadel, Kolab, etc.) Personally, I use
Citadel (with Funambol for push e-mail) due to its funtionality,
reliability, speed and flexibility... They also have a fantastic
developer/user community that is supportive and communicative.

2008-11-15 - (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart Cianos Actually most of it seems to be
in the AGPL version except for the client license required for Outlook usage.
Which is logical, if you are paying for closed source outlook you should also
pay for the connector...
I know about citadel, have been running it for 2 years but it does have some
issues and lacks certain features like LDAP integration.

2008-11-16 (Stuart Cianos) @Guy Van Sanden: Citadel will allow you to
authenticate against any service which support the underlying
authentication of the operating system (in this case, PAM). I have used
this to authenticate users against PAM using modules such as pam_ldap;
additionally, it can automatically populate an LDAP directory with
information from its global address book for use with external clients.

2008-11-29 (Giorgio Zarrelli) I do not see eGroupware, what about it?

2008-12-01 (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart: I tried PAM based authentication on
Ubuntu, but it only works with pam_unix and not pam_krb5 or pam_ldap for me.
Though I really like Citadel in many ways, it has too many limitations to use
it as a full-blown groupware server like Zimbra or Zarafa. Zimbra is nice, but
it really needs a dedicated server to run properly.
@Giorgio: eGroupWare is not a groupware server but rather a Web frontend to
other servers.

2008-12-01 (Giorgio Zarrelli) @Guy. I agree on Zimbra. It's too
expensive, not all people can afford a dedicated server just for a
groupware. Zarafa looks nice, but never tried it

available which would make them great marketing tools for ubuntu.

[Bug 311864] [NEW] reports wrong version?

2008-12-27 Thread ArtM
Public bug reported:

The reported version number of samba in Intrepid is 2:3.2.3-1ubuntu3.3.
This causes sadms to fail when trying to join the machine to a windows
domain, as it thinks samba is reporting version 2. This was not a
problem in Gutsy when I joined my machine to my windows domain. After
reinstalling Ubuntu, sadms breaks.

Re: [Bug 107821] Re: no sound with lenovo 3000 n100 0768FEG

2008-12-27 Thread pest789
On that property page, I only have a headphones checkbox.

On Fri, Dec 26, 2008 at 4:43 PM, Chris no...@leinso.com wrote:

I was enable to get the sound output working :)
Please note I use the german locales, so the english translation may be not
 100%.

Right click the volume tool (Lautstärkeregler) on the panel
and select open volume (Lautstärkeregler öffnen).
A dialog opens and shows 2 property sheets. On the second one
titled switches (Schalter) there are two check boxes for the
output devices. On my laptop there where both unchecked.
I enabled headphones and speakers and voila sound was working.

My audio settings are on auto detection. Mixer is HDA intel (Alsa
 mixer).

All apps now play sound. Just a minor problem in internet flash movies (eg.
 youtube).
This problem I fixed by updating the flash browser plugin vom v9 to v10.

This looks similar to bug #39517, but as I am running feisty with 2.6.20,

2008-12-27 Thread Adam Dorsey
Clemente,
I just applied the patch and it worked. Did you get any errors or anything
that would help narrow the issue down?

Also, there is a parameter in the usbhid.ko module called
'rdesc_quirks'. If I can figure out the proper syntax, I might be able
to 'turn off' that quirk without a kernel patch. Does anyone have any
more info on this parameter that might help?

[Bug 311691] [NEW] SCIM only available for administrators

2008-12-27 Thread Cae
Public bug reported:

On a desktop where only one users is assigned with administrator rights and
others as normal desktop users :

- administrator setups scim and confirmed that switching to and input in other
language (e.g. chinese, japanes) is enabled
- however, when other users login their account, switching to and input in
other language is not possible.

- Normal users can only input in other language by changing them temporary to
administrators and setup scim.
- Then change their profile back to normal user to enable them using scim
successfully.

Usage of SCIM should be available to all users when the administrator
has setup the system to enable input in other language.

[Bug 269904] Re: Screen refresh problems with nvidia on intrepid

2008-12-27 Thread Rocko
It might be worth trying the very latest driver, 180.18. I had
occasional problems with the 173 and 177 series of drivers, then 180.08
was pretty good but not perfect, then 180.11 and 180.16 were
progressively worse than 180.08 for refresh corruption. But since I
installed 180.18 on the 23rd Dec, I've had no refresh problems at all. I
installed using the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-180.18-pkg2.run file that I got
from nvidia's ftp site, ie at ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/

[Bug 279569] Re: Screennresolution applet no longer asks for confirmation of new resolution settings

2008-12-27 Thread Eric Forgeot
it's a very stupid default behavior. I've experienced this on archlinux too, so
it's probably a gnome upstream modification.
My screen doesn't support some default resolution in 800x600, so switching to
it will make the screen black, without confirmation.

[Bug 311693] [NEW] Shutdown behavior different when using power button

2008-12-27 Thread tratz
Public bug reported:

By default pressing the power button on my laptop brings up a menu
allowing me to choose between shutdown, logout, suspend, etc. In the
power management preferences this can be altered so that my computer
shuts down immediately after pressing the power button.

Problem is the shutdown behavior is different between the two methods.
For example, when shutdown is selected from the menu, openoffice will
ask to save any unsaved docs(and abort the shut down if the cancel
button is pressed) and the shutdown has more splash screen. Whereas if
ubuntu is set to shut down immediately when the power button is pressed,
gnome quits with no questions asked and lines of text are visible during
shutdown.

I want to get the nicer shutdown behavior to happen immediately when I
press my power button.

I notice this in my Ubuntu-eee(8.04) (And I think I remember this also
from my vanilla Hardy before).

At http://markmail.org/message/2xxgwhvjpy3xomyw a method is described where the

(ex. 'modprobe usbhid rdesc_quirks=0x045e:0x00f9:0x0 quirks=0x045e:0x00f9:0x0')

Can anyone try this? (I would myself, but my dumb ass forgot to back up the

[Bug 270617] Re: Display corruption after short period

2008-12-27 Thread sklp
In my last post i described getting the bug in hardy. That occured with the
latest stable driver (from hardy repos).
I've since then installed the beta driver(180.11) in hardy, and It's been
stable for many days. I can't be certain it's 100% stable, but it certainly
seems so at the moment.
However, it may not be stable in intrepid or jaunty (you seem to have problems
with 180.11 and intrepid), but I'll probably try jaunty in a while, as intrepid
seems to be unstable with every driver version I've tried so far.

[Bug 311352] Re: Thinkpad with Seagate 7200.3 crashes after head parking due to movement

2008-12-27 Thread Karl Martin
I just found the following document specifying how the hard disk should react
to a freefall event:
http://www.t13.org/Documents/UploadedDocuments/docs2006/e06144r2-Freefall_Control_Feature_Set_CB.pdf

It states that the drive should try to complete the command after the
freefall event but send an error message if it is not able to complete
the command before its timeout. As the described problem usually occurs
after several freefall events it is quite likely that the kernel does
not properly react to this reported error message. However, I do not
know how an UNC (uncorrectable error) reported by the disk would look
like in the libata error messages. Maybe someone with more knowledge in
this area could follow this up?

Furthermore, it is very unlikely that the reported problem is due to a
hardware failure as I could not provoke it in Microsoft Vista.

The above mentioned document also gives the codes that have to be send
to the disk to turn the freefall protection off. This would at least
provide a temporal workaround. Does anybody know how I can send a SET
FEATURE command with Feature Code C1h to the drive?

Many thanks and best wishes!

Karl Martin

[Bug 307879] Re: Gnumeric problem in paste special - paste link across workbooks

2008-12-27 Thread Lucio
The open menu item opens an existing workbook; what I have done is
creating the two new workbooks from the scratch.

Of course I suppose that the naming is the same as in Excel:
Workbook is a new instance containing one or more worksheet; worksheet is
contained inside workbooks.

Paste speciali link works between worksheets of the same workbook, but
my bug report is BETWEEN different workbooks.

Thank you everyone!

[Bug 296750] Re: special device /dev/dm-0 does not exist when mounting an encrypted drive

2008-12-27 Thread Simon
I can confirm this on a freshly installed intrepid ibex.
To reproduce: Plug in a fully encrypted disk, the password dialogue pops up.
Enter password, the device mapper gets created, gnome mount rejects to mount
the drive. Quote:
Cannot mount volume.

Unable to mount the volume '[label]'.

mount: special device /dev/dm-4 does not exist

and

DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply.
Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout
expired, or the network connection was broken.

If mounted manually the message reads:

~$ gnome-mount -vbd /dev/mapper/luks_crypto_[...]
gnome-mount 0.8

** Message: Given device '/dev/mapper/luks_crypto_[...]' is not a volume
or a drive.

Might the way in which the luks volume is created on the disk affect the way it
is regarded by gnome mount? E.g. encrypting /dev/sdb1 instead of /dev/sdb?

Please let me know if I can help by supplying additional data.

[Bug 124326] Re: Shrinking to applet/notification area should have its own title bar button

2008-12-27 Thread aeosynth
I really don't think this makes any sense for most apps.

I don't think 'Always on Top' makes sense for most apps, but I love the
fact that when I need it, it's there. I don't see anything wrong with
providing a new, unobtrusive feature for people to play with.

I guess we are thinking about different things, because I would like all
windows to have 'minimize to tray' functionality, instead of simply
providing more control over the windows/programs which already have
this. I apologize for wasting your time, and will fill my own bug
report.

Cheers.

Subject: [Bug 246667] Re: Failed connect to msn (nss handshake failed -8128)

Hi, thanks for the report. It sounds like you fixed this issue already,
 right?

Yes, the recompile solved the problem. Probably had to do with
having both libraries available *and* having both enabled at
compile time.

In the meantime I've changed computer (clean OS install)
and the problem has not reoccurred- so my guess is that the
problem was simply caused by a very specific upgrade scenario.

[Bug 270346] Re: Messages are sent with wrong identity when using multiple identities

2008-12-27 Thread John Vivirito
If you set the identities correctly than restart thunderbird you
shouldn't see this issue. In the preferences you should see Manage
Identities and add them for each one. than when you go to send them you
should have a drop down at the from line and choose the address you wan
to use.

This is a test you should set up as above. This seems to be more of a
profile area so if the above instructions doesn't work please use mv
~/.mozilla-thunderbird ~/.mozilla-thunderbird-backup

so you can always go back if the new profiler doesnt work if it doesn't use
mv ~/.mozilla-thunderbird ~/.mozilla-thunderbird

Please restart tbird after each step

[Bug 299655] Re: [i965] Applications with a high number of frames or view movies in full screen mode causes jerking

2008-12-27 Thread Bastian Becker
Now I testing Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 and I have the same performance
issues. It *could* be the same problem as described in this bug:

Moreover I have quite some graphical issues f.e. if I maximise a window

present, so it could be caused by the performance bug.

I work from xd card in printer slot (for photo test) - works fine. so it
must be a f-spot problem IMO. Good luck.

[Bug 311710] [NEW] The Gimp windows do not fit with my screen, the bottom is always outside

2008-12-27 Thread Aurélien Paulus
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

In fact, this is a minor bug I think, not really preventing from using
the Gimp. At first launch of the Gimp program, firstly the windows are
always too big for the screen (1280*800) and secondly the top is
starting at the middle of the screen. That's easy to correct (I move the
windows, then I rezise them) but it's very annoying and it's a bug I
encounter since some versions of Ubuntu. The starting of Gimp should fit
the windows to the screen of the users.

That's it. Hope it'll help to improve another point of Ubuntu :-P

[Bug 231541] Re: totem does nut fully uninstall, leaves symlinks and totem-gstreamer

remove it.

[Bug 298632] Re: marking/highligting files in Gnome-Comander 1.2.6 is seriously broken!

2008-12-27 Thread Paul Fisher
Having just deleted about 100 hours of work because of problem a) in the
previous poster's comment, I have to agree, the current version of Gnome
commander is VERY dangerous. I would go as far as suggesting that the
current version (1.2.5) be removed from the Ubuntu repositories. I have
tested 1.2.7 and the unpredictable file operations problem appears
resolved. However, delete still DELETES rather than moving the file to
trash, so be very careful, recovering files from ext3 is very difficult,
time consuming and often produces disappointing results.

[Bug 280780] Re: Totem hangs when asked to play DVD

2008-12-27 Thread Milan
It could be nice to check if this is still present in Intrepid. DVD
playback is quite problematic, I don't really hope anybody will fix that
if it's only in Hardy (sorry...).

[Bug 311709] [NEW] ata device errno=16 5 no DVD Device present

2008-12-27 Thread tarasin
Public bug reported:

This now appears to be a random problem as I have used the drive to burn iso's
and play movies. I have found that if I reboot, the problem goes away for a
time. 8 months ago I tried Hardy and got this problem continuously along with
problems shutting down the pc.
I have given you an attachment with the files requested along with the system
log.
e.g. Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
ata2: device not ready (errno=-16), forcing hardreset
   ata2.01: revalidation failed (errno=-5)

I have noticed similar problems using other newer major distros, say no
more than 8 months old.

[Bug 308385] Re: vlc 0.9.4 slower than 0.8.6 - video freezes then resumes pixelated for a few seconds

2008-12-27 Thread rjmoerland
On a fresh install of Xubuntu 8.10, VLC's video output (DVD, avi)
freezes as well, while the audio continues uninterrupted. Sometimes it
catches on again (instantly), but usually there's no recovery but to
restart VLC. I am not using Compiz, and have the free nVidia drivers
installed. Other players (MPlayer, Totem) do not show this behavior.
VLC version 0.9.4-1ubuntu3.

Yes, I'm still having same problem, and 'rmmod snd_hda_intel' doesn't work too.
So it seems, that there is some another problem here... :(

My laptop is a Packard Bell Easy Note R1926 with a Celeron processor, if

hda-intel to the given path without any success, and when i try the
rmmod snd_hda_intel in the terminal it gives me an error saying the

If there is anyone that have the patience to help me out with this it
 would be much appreciated.

[Bug 41335] Re: DVD playing is not working correctly with totem-gstreamer

2008-12-27 Thread Milan
I'm closing this bug report because it's sheerly a mix of different
issues (there are many), and will not lead to any fix by developers.
Please continue to report bugs about DVD playback, but separately. We
need precise informations and feedback to track bugs. And there are
already several reports that should cover the bugs you're experiencing:
see bug 260765, bug 41335, bug 219062, bug 137527, or others...

And great work is going on about thaThanks!

[Bug 209483] Re: 2.6.24 reports invalid storage size in /sys [Sony Walkman NWZ-S618F doesn't mount in Hardy]

2008-12-27 Thread Bob Harvey
For further information I have had the same problem mounting a sony
walkman NWZA818, and also the same problem mounting it in SUse Linux
11.0 (kernel 2.6.25.18-0.2-pae) but it works fine in 11.1 (kernel
2.6.27.7-9-pae)

My Ubuntu machine is now running 8.10 (kernel 2.6.27-8-generic) and the
sony mounts fine.

I am fascinated by the idea that the kernel team doesn't need to know
about kernel bugs, BTW.

[Bug 273021] Re: Intrepid: KM2530DL Printing Errors

2008-12-27 Thread Alan Lord
Is there a user setting in your ~/.cups/lpoptions that overrides the
paper size?

Nope:

Default KM2530DL PageSize=A4

I have managed to get more consistent printing on my device but I had to
break the package manager to do it :-(

Following the suggestion in this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=346929 has allowed me to print
quite well (I do get extra page feeds sometimes but nothing else seems
busted printing-wise) but every time I do an update the update manager
barfs about the KM2530DL package at the end of the update process.
Although the updates themselves are applied OK and it all seems to work.

[Bug 283316] Re: CD-ROM tray closes automatically after eject

2008-12-27 Thread wpshooter
Sawas:

Thanks for your reply.

BUT, I still had the problem AFTER applying EVERY update that was
available from the Intrepid-updates that are found under software
sources.

When I applied the 2 lines shown in the post above the problem was fixed
immediately.

Let me also say that I did not have to apply those 2 lines under my old
setup when I had a Plextor CD-RW drive in my machine. BUT when I
changed the CD-RW drive to a Sony Drive, and after doing a fresh install
of Intrepid, I had this problem EVEN AFTER applying all of the updates.
I did NOT have this problem when I applied ALL of the updates when I was
using the Plextor drive. There appears to me, to still be some little
quirky thing here that someone has missed.

Thanks.
