[Bug 299808] Re: No Atheros Wireless with Kernel 2.6.24-21-generic in 8.04 (hardy)
Thanks for your reply. After many updates, kernel 2.6.24-24-generic [currently at 2.6.24-24.56 from the Hardy - Proposed repository] became workable for me. It resumes from suspend/hibernate most of the time, Atheros wireless works except sometimes after resume from suspend/hibernateand ALSA sound works as well. But closed-source ATI driver does not work -- when I try to enable it and reboot, it still is not enabled. Would installing linux-backports-modules-hardy help with other things besides wireless (e.g. closed-source ATI driver, more reliable resume from suspend/hibernate)? [Bug 402073] [NEW] [needs-packaging] launchpad
Public bug reported: Launchpad has long provided the Ubuntu operating system with an edge up on the competition, giving Ubuntu developers a unified platform for tracking code changes and bug reports in upstream software projects, and giving them convenient ways to package those upstreams for inclusion in Ubuntu. Now Launchpad itself is part of that same ecosystem. But this is more than just a release of code. Launchpad’s strength is in cross- developer and cross-project communication, including communication even with projects hosted elsewhere (see the code imports and multi-project bugs features). On top of that, Launchpad has rich APIs — you don’t have to talk to Launchpad only through its web user interface, you can write programs to talk to it too. The combination of these two things means that opening up Launchpad gives the free software world the beginnings of an open, programmatic interface to its own infrastructure. I’m very curious to see what a software-savvy user community can do with that. [Bug 402077] [NEW] Preseed ignores existing OS
Public bug reported: I have a problem with preseeding Ubuntu 9.04 (based on a an alternate disk and a custom preseed file). I want to use the free part of the disk for my ubuntu installation as there's already windows installed and i want to use dualboot. My preseed looks like this: d-i partman-auto/init_automatically_partition select biggest_free d-i partman-auto/method string regular d-i partman-auto/choose_recipe select home d-i partman/confirm_write_new_label boolean true d-i partman/choose_partition select finish d-i partman/confirm boolean true d-i grub-installer/with_other_osboolean true But after the installation, the windows partition is gone and grub has been written to the MBR. It seems to me like partman doesn't pay attention to the existing partition (and afterwards grub can't recognize windows because the partition has been wiped). [Bug 325662] Re: Transparency problems with xfdesktop
@Charlie: I don't have compiz. Since then I've been using 8.04.3, then upgraded to 9.04 and the new XFCE 4.6, and the bug is still present. Windows are slightly transparent on move/resize. I have checked the config files, everything is set to opaque (values are 100), but still, it doesn't matter. I experience this since I first ever used XFCE on Ubuntu Feisty 7.04 (both X86 and X86-64) I wonder why you can not reproduce it. I don't think this is only happening to me because of a erroneous install or something, since I am seeing this on multiple computers, multiple installs, even the same computer with reinstalls, different versions, etc. For example, when I do an administrative task, when the screen blacks out (darkens) and asks for an admin password, even that password window is sligthly transparent... Hi Leann, I'm happy to say the bug as fixed for me by re-installing the generic/common nVidia stuff. I'm ashamed to have to admit that I completely forgot to close this bug report... Maybe this can help others? It's indeed in the logs, but one has to dig quite deep: from the logs to the specific installation scripts and from there on to the correct package to re-install. Could be added to some FAQ or Wiki or something? Anyway, I think this bug can be closed as solved.
