[Bug 419728] [NEW] Huge HighContrastInverse icons cluttering windows and menus

2009-08-26 Thread Darwish
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In ubuntu 9.04, the HighContrastInverse set of icons from gnome-themes-
extras are very huge; they completely clutter the windows icons, menus,
and the main panel.

What makes things more unfortunate is that not all the set of the
inverse icons are that huge, some of them are displayed properly. This
makes an environment of a mix of huge and *relatively* small set of
icons, which isn't approachable.

Please check the screenshots. This one is using ubuntu 9.04 defaults +
gnome-themes-extras using the High Contrast Inverse icon set. Please
note the huge volume and logout icons in the bottom panel, the huge
trash icon in the file menu, and the unreasonlbly huge icons in Nautilus
toolbar. This behavior is also existent in some of the dialog buttons
which uses one of the mis-rendered icons.

Thank you

[Bug 359868] Re: [Acer, inc. Aspire 4530] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]

2009-08-26 Thread Robert Irelan
I don't know how applicable this piece of advice is to this issue, because I am
using Fedora 11 with the 2.6.29.6-217.2.16.fc11.x86_64 kernel (i.e. on a 64-bit
install). In any case, I was trying to solve the occasional flickering that I
was noticing and came across this site:
http://www.ubuntusolutions.org/2009/02/screen-flickering-with-nvidia-on-ubuntu.html
Specifically, the advice that proved useful was to add the following lines to
/etc/modprobe.d/options (actually, any file in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory;
e.g. I used /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia):

options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords='PerfLevelSrc=0x'
options nvidia NVreg_Mobile=1

Apparently, the equivalents of these registry values from the Windows
driver are not enabled by default in Fedora (and I suppose not in
Ubuntu, either, because I have never been able to resume successfully
from suspend in Ubuntu or Fedora until now). Perhaps pci=nomsi is also
needed, although I haven't checked if that option is needed. For me,
when both the modprobe lines and the kernel option are active, I can
suspend and resume using the nvidia driver successfully, and access my
disks as well, which I couldn't do before, even with the pci=nomsi
kernel option. I'm just posting this here because it might help some of
the reporters of this bug. I will do more experiments later.

Don't we need it for a plethora of other protocols? If none of them

We just need to lower empathy's recommends to a suggests for that.

[Bug 355508] Re: [i945gm] Kubuntu: corrupt login screen and X freeze on startup when using desktop effects (UXA bug)

2009-08-26 Thread Bryce Harrington
"screen/cursor freeze every few seconds" - that symptom is a performance
lag which is different from the original bug report's "X freeze", in
which the system just locked up but the mouse cursor moved. This bug
was inappropriately reopened. Instead you would be better off filing a
new bug, as your issue seems distinct and unrelated to this one.

[Bug 355854] Re: Please upgrade to nexuiz 2.5.1

2009-08-26 Thread Gerfried Fuchs
Hi!

For all that are interested, here is a status update: fteqcc was taken
over by the Debian/Ubuntu Games Team and the required svn snapshot was
pulled and uploaded to the pool. The package is currently available
through Debian testing (squeeze) and unstable (sid) and also was already
synced into Ubuntu karmic (at least the source is there already, the
binaries still seem to be at version 3343-2).

What is left now is uploading both nexuiz and nexuiz-data. Given its
sheer size please be patient a little bit longer with us, we (read:
Bruno Kleinert does the hard work) hope to be able to do the update
within the next few days.

Thanks for sticking with us and (hopefully) not having lost hope that
it will happen. :)

 So long!
Rhonda

There are still infrequent crashes, about once every week, typically a
failure to suspend completely, suspend light blinks. But the automatic

I will be happy to send a report with the relevant dumps, if someone can
point me to doc on how to do it manually.

will not display, but after updating packages from the repositories, it
shows up.

[Bug 419403] Re: No youtube search option

2009-08-26 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can
become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try
this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not
need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want
to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one
until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:

[Bug 419715] [NEW] blurry characters, not with xpdf

2009-08-26 Thread Jc
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Good morning,

It is the first time I submit a bug report, or ever have the feeling
that I am "speaking to the Ubuntu community", so first of all, thank you
all for your work ! I have been using Ubuntu for quite some time now,
and have a lot of pleasure in doing so.

So the problem is that for some pdf's, the rendering of Evince is poor.
Characters appear blurry at all scales, and such a thing does not happen when
viewed with xpdf. Attached is a screenshot of the views given by evince and
xpdf of the following pdf :
http://www.projecteuclid.org/DPubS/Repository/1.0/Disseminate?handle=euclid.aoms/1177700291&view=body&content-type=pdf_1
(see the link "PDF file" at the bottom of the page).

I have a fresh install of Jaunty (9.04) on an HP Pavilion laptop. I have
already experienced this problem on an earlier version of Ubuntu, and on
a Dell Inspiron laptop. My current version of Evince is 2.26.1, with
poppler 0.10.5 (cairo).

Most documents work just fine, but this problem is not unique to the pdf
I mention here.

Looking for some earlier reference about this problem, I found this one :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/evince/+bug/20310

The guy emphasizes that Evince is slow. I also had the feeling that when
characters were blurry, Evince was notably slowier than usually, or as
compared to xpdf on the same document (non blurry, fast).

Ok, I think I gave you all the information I had ! Thanks again.
Jc

[Bug 371066] Re: xorg key events not registering causing missed keypresses and sticking key repeats

2009-08-26 Thread Jason Straight (LeeJunFan)
Tried with linux-image-2.6.31-020631rc7-generic_2.6.31-020631rc7_amd64
on my Karmic/64 partition which also has the problem as well as Jaunty.

Same problems as before, back on Jaunty now.

* Load doesn't matter
* Vanilla kernel doesn't help
* VESA driver still does it
* All keys
* External keyboard doesn't have problem connected via USB
* Newer Xorg in karmic/64 bit and Xorg in Jaunty/32 bit both tested - problem
exists in both

As stated in the original post it's also curious is that it does not do
it in console, only using X. Even if X is running and I'm logged in, and
I switch to VT it will not do it in the VT.

Forcing a high load with dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/null twice for both
cores makes no difference in X or console.

Attachment is all the logs and output you asked for.

[Bug 412598] Re: Xsplash only uses the default wallpaper during transition to desktop.

2009-08-26 Thread mac_v
Cody , from what i understood ,
Mat is designing the Boot experience to use a *Single Background* for boot , gdm
While the boot uses the overlay of the throbber , the gdm will use the overlay
of the user list.

So that background image is better to use than the default wallpaper for all
these three:
-xsplash
-/etc/gdm/Init/Default (before gdm greeter shows)
-/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default (after gdm greeter, going into user session)
Using the same background for all the transitions would be better. so that the
user just sees only 2 backgrounds
1 background during boot and then second after login.

When i started this bug , I was under the impression that it was supposed to
use the users wallpaper and my suggestion in the description[to use the user
defined wallpaper] was since i thought the setting wasnt yet done. [i'll edit
the description accordingly]

But I'll leave it to Mat to confirm this[I'v subscribed Mat]

[Bug 413051] Re: browser freezes while searching 20% of time

2009-08-26 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for reporting this to Ubuntu. Sometimes Firefox profiles can
become corrupt and/or extensions can conflict. Could you please try
this with a new profile and see if the problem still exists? You do not
need to delete your old profile to test. If this helps, you might want
to try to disable all your extensions and re-enable them one by one
until you find the problematic one.

You can start the profile manager with the following command:
firefox-3.5 -ProfileManager

Jonathan Thomas, this bug is not a duplicate of bug #250330 because it isn't
exists in Kubuntu 9.04, bu exists only in Kubuntu 9.10 alpha 4.
And this messages shows automatically without run the kdesudo and other actions
manually.
If I starts kdesudo manually, for example "kdesudo kate", it works.
I think this is not a kdesudo bug, but bug in kde-workspace or ubuntu kde
addons, because, I think, some program try to start other program but miss the
arguments for kdesudo...
And I can't find the way to detect which process shows try to run automatically
kdesudo and shows this message.
Please remove the duplicate of bug.

Re: [Bug 309280] Re: GIMP opens new documents behind other windows

2009-08-26 Thread QuietObserver
I just tested it in Jaunty and I'm still experiencing the same exact
behavior with new windows opening behind previously opened windows
when opened from the Open dialog; I never had a problem with opening
recent documents, just when using the open dialog or from Nautilus,
though the Nautilus issue appears to have been fixed (tested that
just now and the new window opened on top, as it should have).

Re: [Bug 419702] [NEW] Update to 0.16

2009-08-26 Thread Luke Yelavich
Now that we are passed feature freeze, a feature freeze exception will
be needed to allow this into Ubuntu. Since there are not many changes, I
think that it is better that we pull any important fixes from
libcanberra git and apply them to the current package.

Also note that the new upstrea version introduces a new API function and
symbol, which is probably not a good idea at this point in the
development cycle.

If you wish to write a feature freeze exception and conver this bug into
the request, feel free. You can find more information at

[Bug 419708] [NEW] rdesktop connections reset - win2003 server

2009-08-26 Thread Clayton Dillard
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rdesktop

I have no trouble connecting to RDP from my 9.04 box to Windows Server
2008 and Windows 2000 Server but connections to Windows 2003 servers
typically don't work. The symptoms are as follows:

Once in a while I get a very slow loading session where the login prompt
never finally gets rendered on the screen and then the client
disconnects with an error of "connection reset by peer".

When I do get connected, most of the time I see the desktop but after a
few clicks, especially when opening new windows or scrolling, the
connection pauses (I've seen this using eyeballs and tcpdump) and
finally I get the same "connection reset by peer" message.

I never have this issue when using a WIndows XP client to RDP into a
Windows Server. I never get this from my Ubuntu 9.04 client when
connecting to a Windows Server 2008 host. These results are consistent
no matter what subnet I'm on.

This has only happened after upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04. I've tried
tsclient, grdesktop and Gnome-RDP and all exhibit the same behavior.

[Bug 419709] [NEW] System does not complete boot process

2009-08-26 Thread Ralph Green
Public bug reported:

I am testing koala and most days I update by running the following 2 commands.
sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude safe-upgrade

My system is a Compaq iPaq with a 933 MHz P3 and 512 meg of ram and 80
gig of hard disk. I used the Alpha 4 alternate installer to install.
My swap partition is encrypted with a random password. My /boot
partition is ext2 and unencrypted. My / and /usr partitions are logical
volumes on an encrypted volume group.

After the update on Aug 26, the system hangs on boot. The last line on the
screen says:
modprobe: FATAL: Error inserting padlock_sha
(/lib/modules/2.6.31-7-generic/kernel/drivers/crypto/padlock-sha.ko): No such
device

The file /lib/modules/2.6.31-7-generic/kernel/drivers/crypto/padlock-
sha.ko exists and is the same size as the one from the 2.6.31-6 kernel
which still boots fine.

Re: [Bug 289258] Re: certain updates ( to kernel?) might make suspend to disk not work -- make unavailable or fix--resume didn't occur

2009-08-26 Thread Aaron Peterson
it appears that the update to kernel should occur only on a clean
start up specifically for the update of the kernel... then another
reboot to continue on.

A kernel update should give warning that the system needs to be
restarted, and NOT apply the patches that break suspend/hibernate to
disk until the user has indicated that the system can go down. If the
user says dont restart the computer, it is implied that the customer
might want the stuff written to disk.

I dont know if I can get the conditions to reproduce again and a
new kernel might work with an old ones info, and then again another
might not... This is when CHANGING between two kernels. I dont see
how a specific kernel could have a problem, or be expected to be
future compatible with every little thing that could ever possibly go
wrong.

I was basically hypothesising that the kernel was switched out from
under the hibernation image, or the format of the image changed
between kernels.

[Bug 13983] Re: Evolution virtual trash / "real" trash on IMAP server

2009-08-26 Thread Felipe Figueiredo
The upstream bug has a patch that has been considered to work. Can this
be targeted for Karmic?

If so, can I as a tester help in any way? I have little to none
packaging skills, but I'm willing to spend a few hours if it will mean
that this patch will make it into Karmic (assuming it's not already part
of the next upstream release).

Does the Ubuntu Evolution maintainer have info on the status of this
patch regarding Karmic, if it's already ?

[Bug 419681] Re: ctrl+c copying files unresponsive under certain conditions

2009-08-26 Thread feranick
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this
bug as a bug in nautilus.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 419707] [NEW] NetworkManager crash periodically with "segfault at 20 ip 0809c3af sp bffd1fc0 error 4 in NetworkManager[8048000+67000]"

2009-08-26 Thread erickcion
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hello!
I Have installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my PC and Laptop and have the same problem.
To connect to the internet I use as modem the "Motorola W3m" cellphone.
Ubuntu recognizes it and works fine with it.
But I have the occasional problem with the sustainability of the NetworkManager
I get a message that he is not running. I looked through the file
/var/log/messages and found the following message
er...@ubuntu:~$ dmesg | grep NetworkManager
[ 17.199512] type=1505 audit(1251340566.488:5): operation="profile_load"
name="/usr/lib/NetworkManager/nm-dhcp-client.action" name2="default" pid=2168

error 4 in NetworkManager[8048000+67000]
er...@ubuntu:~$

My ubuntu version is:

er...@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 9.04
Release:9.04
er...@ubuntu:~$

I installed the latest updates, but the problem is constantly repeated.
Reading in the web http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1184623

I guess the problem is something with the EVDO mode... but my cellphone
do not have the option to switch to "EVDO only mode"... I have noticed
too that when I am in the city where i study this problem is less
constantly, but when i am in the city where i live the problem is very
constantly. The first city is smaller than the second and it makes me
think that the problem is really related with the signal mode (maybe the
evdo mode is more stable in the places where less people are connected).

sorry for my english, i'm working on it.

[Bug 410548] Re: when i boot in to win me It thinks I have a virus in mbr

2009-08-26 Thread Dave Stroud
That is what I was doing up until tonight. The last update wiped it out
and now I am back to a useless windows. The only reason I am using it it
because I have to run my printer on it, because its not supported on
ubuntu. I am sorry but the developers do need to pay attention to
this.Thats what has made ubuntu good up until now.Grub legacy did not do
that why should grub2 do it?This is testing and I am pointing out a bug
in grub2 I just expect that ubuntu shold follow up on this.
