[Bug 419728] [NEW] Huge HighContrastInverse icons cluttering windows and menus
Public bug reported: Hi, In ubuntu 9.04, the HighContrastInverse set of icons from gnome-themes- extras are very huge; they completely clutter the windows icons, menus, and the main panel. What makes things more unfortunate is that not all the set of the inverse icons are that huge, some of them are displayed properly. This makes an environment of a mix of huge and *relatively* small set of icons, which isn't approachable. Please check the screenshots. This one is using ubuntu 9.04 defaults + gnome-themes-extras using the High Contrast Inverse icon set. Please note the huge volume and logout icons in the bottom panel, the huge trash icon in the file menu, and the unreasonlbly huge icons in Nautilus toolbar. This behavior is also existent in some of the dialog buttons which uses one of the mis-rendered icons. [Bug 359868] Re: [Acer, inc. Aspire 4530] suspend/resume failure [non-free: nvidia]
I don't know how applicable this piece of advice is to this issue, because I am using Fedora 11 with the 2.6.29.6-217.2.16.fc11.x86_64 kernel (i.e. on a 64-bit install). In any case, I was trying to solve the occasional flickering that I was noticing and came across this site: http://www.ubuntusolutions.org/2009/02/screen-flickering-with-nvidia-on-ubuntu.html Specifically, the advice that proved useful was to add the following lines to /etc/modprobe.d/options (actually, any file in the /etc/modprobe.d/ directory; e.g. I used /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia): options nvidia NVreg_RegistryDwords='PerfLevelSrc=0x' options nvidia NVreg_Mobile=1 Apparently, the equivalents of these registry values from the Windows driver are not enabled by default in Fedora (and I suppose not in Ubuntu, either, because I have never been able to resume successfully from suspend in Ubuntu or Fedora until now). Perhaps pci=nomsi is also needed, although I haven't checked if that option is needed. For me, when both the modprobe lines and the kernel option are active, I can suspend and resume using the nvidia driver successfully, and access my disks as well, which I couldn't do before, even with the pci=nomsi kernel option. I'm just posting this here because it might help some of the reporters of this bug. I will do more experiments later. -- [Acer, inc. [Bug 355508] Re: [i945gm] Kubuntu: corrupt login screen and X freeze on startup when using desktop effects (UXA bug)
"screen/cursor freeze every few seconds" - that symptom is a performance lag which is different from the original bug report's "X freeze", in which the system just locked up but the mouse cursor moved. Hi! For all that are interested, here is a status update: fteqcc was taken over by the Debian/Ubuntu Games Team and the required svn snapshot was pulled and uploaded to the pool. The package is currently available through Debian testing (squeeze) and unstable (sid) and also was already synced into Ubuntu karmic (at least the source is there already, the binaries still seem to be at version 3343-2). [Bug 419715] [NEW] blurry characters, not with xpdf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Good morning, It is the first time I submit a bug report, or ever have the feeling that I am "speaking to the Ubuntu community", so first of all, thank you all for your work ! I have been using Ubuntu for quite some time now, and have a lot of pleasure in doing so. So the problem is that for some pdf's, the rendering of Evince is poor. Characters appear blurry at all scales, and such a thing does not happen when viewed with xpdf. Attached is a screenshot of the views given by evince and xpdf of the following pdf : http://www.projecteuclid.org/DPubS/Repository/1.0/Disseminate?handle=euclid.aoms/1177700291&view=body&content-type=pdf_1 (see the link "PDF file" at the bottom of the page). I have a fresh install of Jaunty (9.04) on an HP Pavilion laptop. I have already experienced this problem on an earlier version of Ubuntu, and on a Dell Inspiron laptop. My current version of Evince is 2.26.1, with poppler 0.10.5 (cairo). Most documents work just fine, but this problem is not unique to the pdf I mention here. Looking for some earlier reference about this problem, I found this one : https://bugs.launchpad.net/evince/+bug/20310 The guy emphasizes that Evince is slow. I also had the feeling that when characters were blurry, Evince was notably slowier than usually, or as compared to xpdf on the same document (non blurry, fast). Ok, I think I gave you all the information I had ! Thanks again. Tried with linux-image-2.6.31-020631rc7-generic_2.6.31-020631rc7_amd64 on my Karmic/64 partition which also has the problem as well as Jaunty. Even if X is running and I'm logged in, and I switch to VT it will not do it in the VT. Forcing a high load with dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/null twice for both cores makes no difference in X or console. [Bug 412598] Re: Xsplash only uses the default wallpaper during transition to desktop.
Cody , from what i understood , Mat is designing the Boot experience to use a *Single Background* for boot , gdm While the boot uses the overlay of the throbber , the gdm will use the overlay of the user list. So that background image is better to use than the default wallpaper for all these three: -xsplash -/etc/gdm/Init/Default (before gdm greeter shows) -/etc/gdm/PreSession/Default (after gdm greeter, going into user session) Using the same background for all the transitions would be better. so that the user just sees only 2 backgrounds 1 background during boot and then second after login. When i started this bug , I was under the impression that it was supposed to use the users wallpaper and my suggestion in the description[to use the user defined wallpaper] was since i thought the setting wasnt yet done. Re: [Bug 309280] Re: GIMP opens new documents behind other windows
I just tested it in Jaunty and I'm still experiencing the same exact behavior with new windows opening behind previously opened windows when opened from the Open dialog; I never had a problem with opening recent documents, just when using the open dialog or from Nautilus, though the Nautilus issue appears to have been fixed (tested that just now and the new window opened on top, as it should have). Re: [Bug 419702] [NEW] Update to 0.16
Now that we are passed feature freeze, a feature freeze exception will be needed to allow this into Ubuntu. Since there are not many changes, I think that it is better that we pull any important fixes from libcanberra git and apply them to the current package. Also note that the new upstrea version introduces a new API function and symbol, which is probably not a good idea at this point in the development cycle. [Bug 419708] [NEW] rdesktop connections reset - win2003 server
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rdesktop I have no trouble connecting to RDP from my 9.04 box to Windows Server 2008 and Windows 2000 Server but connections to Windows 2003 servers typically don't work. The symptoms are as follows: Once in a while I get a very slow loading session where the login prompt never finally gets rendered on the screen and then the client disconnects with an error of "connection reset by peer". When I do get connected, most of the time I see the desktop but after a few clicks, especially when opening new windows or scrolling, the connection pauses (I've seen this using eyeballs and tcpdump) and finally I get the same "connection reset by peer" message. I never have this issue when using a WIndows XP client to RDP into a Windows Server. I never get this from my Ubuntu 9.04 client when connecting to a Windows Server 2008 host. These results are consistent no matter what subnet I'm on. This has only happened after upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04. I've tried tsclient, grdesktop and Gnome-RDP and all exhibit the same behavior. ** Affects: rdesktop (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- rdesktop connections reset - win2003 server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419708 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 289258] Re: certain updates ( to kernel?) might make suspend to disk not work -- make unavailable or fix--resume didn't occur
it appears that the update to kernel should occur only on a clean start up specifically for the update of the kernel... then another reboot to continue on. A kernel update should give warning that the system needs to be restarted, and NOT apply the patches that break suspend/hibernate to disk until the user has indicated that the system can go down. If the user says dont restart the computer, it is implied that the customer might want the stuff written to disk. I dont know if I can get the conditions to reproduce again and a new kernel might work with an old ones info, and then again another might not... This is when CHANGING between two kernels. I dont see how a specific kernel could have a problem, or be expected to be future compatible with every little thing that could ever possibly go wrong. I was basically hypothesising that the kernel was switched out from under the hibernation image, or the format of the image changed between kernels.
