[Bug 311869] Re: Add driver for Sentelic Touch pad

2010-06-03 Thread Steven Liauw
@ Hans,

I found out I had sentelic by using the "xinput list" command I found at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SynapticsTouchpad
It says that I have a FSPPS /2 Sentelic FingerSensingPad with id=12 (slave
pointer 2)

Above that, it says: Virtual Core Pointer id=2 (master pointer 3)
also: Virtual Core XTEST pointer id=4 (slave pointer 2)

I'm not sure what those means, or if that's meaningful info..

Below that it lists my usb-mouse

The Live-usb is new, no updates. In fact, I've made new live-usbs
several times: the Netbook edition, Linux Mint 9, and then the Lucid
i386 once again. The same problem exists. In fact, if anything, it's
getting worse nowEven my usb-mouse is malfunctioning right
now...it's left clicking persistently...I'm reporting all this from
another computer, because the netbook is a pain to work with right
now...

I appreciate all that you have done to help. The netbook is not
mine...My friend will need it soon...if nothing turns up, I'll have to
try a Windows 7 install. She was actually happy with Ubuntu too before
this incident, because her previous Xp was virus ridden.

[Bug 589377] Re: when changing the background colors of the theme Ambiance, the window buttons change side (into the right) automatically

2010-06-03 Thread David Ly-Gagnon
Thank you BG for reporting this bug.
I have been trying to reproduce your bug, but I am missing some information.
Could you precisely list down the steps you did to reproduce the bug?
This is what I did to try to reproduce your bug:

1. In the Control Panel, click on System->Preferences->Apperance (it opens
Apperance Preference window).
2. From the Theme tab, select Ambiance
3. At the bottom, click on Customize (it opens Customize Theme window)
4. From the Colours tab, click on the colour button of Windows and Background
and set the color name to something very dark: #231D11.
5. Select OK to apply the new colour.
6. Open firefox.

Expected value: the windows minimize, maximize and close button should
be on the left.

This is what I get so far. Please provide more details so that I can
reproduce the bug.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 532984 ***

I updated Ubuntu today and I got the same problem here after updating
Lucid AMD64:

GLIB WARNING ** GLib - getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)

Thus I cannot start Ubuntu and I cannot work then.

Any fix for this huge bug?

Thanks very much.

[Bug 589163] Re: Cannot start kvm guest

2010-06-03 Thread Kees Cook
As presently understood, CVE-2010-0419 is relatively minor (guest crash
from a privileged guest process -- not really a privilege escalation).
As it is re-triaged, a better fix will be developed, tested, and
published.

[Bug 589547] [NEW] Screen jumps to maximum brightness on Asus K52F

2010-06-03 Thread Gerhard Kremer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

Whenever I dim the screen of my Asus K52F laptop, it stays at my desired
level for just a few minutes, then jumps at the maximum value and stays
there.

I am using Ubuntu Lucid with both the stock kernel (2.6.32-22) and the
latest from the Ubuntu Kernel PPA (2.6.34-rc7). The problem is present
with both.

Required system info for ACPI debugging follows.

[Bug 589548] [NEW] Ubuntu Lucid Spontaneously Freezes or Logs out

2010-06-03 Thread Dave M G
Public bug reported:

First, I am not sure if Gnome is really the problem. However, because Ubuntu's
byzantine bug reporting system does not give one the option of reporting a bug
without first declaring which package is at fault, I had to pick at something.
I chose Gnome because it was the most general package I could think of.

The problem is that Ubuntu/Gnome routintely and spontaneously freezes or
logs me out. The frequency is something around once per hour, or once
per two hours. It seems to be more frequent on battery power, but there
is a certain amount of randomness to the time between the problem
occuring, so it is hard to be sure.

When spontaneously logging me out, the screen will suddenly go black,
and then return to the log in screen after about 30 seconds to a minute.

When freezing, the mouse will still be able to move, but I can not get
any response by clicking on anything on screen. Trying to shut down X by
pressing [ctrl]+[alt]+[backspace] also does not work. When the laptop
freezes this way, the only way to get back to operation is to force a
shut down by holding the power switch on the laptop.

I have not been able to deduce any cause. For example, the last three times it
crashed, this is what I was doing:
* Moving an event in Google Calendar within FireFox.
* Opening Gedit
* Midway through a system update using the Update Manager

I can not see a commonality in the actions before the problem occurs, so
I assume it is something general about graphics or system operation that
is always in effect, and that the problem is essentially random.

I have a Panasonic CF-Y2 "Let's Note" laptop computer.

The video chipset is known to be problematic:
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics
Device

However, I do not get the black screen on boot that others report, so I
can not be sure that this is the source of the problem.

In any case, with regards to my video settings, I do not have an
/etc/X11/xorg.conf file, and I use the intel driver at
http://ppa.launchpad.net/glasen/intel-driver/ubuntu

I looked in /ver/log to see which files had been updated prior to the
last crash, and I didn't see much, but I thought these might be
relevant.

[Bug 581032] Re: mouse cursor gets trapped in a Motif drawing area when creating a popup menu

2010-06-03 Thread Monker1980
OK - so I had already followed the steps suggested by Hein Zelle here
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-180/+bug/553415), which initially didn't appear to work. But the
crucial bit, as Jerry said, was to reboot the machine. On turning on my
PC this morning the motif problem is fixed. So I didn't need to use
Jerry's reposted patch in the end.

[Bug 569900] Re: mount: mounting /dev/md0 on /root/ failed: Invalid argument

2010-06-03 Thread Lars Steinke
While I encountered a similar problem when upgrading from 8.04 LTS, my
observations might possibly prove helpful for fresh installs as well:
- 10.04 dropped me to the initramfs shell with: "ALERT!! /dev/md0 does not
exist. Dropping to a shell!"
- I was then able to continue booting after issuing "mdadm --auto-detect; exit"
- A subsequent "grub-install /dev/md0" fixed the initramsfs problem with
/dev/md0 for me.
Please note this is still grub 0.97, as that doesn't seem to be upgraded
automatically...

[Bug 584183] Re: Evolution crashes almost randomly

2010-06-03 Thread ubuntolo
Hi gabak, forgive me, but I'm not sure that it's a size related bug. With my
Evolution archive, approximately 400 MB of e-mails, the bug still happens, so I
think that the size is not important at all.
Forgive me, but still I have no time to produce the backtrace, I hope that you
can use the one produced by Rick in the meanwhile.

Thanks to You all.

Re: [Bug 587988] Re: openoffice messes up excel 2003 conditional formatting

2010-06-03 Thread Davy Vereycken
Hi Chris,

I've attached a couple of documents to the launchpad bug and to this
email:

"usg2010 before save.xls" : original excel before being touched by
openoffice

"usg2010 after save.xls" : excel after being touched by openoffice

"usg2010 after save screenshot.jpg" : screenshot displaying result after
save

"usg2010 before save screenshot formatting.jpg": shows original conditional
formatting formula in ms excel before being touched by openoffice

"usg2010 after save screenshot formatting.jpg" : shows changed conditional
formatting formula in ms excel after document was saved in openoffice

The issue is only visible when viewing in ms excel. Not in open office.

[Bug 589099] Re: does not work on amd64 without -no-kvm

2010-06-03 Thread Takeshi Sone
This problem affects our 32-bit systems as well.

t...@kvm2:~$ uname -a
Linux kvm2 2.6.32-22-generic-pae #35-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jun 1 15:47:31 UTC 2010
i686 GNU/Linux

Our KVM host machines were running fine with previous kernel, but gives blank
screen (via vnc) on guest boot.
With -no-kvm it starts loading kernel but i haven't checked if it fully boots
(it's painfully slow.)

Also interesting is migration (from a host with old kernel to one with
new kernel) works fine.

[Bug 589543] [NEW] Cacti php errors after upgrade from Hardy to Lucid

2010-06-03 Thread Sean
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: cacti

I had a hardy/804 cacti running and just upgraded to Lucid, which
upgraded PHP 5.3.2 and Cacti to 0.8.7e.

dpkg -l |grep cacti
ii cacti 0.8.7e-2
Frontend to rrdtool for monitoring systems and servic
ii cacti-spine 0.8.7e-2build1
Multi-Threading poller for cacti

When visiting the cacti url after the lucid upgrade, the GUI propose a
DB upgrade which went well.

However, on the GUI there are messages such as:
Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_validate.php on line 38
Deprecated: Function split() is deprecated in
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/functions.php on line 1741
Console

Sprinkled everywhere.

No graphs are visible, all that is shown is:
Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_validate.php on line 38
Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_validate.php on line 38
Deprecated: Function ereg() is deprecated in
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_validate.php on line 38
Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output
started at /usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_validate.php:38) in
/usr/share/cacti/site/graph_view.php on line 78

Now, the errors are in part due to php warnings, but I don't think thats
all.

I understood to ignore the deprecated PHP warnings one should add to
/etc/php5/apache2/php.ini
error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED

or to /usr/share/cacti/site/include/config.php
error_reporting(~E_DEPRECATED);

I tried both and restarted Apache, but it stubbornly continues to show
them.

The error "Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already
sent by (output started at
/usr/share/cacti/site/lib/html_validate.php:38) in
/usr/share/cacti/site/graph_view.php on line 78" refers to source lines
that refernce regular expression, thus related to the new PHP too.

I don't suppose a patch for 0.8.7f could be rolled out for Lucid?
Apparently that release supports the new PHP?

Thanks in advance,

Sean

[Bug 415217] Re: bash history without duplicates

2010-06-03 Thread dino99
hi devs,

good to know that you are working on that request; i agree that bug
#189881 is a better request than this one, even if some details are
different, the spirit is the same: instead of a full history where each
command is logged everytime, for the ease of users to recall past
commands: dont make duplicates, and if possible sort them by
frequencies: the most used on top of history.

[Bug 548415] Re: Shutdown timer no longer appears

2010-06-03 Thread MarcNagels
I agree with Hellion and lavinog. I actually found the timer thoughtful
design. It was one the features that I liked the most since switching
from windows. It would be great if users could themselves decide whether
to countdown or not.

Please leave us the option to tweak this feature.

I don't think we ask for a 'fully modal OS'. The shutdown dialog has a
particular status as it defines the future of the system as a whole and
should not be generalized. Having a different recognizable dialog makes
thus sense (for me)... with a countdown. :)

[Bug 589541] [NEW] MSN seemingly silently dump messages

2010-06-03 Thread Eax
Public bug reported:

3) What I expected to happen:
I expected the message I had just sent to be delivered to my chat-partner.

This seems to happen after I have left empathy running for some time

See Bug #581291.

To get entries in /var/log/boot.lob I've been running with

init='/sbin/init --verbose'

added to the linux /boot/vmlinuz/... line in /boot/grub/grub.cfg .
Modifying /etc/default/grub is one way to do that.

[Bug 311869] Re: Add driver for Sentelic Touch pad

2010-06-03 Thread hansvschoot
hi steven,

the problem also existing on the live-usb is a bit strange, did you
allow the live-usb drive to update? (a live-usb is not read-only like a
CD, in fact it's more like a normal installation on an external drive.
changes made to it during a session stay after reboot.)

i think you should try to make a new live-usb and see if the touchpad is
working fine from there (and how the serio1 and 0 folders look). also
try if you can use the scroll function (hold your finger in the upper-
and lower-right corner), it should be enabled by default in lucid.

to me your story sounds like the touchpad was recognized and working
with a clean install/live-usb, and broke down after updates (or changes
to your configuration).

one last question: how did you find out that you're "blessed" with a
sentelic touchpad?

kernelmode=1 the module

[Bug 425391] Re: Deprecation warnings from tumgreyspf cleanup cron job

2010-06-03 Thread Thomas Goirand
Hi,

I hope to be soon an official Debian Developer, and be able to upload
fixes. Until then, you can find an update of my package in here:

http://ftparchive.gplhost.com/debian/pool/lenny/main/t/tumgreyspf/
http://ftparchive.gplhost.com/debian/pool/lenny/main/t/tumgreyspf/tumgreyspf_1.35-3.dsc

This package removes the usage of the original tumgreyspf cleanup
script, and instead, uses an sh script that I wrote myself, and that I
believe is faster than the python code.

Please use that package in Ubuntu to solve the above issue, until you
can use the version that I will upload in SID.

Regards,

Thomas

i was also considering to mark this bug as duplicate of bug #189881 but

bug #189881 is about the request that HISTCONTROL=erasedups should also

this bug is about a request to have HISTCONTROL=erasedups as default in
.bashrc (/etc/skel/.bashrc)

ignoreboth means ignorespace and ignoredups. erasedups is yet another

2010-06-03 Thread Marc
So. actually:

when the package "tuxonice-userui" is installed the following failure
will prevent the standard-lucid-kernel going into S2RAM:

#/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99tuxoniceui suspend
suspend:/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/99tuxoniceui: 10: cannot create
/sys/power/tuxonice/user_interface/enable_escape: Directory nonexistent
#Returned exit code 2.
#Fri Jun 4 07:30:47 CEST 2010: Inhibit found, will not perform suspend
#Fri Jun 4 07:30:47 CEST 2010: Running hooks for resume

---

when the package is removed it is functional:

#Fri Jun 4 07:33:38 CEST 2010: performing suspend
#Fri Jun 4 07:33:48 CEST 2010: Awake.

[Bug 589538] [NEW] package linux-image-2.6.31-22-generic 2.6.31-22.60 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2010-06-03 Thread Garry Leach
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub

1. Mythbuntu 9.10
2. Grub1
I just updated to 2.6.31-22.
3. Whenever the kernel is upgraded, the system applies the wrong hard drive
code to /boot/grub/menu.lst, so I usually tell it to keep the installed version.
I then "usually" edit menu.lst to add in the new kernel.

4. However, this time I forgot, so it produced the error report, which
triggered the bug report

Regards, Garry.

2010-06-03 Thread Rolf Leggewie
FWIW, I don't really consider this bug fixed. The question is where the
bug is, whether it's wishlist, regression or whatnot. I currently don't
see a way to avoid

$ history | cut -b 8-|sort|uniq -c|sort -n|tail -n 3

As long as that is the case, something is not right IMO. I was just
about to open a separate ticket for that (because arguably, this
particular issue is indeed fixed, albeit it doesn't really help much).
That's when I stumbled across bug 189881.
